  1. Good taste, chief!
  2. Hope this helps.
  3. Geat post and I totally agree, Bill! I've seen things get a bit rough in the past and during those times, the forum seems to forget that we are here to enjoy a common hobby among friends. Those of us that have been around for a bit know darn well that there are some terrifc folks here. The good news is that things have always managed to cool down and we return to the reason we are here ...fun, friends, learning and great watches! I also agree that there have been problems in the method certain watches have been marketed. On the flip side, I'm not too keen on the demeanor and language that was used in some of the posts. I am sure that calm/cool heads will prevail & arrive at a solution that address the majority of issues raised plus maintain the terrific sources of watches that we have all enjoyed.
  4. 1) I would say 35-40 from zero to fully wound. 2) Approx. 40 hours 3) You'll feel the resistance of the crown increasing as you begin to reach a full wind. When the crown stops, that's it. You cannot over-wind a manual movement. Wind it smoothly.....easier on the crown and winding mechanism. Best to completely wind once a day, preferably in the AM. I'm sure he'll enjoy the new toy.
  5. Looks like a Sub case with a very thick case back plus the crown is too low. The TW Best was around $265 shipped last time I checked. Not sure what gives with the price on this one. Must be the very high nickel content used in this case.
  6. Very nice work, Kurt! Which bezel are you starting with? I've often thought of doing similar to my TW. The issue with the TW bezel has more to do with it sloping upward which necessitates shaving the gen insert almost paper thin so it will lay flat. With the insert shaved ( another exercise in patience ) if fits fine. It would also improve the fit by working the lip so it's a tad deeper as you have done. On the MBW vintage type bezel, the gen insert should snap right in so modding is not necassary. A nice polish is all this one needs. The Clark superdome looks darn good!
  7. The crystal is thick, beveled and nicely polished. I'm not sure what your friend has but it is a distinct characteristic of rollie subs.
  8. TeeJay, try to hunt down a gen before prices get more out of hand than they alreasy are. if you're interested in the later sapphire models, these are priced quite a bit lower than the acrylic models. I've seen complete & minty examples on TZ for between $1K-1.2K but they don't show up too often. The big plus here is that the gen would always be worth what you paid. An alternative would be to start with a watchmaster Tudor Sub (based on the MBW 1680 case) and go from there. His dials are quite good as are the case backs. The two watchmasters that I have seen have the military dials and axe hands but not sure if that is what you're after. If you recall, Ubi built one terrific no-date Tudor sub about a year ago. You might check his post and see all was involved. He used an OEM dial which fit nicely in the MBW case. Not sure if an OEM Tudor dial would fit a rep 16610 case.
  9. Excellent collection, Davey and very nice work on the vintage beauties. The GMTs are killer! While not a huge fan of gold, the TT looks great. The GMT Master and Explorer II have very nice thick crystals. Are these TW cases? Very nice! Thanks for sharing!
  10. Nanuq, that is one very fine piece of history you have there and of course, a terrific job by "the" artist known as The Zigmeister! You've wanted the dial restored for as long as I can remember and terrific to see that you're more than happy with the results. Enjoy that beauty! Hopefully, you wont be performing some of your more rigorous tests on this one.
  11. Excellent collection and terrific work! The 42mm pumpkin looks sweeeet with the gen hands!
  12. I agree there have been some watches that seemed over priced but there have also been reasonably priced examples. This is true of any other commodity or service in a free market. I'm sort of a movement freak, and would be willing to pay additional for a movement that was properly serviced. These movements for the most part are not properly lubed or timed and having the piece of mind that I have a reliable & accurate time keeper, is worth the price of admission. I just wanted to illustrate that what may be important to some may not be so important to another. With regard to pricing, there is a ton of info here and TRC, if one cares to search. It is also easy to check the various dealer sites and make price comparisons. If after all this one remains unsure, they can always ask. The existing resource options should be more than sifficient to get a handle on values. As to maintaining old sales info available to the public eye, I'm not sure it's useful plus who knows who roams these forums. IMO, pricing is a moving target and depends on factors such as convinience, extras, modifications performed & who performed them, seller reputation, rarity of the watch/movement and methods of pmt accepted. For newbs, relax, take your time and learn a bit before jumping.
  13. That is one gorgeous 'Tona and a very nice gesture by TT. I would have wet my pants if such a great extra were added without having a clue it was coming. Enjoy that rare beauty!
  14. The History Channel has been running an excellent one hour documentary on Leonidals and the 300. It should be more accurately called Leonidas and the 1300. Well worth watching if you have not seen it. I'm looking forward to the film as well!
  15. I wouldn't tempt fate too often by shipping the watch back and forth across continents. The watch seems perfect with the exception of a minor detail specially if the crown/tube arrived in good working order. Order a replacement dial and perhaps it is better or perhaps not. I would send the watch to one of our dial experts, have the logo straightened and the dial and hands lumed....check vaccuum's post on this. The dial and hands look fantastic after they were re-lumed. The hour markers can also be checked to make sure they are securely attatched as they have a tendancy to fall off. Nice PO!
  16. Plexi crystals collect scratches if you're tough on a watch but they can also be easily polished and replaced if need be. I have a few watches with the plaxi and its really not an issue. On the positive, they give the watch a warm vintage appearance that cannot be replicated with sapphire or a flat top mineral crystal. The plexi will not shatter and scratches are easy to remove. Rolex used them in the diver watches for many years as did others. That's a great looking watch! For a minute, I thought it was a discontinued Heuer Carrera re-editioin that are highly sought after, which also have the plexi crystal.
  17. The DW looks terrific on your great white! The little details add up nicely. I received mine yesterday and can't wait to install it on my SD. Terrifc job by the watchmeiters. After checking it out closely, I can only imagine the time invested & pain in the rear it was to get them as close as they are.

I'm not a watchsmith by any stretch of the imagination but it seems that you have a defective or an old worn out surplus movement. There have been threads about this recently. Regulation is reserved for fine tuning the movement's timekeeping accuracy. If intend to keep it long term, consider swapping the movement for a quality ETA 2824 which would cost less than servicing and replacing parts. Hopefully, the dealer will give you a price adjustment for your trouble and cost. Have the new movement intalled when the new dial arrives. The dealer should also send you a new crown/tube but these seem to have a habbit of easily stripping. ETA 2824 at a darn fair price: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=23097&hl= Best of luck!
  19. Great watch, Kruzer! Glad you finally got everything sorted out with the project. The date wheel may not be from the final production run but it looks much better than mine. The Tropic 127 for your 1680 should be an easy find. If alll else fails, Astorlive on Ebay usually has factory sealed stock for around $49.00. Added: How did your case back come out?
  20. I noticed this when I first saw the film. I thought Omega was promoting a more eccentric pronunciation of the brand to justify the highly escalated prices. I do think "Oh-mee-ga" has a nice ring to it and who knows, it may stick. It is a great Bond flick and looking forward to the next! BTW, off camera, apparently Craig sports a Breitling Avenger.
  21. That is excellent work, gents! I have tons of pics of vintage sport rollies and the CGs are all shaped differently. I don't believe they were exact to begin with and after years of polishing, there is a very small chance that any two would be identical. I also spotted a few that were also not symmetrical so pick your flavor. That is one sweeeet 14060M, Kurt! Gotta love the clean dial & pointy crown guards of the no-date!
  22. Looks like a case of using permanently borrowed photos: http://jholbrook.proboards33.com/index.cgi...read=1174060097 Ebay add looks good and authentic. The seller also has good feedback. http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-GMT-Master-II-Pr...1QQcmdZViewItem If you're were thinking of bidding on this, stay clear. I wonder what exaclty is being shipped.
  23. So it is! It still looks damn good. I've seen gen 1680s & Tudors on TZ with the T-19. I know you do all the stunts but your crystal still looks like the gen T-39 or is it the Clark?
  24. Looks damn good, Kurt! The MBW 1665 is one killer wach! Did you install the infamous T-39 superdome? On my wrist as we speak.
