  1. The Asian 21J "GMT" is really a DG3804b. You can find them Ofrei or eBay. My wife magnetized her gen Breitling switching off the Subwoofer to our Home Theater System once. Also, some safe's have electromagnetic solenoid style lock mechanisms.
  2. +1 Just got back from Iceland! The hole country runs on Geothermal. Despite the arctic temperatures, heating buildings was a non-issue. Most shops kept their doors wide open despite 0' C temperatures.
  3. Viable. Problem is our old Cold War era technology being used. READ THIS: http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/12/ff_new_nukes/ and: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorium-based_nuclear_power Thorium is the safe alternative.
  4. Sounds like a typical 2836-ModGMT issue and possibly magnetized causing it to run fast. It probably needs demagnetized and the GMT module repaired. Or if you are handy, R&R the movement with a new one.
  5. Thinking of getting a Gen myself. I checked on out at the AD and it was pretty awesome.
  6. It's called the Set Bridge. You can buy a 2 position or grid out the middle detent. The ETA Part Number for single position set bridge is 952.101 51.090 445/2.
  7. Mine seems to wind fine on my AceTimer....
  8. +1. Well said. EXACT same impression here. Power reserve seems low on mine. Small mainspring. It is a Seiko 'style' auto-wind with no manual wind. The project I was going to gut the movement will not work for me as planned.
  9. I said in a previous. I remember when the Porsche 356 Club would cry outrage over the Speedster & 550 Replicas. Now there are no fewer than FIVE manufacutures of these Replicar's. I know Porsche owners who leave their "bias ply tire" "trailer queen" 356's in their garage, and only go take to the occasional car show. Meanwhile, they have come around and for daily FUN and excitement, are driving their (VW or Subaru powered) Speedster Replicar with big grins on their face. The Porsche community (mostly) have come around. Time for the VRF/Rolex Fanatics to come around as well.
  10. Sort of. Rolex has never released that info, so it is all speculation. Also, the RSC might have legitimately swapped a movment or the bridge with SN. The simple fact, unlike say a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, that spells out matching numbers, etc. No such luck with Rolex. So all the uptight a$$hole fanatics when it comes to "OMG! Your Rolex has been modified" can all Piss off.
  11. I ordered one for disection.
  12. Good point. I bet some of those guys have no issue scavaging a 1570 from a Date or DJ to keep other watches running. Gee....one area where "matching numbers can't be proven" because Rolex is so tight lipped. So in away a saint is a sinner.
  13. Hehehe. Their choice of forum software says it all. They are stuck almost 2 decades in the past. I have a vision of VRF running on an old Compaq Proliant Pentium II server with SCSI drives. LOL.
  14. Source for movements. I have a project that I could use that for. Just the movement actually. If I have to scavange an entire watch I will. Txs
  15. True, but be careful how you apply that logic. Magnification = Cyclops strength + rehaut depth + standoff. So you can use this to compare two crystals side by side. But, in the wild, my shallow rehaut on my Gen Explorer II has a very weak magnification of the actual date wheel. In fact, the reps were over magnified creating a tell or conversely people thinking my gen was fake. Compare that to the old top hat crystal on a 1680. The extra height of the crystal standoff + rehaut makes the 1680 Sub the most magnified DW ever.
  16. Yep PB, was just curious if the Volume "version" accepts updates. ;-)
  17. Advice, if you get called out "sucessfully", buy a lottery ticket! I like that.
  18. I agree with F333. WUS is going the same direction as well. That is why RWG is the best "Watch" forum. Rep, Gen, Franken, modder and makers welcome. It is interesting how outside the "Watch World" concepts like "Maker" or Hacker Spaces are gaining in popularity. The Etsy, Kickstarter, indie mentality of "build, make, restore, build" something is alive and well. From modding PS3's, building things with Arduino or Rasberry Pi devices, "Hackintosh", the list goes on. Yet in the boring old world of Genuine Watch forums, god forbid you talk about anything like that- BAN! The ONLY thing the Gen Forums are good for is the For Sale section. At the end of the day, a watch is a "physical good" that you buy, own, or do a Johnny Cash and build it "One Piece at a Time". If your 1575 powered Rolex dies and you want to replace the movement with an "ant powered hamster cage", so be it.
  19. Ohhh VRF, you are so cute with your Windows 95 era forum software... What's the point... I can think of NO PRODUCT in the history of man that has such dumb a$$ thinking when it comes to modifications, replacement parts, etc... If the movement is the same movement but from a different mfg, who cares.... With RSC's ridiculous parts policy, etc, people need to do what they need to do. If that means a Zenith movement, so be it. At some point VRF needs to ebrace "craftyness, and resourcefulness" of Rolex owners who are able to maintain, service and modify their stuff without the help of RSC.
  20. Hell, I can often be found wearing a pair of Checkered Van's (shoes), jeans and a T-Shirt sporting any number of high end watches. Including my GEN Rolex's. (In my 40's now, but I still wear Van's since I was 13!!!) Personal Style Statement - My wife loves it.
