  1. Doah! Anyone realize this topic was from 2008? I was all exited to watch the next House episode and see him wearing a PAM, knowing he was always the Hamilton guy.
  2. A 7753 is essentially a 7750 3-6-9 configuration. The Asian clones copy the 7750 dimensions, so I do not see why not...
  3. A side note and a plea. Although I am a strong believer in simply showering and not smelling (foul or otherwise), I respect everyone's right to smell however they want. PLEASE, go easy on the cologne. The etiquette when wearing perfume or cologne is the 1" rule or "Intimate Distance" rule. I have a very sensitive nose, which makes me a great Sommelier in my spare time, but as a result of a sensitive olfactory system-- I wind up suffering from non-allergic rhinitis. In other words, people who "bathe" in cologne or perfume tend to send me into essentially an allergic reaction that left unchecked usually leads to a sinus infection. I have had to leave restaurants, leave parties early, have seats changed on an airplane because some man or woman went ape $hit applying their perfume/cologne. In conclusion, PLEASE, be considerate to what are essentially allergy sufferers out there to perfume/cologne, and stick with the 1" / Intimate Distance rule. (This is usually the equivalent of a dab on each side of the neck and other pulse points on your body. Spraying on cologne violates this basic rule of etiquette.) [edit to add] you should never wear cologne/perfume to a formal wine tasting event, and possibly even a gourmet restaurant/meal. Your perfume/cologne can/will ruin the experience for wine geeks and foodies. THANKS FOR READING.
  4. Very nice. Another DG3804 GMT!!! Tell me more about the open 6 and 9 date wheel... ???
  5. Number when response when handing a GEN Rolex Submariner, Explorer II, GMT Master to someone: "Wow, that is light, I thought it would be heavier (pause)... is it real?"
  6. Nice job! What are the specs? Is it DG based, ETA based, etc? Looks like the dial is circa 1972. The crown does not look gen though??? The crystal looks similar to a Chronotac donar I have laying around...
  7. There has been a lot of discussion about this watch, both Gen and Rep. It is somewhat of a love it or hate it watch, as it follows Rolex's modern Maxi (some would same unbalanced looking) design philosophy. I stand by what I have said in a previous post that it looks more like something out of a Seiko design studio than a Rolex studio. YMMV. My god that is hideous.
  8. Correct, I own a GEN Navitimer from 2008 based on the Valjoux 7753. There is NO QUICKSET date on it other than the "rock-n-roll" method sneed12 mentions. In short, you have four options even with the GEN. 1.) Use a winder 2.) If you let it stop, wait till you are close next month. 3.) Roll-Roll-Roll your crown and get a blister 4.) Rock-N-Roll your crown and minimize your blister. Why doesn't someone buy one of the new PAM reps and a Navi Rep, and swap the movement?
  9. I simple use a dremel to open the ID of the retaining ring, and use use the heat method as well.
  10. I had 6th row and 8th Row @ Red Rocks. Personally, I like the way Geddy's voice has toned down from his Banshee days. However, he can still hit the highs when he has too. Since the R30 tour his vocalization of "Freewill" has been incredible. When they come out of the middle solo and he belts out the "Each of us, a cell of awareness...." line, it gave me goose bumps at the concert(s). I might be dating myself here, but I have seen them almost every tour since Permanent Waves.
  11. Nice YouTube find -- but I NEVER see commercials on the web thanks to Firefox and AdBlock+ The Non-YouTube version I posted is of better quaility than even the 720p version on YouTube. I recommend my original link for HD quality over the SD YouTube. http://www.musicrada...live-dvd-509923
  12. Couldn't resist: Seriously though, maybe run it through a wash cycle with your cloths.
  13. Wow! Just released. I saw Rush twice on this tour. Even if you are not a Rush fan, but are into seriously talented musicians this video is a must watch. Don't let the crazy reggae into throw you. Around the 2:20 minute mark the solo's blow up, and Neil's finish is well.... Not bad for a bunch of 55yr old guys. Link, then full screen the video. http://www.musicrada...live-dvd-509923
  14. In general I would like to agree with this. However, my experience owning GEN's from some of the big 5, this is not always the case. Plenty of crooked markers, lume, and finishing issues exist. See my response further down on quality... (cont) Also, I would not discount Seiko from a "Value / Worth" discussion such as this. Seiko reliability is key to their success, and reliability and price together help form value. Grand Seiko and Spring Drive have earned their place. Luxury is the keyword here. I love making parallels to auto's in this respect. The old Honda/Toyota -vs- BMW/Mercedes/etc argument. Google PC -vs- Mac value sometime. Also, by qualifying the CZ ring with no one finding out, you sort of null and void the argument. Reality is different. (cont. below in quality reply) I have to disagree, somewhat, with this. Back to cars, you will also see that Ferrari, Jaguar, etc, tend to be in the shop disproportionally to your standard auto. This is not that different to a precisely engineered watch. Building a COSC watch, perpetual calendar, etc, often requires precision that if not maintained 'more diligently' can fail more often. More complications, more failures. I own/have owned GEN watches from Rolex, Breitling, Omega, Ebel, Tutima, Ball all with list prices in the $5000 neighborhood. Guess what. 80% of my GENs have developed problems (thankfully while under warranty) that required shipped back to their respective service centers. This is usually a MINUIMUM 2 Month process. Patek and Breguet may take over a YEAR! So not unlike the Ferrari that goes into the shop, and a part needs to come from Italy, it is very much the same. Maybe I have bad luck. Every time I have been to my favorite AD, there are people in line at the Service desk dropping off their broken expensive timepieces. This ~might~ be a more recent phenomenon, but I think some of this has to do with the more automated assembly as well, and lack of QC. Statistically, I have had close to 100 Reps, many based on Miyota 8215s (aka DG/Asian 21J's) pass thru my hands. Out of 100 the problem rate is a low 10% or 10 in 100. Most of the problem REPs were A7750's, which are "more complicated" to begin with, or old re-purposed ETAs that were dry or gummed up. While I have had 21J's with the 21J stutter, and less then perfect time keeping, I have never had a straight up dead or early failure of a 21J. In fact my, Japanese Miyota 8215 powered Submariner from 1995 kept great time and will still run if I pull it out of retirement. As usual YMMV...
  15. Finally!!! A 029 with bold white date wheel!
  16. My original post on page one that I "." / retracted was along this line. I thought it was too soon to 'speculate'. However, I will summarize something I was going to say: Does everyone remember about 9 months ago, there was another auction for a BOX of 5517 Military dials? It was also in the UK. It was poo-poo'd by many here as them being re-dials. ???? Anyone else remember? It seems plausible, this could be a subset of that former auction. Throw in some Rolex "Tins", and sleeves and Viola. There is NO EXCUSE these days for crappy photos on eBay.
  17. Interesting. I have never seen this be an issue. I wonder...Is it a DG, Naning, TY, Seagull, or even Miyota. Essentially these are all clones of the original Miyota 8215, but made by a many Chinese companies. It could be simply the Rotor design on your particular movement. P.S. A real "DG" has what looks like a 3 legged Octopus engraved under the balance.
  18. It may actually be a 2836 or a 2824. The jury is always out on whether these are truely "swiss" ETA movements. Considering the quick failure of yours, I am guessing it is a Clone ETA. If it is only a few months old with a problem, Josh might step up and help you out. He is one of the best/good guys.
  19. You can buy a new movement from Ofrei, or pillage one from a GEN Tissot, or other GEN Inexpensive brand. (eBay) At the end of the day, you would be lucky to find a watchmaker who would service it for less than $150, -vs- doing an R&R for between $100-140. Furthermore, is it really SWISS, and not an Asian clone? What is the watch?
