  1. There is not a watch on that kickstarter that can't basically be had for <$69.00 on eBay in some Chinese homage form or another.
  2. Might as open a P O L E X kickstarter. There is a sucker born every minute.
  3. Got one for $88 and one for $99. Spares.
  4. Good point on the 4:1 1:4 observation. I was speaking to an economist friend about the watch, and "she" pointed out that the Luxury goods market is going through the roof. With the stock market gains being insane in the past few years--- the wealthiest among us are doing very very well. Rolex probably has it right, much to WIS's world wide chagrin. Consider this proof of an economic recovery-- for upper crust, and proof of a diminishing middle class. The $5000 Rolex SS watches of yesteryear were obtainable for middle/upper-middle class. Not anymore. No more "Dominos Pizza Rolex" corporate award watches for middle management. In short, Rolex is a "Luxury Goods Brand" and no longer just a "Watch Company" as we would like to think. A Luxo brand that just so happens to make watches.
  5. White Gold NOT required. ;-)
  6. You will also need to source a RED 24hr hand. :-( This is so disheartening. I am seeing pricing now starting closer to $40,000. ($36,900). At that level, might as well shop for a 6542 where it all began. If it was SS they would actually come closer to selling 3:1 IMHO. (I came over to being more of a GEN guy in recent years. This has reinvorgorated my REP side. A nicely polished SS REP will shine. REP IT!!!! Fsck Rolex. Hell, I would even rock a less than perfect REP here to make a statement.)
  7. Clearly, Tudor has the better designers than parent Rolex these days. Sign me up for a Blue Gen and Red Rep!
  8. Once again "Modern Day Rolex Corp" missing the boat. This will retail somewhere in the $20,000 neighborhood because of the White Gold. Even the current versions are still overpriced at $8500 & $9500 is SS. But still. If they wanted more sales a SS version would sell 2:1. The reps (previous fantasy models) are out there, but their process & red color will be hard to rep. This will look more Bakelite. I have totally given up on (modern) Rolex as a brand, especially when I see the designs coming out of Omega these days.
  9. Ok, this is a lot of Photoshopping!!! Sort of a mis-representation by the end.
  10. Great post. Out of curiosity, what Lift Angle did you set your Timegrapher to? 44' like a 649x?
  11. Lots of Dive watches listed above. Is that what you are after? Here is a list of my recommendations to my friends who want- more than a fashion plate watch, but something of quality. Check out Jomashop.com for some of these brands. 1. Seiko 2. Victorinox Swiss Army 3. Citizen 4. Tissot 5. Hamilton (if on sale) Simply put, Seiko is the Honda/Toyota (in your price range) and even Lexus/Acura/Infinity (Grand Seiko/Spring Drive) of the watch world if comparing to auto brands. (that's how I explain to my non-WIS friends)
  12. Had a GENUINE set of Rolex Submariner hands sitting on a piece of Rodico. I absent mindlessly grabbed said Rodico and ROLLED IT IN MY FINGERS mangling the GEN set of hands.
  13. If ONLY you will be looking at the back than do what makes you happy. However, one look at the back and it SCREAMS REP! It is a undecorated 2836 that is really nothing special.
  14. I believe the "Alpha" brand or "Chronotac GMT" Chinese GMT homage watches all use the same 3804 style movement. Might want to search eBay for GMT watches under $100 w/automatic movements.
  15. Have you heard from PT? I am surprised by the "this does not warrant sending back/replacing". Has the second caused any damage to the dial by sliding around for however long it bounced around in there? True- you would need to send it back first, then have the replacement either with a new dial & hand pressed on etc.
  16. Nothing against the brand. Nice stuff overall. Price does not necessarily warrant "repping". My impression of the brand is that it is the brand the "Ambercrombie & Fitch" crowd graduate to. Not a dig or insult, just an observation. In the mall's near me, they are adjacent to or next to an Ambercrobie store. For the same price as their shirts, you could actually do better with a Made to Measure at a local tailor or Nordstrom. Nothing beats custom shirts tailored to your build.
  17. For typical Asian 21J's, regardless of condition just use the winder. You are dealing with $25.00 movement's that can easily be R&R'd. That said. The Asian 7750 is another story. (Hell even a GEN 7750) I would approach a little more cautiously. Some winders with "Fuzzy Logic" (i.e. NOT settable for Clockwise/Counter Clockwise) will NOT keep a 7750 (Gen or Rep) wound more than a week without actual wearing it. This also holds true with Miyota 8215 aka "Asian 21J clones" that "only wind in one direction".
  18. Hey gang. I love the enthusiasm on this subject but I need to interject with another PSA for Allergy/Sinus sufferers out there, everywhere. Story: So, I have the luxury of working from my local coffee-shop - indie cafe on a pretty regular basis. Recently, this guy has been totally stinking up the place with "too heavily applied" cologne. Talk about a BUZZ kill (Pun intended). Walking into my favorite local haunt, with hopes of doing an hour or so of work on the ole' laptop, now results in a sinus headache and me leaving one of my favorite places. :-( (He too appears to be a "Camper" (someone who spends hours at the place) so there is no avoiding him this last week!!!) THANK YOU - those of you - Who know how to properly apply/wear their colognes. To the young or uninitiated, please, a dab on your pulse points is all you need. I should NOT be able to smell you from 15' away. A good rule of thumb - I should NOT be able to smell you until I am in "Reading Distance of the Watch Brand on your Wrist." Again, thanks for the common courtesy... Carry on. :-)
  19. It is the Tropic 127 Flat Top. This is straight up "normal" 1680 model Submariner.
