  1. I have mounted several DW overlays, and the best adhesive I have found is simply Prit Stick. I apply small amounts onto the original DW using the tip of a watchmaker's screwdriver. This method allows several attempts at re-alignment before setting, and also allows you to remove the overlay easily if you want to tinker about some more a few weeks later.
  2. Thanks for the positive comments, guys! Once I relume the hands to match the dial colour, I think it will improve some more.
  3. After several attempts at this, I have finally finished my Tudor Sub project. I have 'created' a dial using my water slide decal technique, which if you haven't seen you can read up on by clicking the link in my sig. I ran up two of these, Teejay has the other. I wanted to change a sub that I bought from Trusty some time ago, into something a little more wearable. It is a fairly good model, with an ETA heart. OK the rehaut isn't so good, neither are the CG's but it was worth 'customising'. I very rarely wore this in its Rolex guise, but now cannot keep it off my wrist. This is based around a Tudor 79190 sub, which I think is very pleasing to the eye. OK the case should have lug holes, but hey, one day! I lumed the dial using a mix of Revell Night Color, and white acrylic paint. I need to lume the hands now, as they are too much of a different colour from the dial lume. I have also fitted this with one of my silver flat top three datewheels, again made from a decal printed on a laserjet. Although not accurate for this Tudor model, it adds a certain something to the look of the model, which I think is very pleasing. Cannot seem to photograph this though, too much reflection! All in all I am very pleased with the outcome. What do ya' reckon?
  4. Superb effect. Did you lume it yourself? If so, what did you use, and how did you get such an even finish?
  5. Cheers mate! Great lume shots. Makes me want to get the Seikos out for an airing!
  6. A superb looking DJ. I have to admit that I am not a DJ fan, but that dial is superb. You may have hooked me with this!
  7. Firstly, I would not wear a bow tie with anything other than a dinner jacket. Wearing a bow tie with a lounge suit (charcole or not) is just going to make you look like a lefty Architect. Also, don't bother buying a wing collar. Think about it; lounge suit, bow tie, wing collar. Too many missmatched themes going on here. It will just make you look like a Second Division footballer. Simply put, wear a bow tie with a DJ, not a lounge suit. So wear your suit and splash out on a silk tie (not a bow tie) and be proud of it.
  8. I never tire of looking at gioarmani's sig and avatar! Phew! But seriously great photo BT. I have a similar fondness for this particular model myself. It was my first rep purchase from Josh some 31/2 years ago. Still going strong too!
  9. Thanks tomhorn! Spot on. It works a treat!
  10. Ouch! An expensive way to learn! Now that I can believe. From my own small efforts I can definitely empathise.
  11. Thanks, Nanuq. That's ok for a link, but I need to use my sig images as a link, rather than linking from inserted text.
  12. Simple realy (but only for those who know). I want to link the pics in my sig to the posts here on RWG that describe their builds. You know, when the mouse rolls over the pic, you can click on it as if it were a link. HEEEEELLLPPPPP!
  13. Zm... I have never used SL to lume a dial, only the cheaper alternatives (and then only for fun). I am interested in how long the SL compound remains workable. Do you have to mix a batch and then complete the dial in one sitting to maintain continuity of colour and texture? Or do you do one or two indices at a time? If you could 'throw some light'.....
  14. Superb model. The best in my opinion. I love the itallic dial version, it is simply a classic. Very, very good choice. I'll join the club one day, I have promised myself.
  15. Love the possibilities that the combinations give to create a unique piece. Problem is when you start adding dial, hands, chapter ring, bezel insert..... you could buy another SKX diver with the money. I have resisted the tempation of converting my SKX009.....but for how long? I neeeeeeeed to do this soooo bad! Come on guys, show me more pics!
  16. Not a spirits man myself. Still it's Friday night, so that means a curry and half a dozen or so of these little beauties
  17. Excellent job TeeJay. Don't think you're going to get any beter than that without some sort of magnification. I started luming by eye, and when I bought a loupe I couldn't quite believe what a difference it made. I would take Toadt up on his generous offer and have a go. I also have a 10x hand held that you could have. PM me if you need it.
  18. Superb job Red! You have a convincing franken there for sure. Can't wait for the full write up.
  19. Great review TeeJay! Glad you liked the dial. It (the dial) turned out reasonably well IMHO. It didn't quite go to plan for me, though. I cased up my dial yesterday, and promptly ripped the decal when fitting the hour hand. You must have a lighter touch than me! My replacement datewheel didn't turn out well either. I got the number progression wrong in the graphic! Have a laugh here I think your "Tokyo case" project has turned out superbly! I must admit to being a bit jeaous at this point in time. Slarti
  20. Superb. I can't imagine tooling a watch stem. Such intricate work. That PVD seems to have an almost gunmetal colour to it. Great work.
  21. I love these modded Seikos. The number of different combinations of dials and hands you can choose from, almost guarantees a unique watch. Good choice!
  22. Hey, hey, hey..freddy. Why didn't I think of that! I'll post pics when done. Could mean the difference between a good try, and a good job! Thanks!
