Would Like Your Opinion On This Rep Daytona?
jfreeman420 replied to tonymofo's topic in The Rolex Area
Ditto............ Seeing you have 3 posts I will assume you are serious and give you some constructive critisism. First, I hope you son't plan on buying that watch. Aside from being but ugly, or Fugly as the board seems to prefer, Rolex never made anything close to that. Use the search function to find some decent looking Daytonas. -

Yes that bezel looks really good. Probably the best innovation Rolex has had in 50 years. -
Wow, great to see a newb that already has 2 of the best subs. Bravo and welcome aboard. Good luck with the new hobby. I thought the same thing a while ago and ended up with a bunch of tools and some broken watches. I still have aspirations however........

I agree with the soft surface, but vinyl tears easy. One slip of the screwdriver and its recover time. I got this cloth with a tool kit that I use on the table when working on watches. It's like a really thick lint free felt or synthetic chamois. Very effective and the parts stay put. No slippage. Most of the benches I have seen have been tall and the watchmaker sits on a stool with height adjustment and swivel. Lights and one of thos big face sized magnifying glasses all on bendable goose necks is a must. Rails all around as well. I would add little compartments for parts accross the top and a series of them on the right. The ultimate would be to add a hutch to the back and build like 100 tiny drawers for parts and some others for tools all with plexiglass fronts. An adjustable swing arm platform for a laptop would come in handy for how to's and with a TV tuner you would never miss a game. A side compartment for a mini fridge and a deep cup holder on the outer edge for the beer. Remember watchwork takes hours at a time so don't forget the ammeneties. Wow you inspire me. We could sell these for $2K a piece. Maybe throw a couple winders into the hutch............. The possibilites are endless. And as your sig says

The Noobs Are Happy...and We Are At War!

No, gen daytonas do not have AR coating. Rolex probably thinks it takes away from the dial and most of their watches are for diving so no reflection down below. I think it would make sense for the daytona, but then again it may distort those beautigul dials. The fact about the bracelet is that they are still using 80 year old springbar "technology" to attach their bracelets to the case. You would think that all the money spent on research and waterproofing they could find a way to attach the bracelet to the case of a $20,000 watch that was better than two little pins hanging on for dear life in a crevace less than 1mm deep. The old cases with the holes were better IMO, at least the pins went all the way through. -
Since the original post I have purchased a SS "perfect" (yeah right) yacht and would be interested in one as well. It's been a long time I forgot about this. Soemthing else to wait for now. Great!!!

@By-Tor: We should have the complete set of those charts pinned somwhere like in the repair section. Very helpful. I know the full gold Rolexes are way heavier than the SS counterparts, but is there much of a weight difference in the two tone versions? @J-Auz I have had many versions of subs reps and genuines. They are all light compared to other watches. It used to be that you could tell a fake just by holding it. The old ones were ridiculously light. I have had a genuine sub and daytona accused of being fake due to the weight. My buddy has a genuine Rip Curl that is heavier than the sub. The gold versions however are a different story. Way lighter than the gens.

Very nice watch. Is the dial print on these supposed to be gold? I have only seen the gold print on the green dial so I was wondering. -
Very nice. Worthy of an induction to Bling City!!!

Whats The Best Way To Re-position Dial Feet?
jfreeman420 replied to slay's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Yeah kind of like using a hockey puck and a vise as a crystal press............Remember that post? I have no experience with this but have a theory and am planning for an upcomng project. I think I have it. First you need a template. Trace the outside of the dial onto a piece of paper. Mark the 12 oclock postion onto the template and make a hole for the cannon. With an awl or fat pin poke through the template over the movement through to the holes where the feet should sit. make sure the original feet from the dial are sanded completely flat with a dremel or the dial will stick up too far. The copper feet gattenda suggested are probably your best bet but may require some sanding for proper depth. Since the feet have a base to adhere them a slight recess in the back of the dial may be needed, but the base of the feet is pretty thin. Here is the key..........Don't use superglue. Superglue is brittle and may not adhere to metal very well. Use copper bond or permabond as these are made to glue metal to metal. I hope this helps and am curious to see how it comes out before I try mine. -
There is a nice Mark XV but no XI.

The Noobs Are Happy...and We Are At War!
jfreeman420 replied to elprimerozen's topic in General Discussion
Noobs that are unhappy (or vets for that matter) with their watches are just lying to themselves when they order a $300 watch and expect the quality of a $10,000 watch. I don't buy watches to fool myself (or others) into thinking I am better off than I really am. I buy watches because I enjoy the hobby and it gives me lots to talk about with wonderful people on these boards. I look at replicas this way. I buy a nice watch for around $300 because I like it, regardless of what it says on the dial, although the name does help. It is fun to see how close they can get the fine details. I usually don't expect much so I am happier when the watch arrives most of the time. I have had a few purchases that fell below my expectations but I take the good with the bad. I have had a few die in a week or two and I take it as a loss. No bitching or complaining from me. I take the little white lies with a grain of salt, it's marketing. How much advertising is 100% truthful? I guess it is in my nature to trust noone so again I am rarely let down. All in all I am very happy to have this and other forums and be able to collect great watches without spending tons of money. If you add up my current collection I probably have somewhere in the neighborhood of $250,000 in watches all for about $5,000. So YES I am very happy. The only negative thought I have in my mind right now is why do they have to come out with so many great watches all at once? How am I going to pay for the 10 other watches that are on my list today that I wanted yesterday? -

I don't like co-branded watches. I think it takes away from the watch. I never liked the classic Comex Rolex and I am a die hard rolex fan!!! Co-branding watches is like mixing a great merlot with a decent pinot. All you get is a funky colored drink that tastes like [censored]. -
Can You Spot Your Most Recent Order In This Lot?
jfreeman420 replied to jonthebhoy's topic in General Discussion
They used to do this on 5th ave. in NYC right in front of Cartier. New Yorkers use a steam roller. They know how to have fun!!! -
Zenith and JLC are not very popular brands so the manufacture of good replicas is not profitable. You will find several good reverso's and master compressors, but aside from that good luck. As for Zenith, the biggest reason someone buys a Zenith is fro the movement. Most of the Zenith movements are impossible to replicate, thus you have substandard replicas. BTW, elprimerozen That is a nice reverso but this one is better:
-
The reference number is probably only the model number. If you know what model the watch is a replica of the ref. number shouldn't be a problem. If no, look in the dealer section, I think there is someone who makes custom straps.

Why don't you just hold down shift when you type II?

I had a gen connie full bar a while ago. you can pick them up on the bay for about $900. Yes the double eagle is a much nicer rep. Gets lots of wrist time.

Very nice looking watch. This looks very classy in rose gold.

Do you think that the cape cod is enough to bring the brushed sides of a TT sub bracelet to the mirror finish they are supposed to be? I am attempting a project to bring one of the new TT subs as close as posible and the sides of the bracelet are brushed (one of my biggest complaints). I want to place an order, but I wonder if I should get the rouge in addition to the cape cod.
-
I'm trying to polish the sides of a sub bracelet and I hear you need jewelers rouge. I have a dremel and am looking for the right compound to use. i see there are several different colors. Which is the best color of jewelers rouge to polish steel to a mirror finish? Also does anyone know if a cape cod cloth will remove gold plating? Any suggetions on where to order the jewelers rouge and cape cod cloths?

The reason I like AVG so much is: 1. It uses a lot less resources than others 2. norton and macafee can never seem to delete the viruses completely. Nothing is perfect.
-
I use AVG antivirus and IMO it is better than macafee or norton and is freeware!!! Get it here: AVG This will find all the trojans and delete them. Careful though, some trojans latch onto programs like IE and once you remove them the program is no longer usable. My boss had 72 trojans and his computer wouldn't start. Finally got into windows, removed trojans and nothing worked. had to reformat and lost all his data. Updated Virus protection is very important.
