  1. REUTERS 20:45 Oct 13 2008

Tattooed lunatic sought by Police following shirt-lifting incident.

UK Police have announced a massive manhunt for known lunatic shirtlifter known simply as "Oscar the mad fish" following a shocking incident involving a sheep, three jars of low-fat mayonnaise and a rubber chicken.

Suspect is a congenital liar and is believed to have attempted to blame the incident on a completely innocent individual known to be of unimpeachable character.

The man can be identified by his extremely small winkie, but should not be approached as he is known to be completely barmy.

  2. same - I like seeing the workings of the movement and that 44mm is a good find greg - thanks

    smooth crown?

Yes, I can see that being tough to wind..... lol

i think if you have a skel watch it needs to be as big as poss

the whole point of them is to see the movement

i am not that struck on the de witt but i think it would look better in reality

so greg needs to buy it and post pics [censored]er has not bought a watch for days skinflint bastard :p

    bugger off, Oscar.... :p

  3. Atta the one!

    Col.

Edit: It's growing on me. What's the gen worth? Just so I know how many zeros I can't afford it by.

Actually, that's pretty cool - I remember it from the thread on RWG1 now. Not sure I'd wear something like that myself, but it's definitely handsome. The Zenith, on the other hand, has been beaten repeatedly with the mother of all ugly sticks. :p

  4. Honestly- I don't understand skeletonemania.

    Maybe I'll grow up...and then...

    To each his own :)

It's the same reason why display casebacks are so popular (and, I suspect, why tourbillons are considered so special - they're fascinating to see when working). Watch movements are beautiful things, even more so when you can see them working. To be honest, my main interest in watches comes from seeing my grandfather work on watch and clock movements when I was a kid (it was a hobby of his), and I will often look through the display back of my VC, Breguet or, especially, my PAM111 just for the pleasure of seeing the movement running. I've wanted a skeleton watch for almost as long as I can remember - just never got around to buying one before.

There's a long tradition of displaying watch movements for the sheer pleasure of looking at them. Pocket watches - from the early days - have traditionally had an opening back, to allow the user to enjoy the intricacy of the movement (and show his friends, I guess!). The only disadvantage with those was that the movement was not then protected with a crystal, so it was easy to damage the watch. With a skeleton watch, you have the advantage of not having to take the watch off or open it to see the movement working.

  5. as a side note, the 21J is not an actual movement but a general term given to all kinds of cheap asian movements - gregs VC in his avatar is a 21J and has a good load of retrograding complications - I use to think 21J's were non complicated movements as pugwash indicated - the term is being loosely used by dealers. Some 21Js will have better reliability than others

It would be nice if the industry would start naming the exact movement used such as a DG2813 or DG4813 (which are actually 22 jewel) or more elaborate movements such as DG3884B with a power reserve meter or an ML7101 with fake tourbillion

Yep - we get so used to referring to them generically, it's easy to forget that there are several '21j' movements, many of which do not have 21 jewels.

It has to be said, though, that all the versions I've come across so far have been good, solid reliable movements. Not tried the power reserve (yet) or fake tourby (never!) movements, though :)

  6. I like their description:

TAG Heuer Men's Carrera Automatic Chronograph Watch #CV2015.BA0786 Details:Watches-Price Sales Rank: #17273 in Watches Brand: TAG Heuer Model: CV2015.BA0786 Dimensions: 3.00 pounds Band material: stainless-steel Bezel material: stainless-steel Case material: stainless-steel Clasp type: push-button-fold-over-clasp Dial color: blue Dial window material: scratch-resistant-sapphire Movement type: Automatic Water-resistant to 165 feet

    3 pounds???

    I've heard of big watches, but that's ridiculous. :D :D :D

  7. My two cents:

This PAM has 21j, and works perfectly. Just 2 days ago I gently shaked for 1 minute my A7750 Chopard MM, in one hand, and my new Yaht-Master with 21j in another hand. A7750 worked 25 hours, but YM still beating. OK? Now, tell me that 21j is sheeeet.

I think you've misunderstood the argument. I never said the 21J is sh*t - quite the contrary, the 21J is a damn good movement for very little money - I own quite a number of them and am more than happy with them. My point was that a 21J will not power a functioning chrono (any more than an ETA 28xx would), so if you want a cheap chrono watch, quartz is the movement that makes most sense. :)

My comments about the PAM you posted weren't related to the movement at all - I've no problem with a 21J-powered cheapie PAM if it actually looks decent. Unfortunately, I've yet to see one that does...
