If you build a Datejust 16200 series franken, an ETA 2824-2 will fit in there just fine. The real 16200 has a 3135 movement. The same 3135 goes in the Submariner. So with proper rehaut, crown position, 295C crystal, WM9 type bezel assembly and a 2824-2, you would think that it would be fairly simple to build a damn good Sub rep case! Noobmariner dial, bracelet and a gen bezel insert (or even a good watchmaterial/wholesaleoutlet one) and you are there. We've seen the Rolex crown and tube being accurately copied in the last 4-6 months (on the SSD for example). So maybe we're not too far away. I guess in the mean time, I'll keep wearing my noob- it's a great WR beater with a gen crown and better pearl. It's the watch on the right in this pic: attachment=23338:CIMG3474_cropped.JPG]

You could get them from www.cubic-works.com a while back, but the last DW I got was closed 6's and 9's. Their site shows the open 6's and 9's, but everyone's been getting the closed ones lately, AFAIK. Last year I bought a $50 TT Sub and it had the open 6's and 9's- but with a gold background. Kinda like sub cases with lugholes- they've all but disappeared. Too bad the date on the 16800 was the 10th- but I do remember Friday and Saturday were round top 3 days! Interesting bit of trivia, Freddy!

It looks OK to me. The acid test is to take off the bracelet at the 6 o'clock lugs and check the SN- F520117.

I've never seen a flat-top three on a 3035 date wheel. I know my 16800 has the round top three's and open 6's and 9's. I thought the flat-top 3's were only on the 1500 series of movements- esp. the SD's and 1680's, but also the DJ's from time to time- 1600, etc.

Although not perfect- no rep is- the SSD is a very good watch, IMO. Sure there are some shortcomings, the crystal is too high, frontal rehaut (width) is lacking, bezel pearl is not great, crown guards could use a slight trim, there have been some bracelet issues, but all in all, it's still a good watch. 99.9% of the people will never know it's not a gen, and it's certainly a good watch to start with. Isn't the SSD case tube/crown assembly a copy of the gen? If it is, you could use the Clark's (nostalgia2000 on the bay) case tube- 24-7030-0- but you do have to tap the hole in the case cause the Clark's tube is also delicate- I've broke a few myself. Might also have to countersink the case slightly so that the tube will sit in there properly. This would also be a good oppurtunity to upgrade to a gen crown with the aftermarket tube. Maybe someone else can confirm if the SSD crown and tube are copies of the gen, for sure.

I say it's worth $100. $75 for the 2836, $15 for the hands and $10 for the dial. If someone really needs it, $125 or 150 isn't too bad. You can't just run down to the store and buy this stuff!

It would be accurate. All four of the variations occurred during the meters first phase.

In the early 60's, Rolex went thru various types of crown guards on the 5513 and 5512. Square, pointed, etc. Can't remember the maybe four various types, or the order that they occurred in. Skeet and Urul (Vintage Rolex Sport Models) detail this in their book. By the 70's they (Rolex) had become consistent, for the most part. Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't slight variations over the course of the production runs and cases get worn and damaged and polished, so that the shapes aren't always the same. But pointed crown guards are basically a feature of the early 60's. If you were to see a 70's or 80's case with them, it would definitely be a red flag.

I wouldn't worry about the differences so much. It really comes down to you deciding whether you want an asian movt, or an ETA. Long term, the ETA is probably the better move, IMO. But asian movts are easily replaced and cheap. So it's really your decision.

A gen Rolex dial won't fit in a noobmariner case, it's too small. So you can't build a 16800 with a 'Swiss- T<25" tritium dial in that case. Only option is the TW Best case or MBW case. It's too bad, cause the rehaut on the noob is perfect for a 16800! But you could do the 16610 post tritium dial, but w/ lug holes and a 93150 bracelet (501B end pieces), circa the year 2000.

Price? Location of dial feet. Now days some dials come with two sets of dial feet, one asian and one ETA. Just cut off the ones you don't need. Case should be the same. I believe the DG2813 and 2836 will fit in the same case. Why not ask Eurotimez? See what he says.

OR you can go to NDTrading and buy expensive parts and build a Bond sub, but their cases don't necessarily take an eta movement- more like a gen Rolex 1030/1530/1520 movt. Building an NDT Bond will run $2000-2500 or more w/ a Rolex movt. The search for a Bond sub isn't an easy one.

I thought the 93150 was still around. Not cheap- $825 was the last price I'd heard and that was 6 mos ago before the USD went to hell. Of course, it was used on the 16610 up until around 2000 when the 93250 w/ SEL's came out and was still on the 14060 till just recently (or maybe still is?) I've thought about taking my gen 1680 into an AD on a Nato and seeing about ordering a 93150, but I just don't feel like dropping a grand.

Yeh, I got a 702 crown for my gen 1680 from Mark Greenberg for $59. Case tubes are very rare, especially since Rolex started upgrading everything to the 24-703-0 assembly in the early 80's.

Those lugholes look nice. I tried that on a $100 sub, pretty much totaled out the case. It ain't easy to do!

Does anyone know what year code CL6 would be? On a 93150, thru 16800 would be 316L steel, 168000 and 16610 would be- aw heck, I can't remember!

It ain't over yet. My guess is it'll go for $750.
