  1. Boy, oh boy. How deep should this forum sink? If you cannot discuss in a civilized manner, pls just don't discuss at all.... Stick to issues, pls!
  2. I have dealt with Mark a few times. He is all right, but not perfect. He definitely does not check the watches before shipping. I have received one incorrect watch, one with a gap between dial and chapter ring and one where the chrono sets to 9.48. And when he sent me the wrong watch it took some haggeling to get him to acknoledge liability. I have not done anyting about the others as I do not want all the hassle. But for plain shifting of watches he is OK. Communication is good.
  3. Take a look at this one: http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=21432 And notice that although there are a few good reps, the consensus here and on other fora is that you cannot rely on the watches being properly tested when you buy them. You need to get it done yourself before you jump into the deep end to be on the safe side. - Even if you just want to swim.
  4. I am surprised to find Aoobuy on this list. I have only seen positive comments on the various fora, and I have just received a Breitling SOSF from him. Easy transaction, watch really nice. And price (the total price landed in the UK) beats anything I have seen elsewhere. If there was a virus problem it seems to have been resolved. And such issues can hit even very well known companies ( I seem to recall that the Financial Times had a problem some months ago....) So from me a recommendation.
  5. I Couldn't wait for the responses I got to this one. Thanks for the help!!
  6. Can anyone help??? (Hint - guess it means watch sent.......but I really don't know!!!
  7. Can I hire you as my photographer????
  8. Most advice provided here seems to be of an emotional nature. You would really be best off with Belgian legal advice. In the UK there is a national scheme called the Ctitzens Advice Bureau, where you can get basic legal advice free of charge. Perhaps call your local authorities to find out if there is a similar system in Belgium. That way you would get competemt advice without any initial costs.
  9. That Ebel that By-Tor goes on about seems as accurate as it gets and gets his stamp, gotta add that as well. I have one of those. And have seen the Gen in Switzerland. And even knowing the difference I found it hard to spot. Guess it may need a service though, as the power reserve has been a bit tempermental. Also have noted that mine as well as most pictures I have seen show a small gap between the dial and the chapter ring from the 10 to the 1 o'clock position. So perfect it ain't. - But very good though!
  10. I'm looking for the brown version of the 6 o'clock date version. And as cheap as possible. Watcheden has a great selection of SOH at different price levels and all 3 colours. Their entry level can be had for $88 shipped. - Except they don't have the one I am looking for....
  11. Thanks for that. I feared as much, finding manual winding and plate a difficult combination. But your point about re-plating is interestig. If there are any good plating service out there, it should be on the pinned thread. (perhaps there already is one, but I have not found it....) It is a real shame when a nice watch becomes unwearable and cannot be fixed.
  12. Reviving this one... How has the watch performed? Especially the gold plating??
  13. When looking to buy a watch I have noted that there are an awful lot listed which upon closer inspection are actually sold. I have also noted that a number of sellers and buyers prefer to operate within their own customs area. To not have to go through all the ones which really are not available for me I would suggest that the rules for listhing here are changed as follows: 1) When the watch is put up for sale it should be listed where it is and if seller will ship elsewhere. Example: FS UPO (US/Overseas possible) or FS UPO (CONUS) 2) When the watch is soled, this should be clearly stated in the headline. Example SOLD UPO (US/Overseas possible) These small changes would make it much easier to navigate for watches for sale.
  14. I like the idea. At the moment the dealers have a cartel, and customers are all on their own. I am convinced that prices are artificially high because we cannot individually shop around on all the dealers all of the time. I also think that such bukl purchase could be used with other non-caratel dealers, who might as yet be undiscovered by the rep folums. So interresting idea. Has anyone got the time and energy to make it reality??
  15. Great design. Personally I prefer it in gold with a leather strap. And consider buying it. But has anyone got experience with the quality of the plaing on the rep?
  16. In my opinion spacing is rather insignificant. Much more important for a watch of this category is if the rep has captured the spirit of the original. The refinement of the detailing makes this watch, and this can be very hard to catch on a photo. In this case I notice that the picture of the gen makes no attempt to show all this. Probably to prevent replication....
  17. Also thanks from me for this review, which follows a pattern for reviews on the rep-sites very closely. May I however comment on this style of review. Not as a critisism of this review in particular, but as a general criticism. A watch like this one is primarily a tool. To show the time and to be worn and used. And some very basic aspects relating to these issues are frequently not covered on this and similar sites. Namely, how accurate is the watch, how is the power reserve and is it waterproof? Being a sports watch it should be waterproof - at least to go swimming with. It seems to me that some of the suppliers get away too lightly when they do not insist on getting these aspects right. Other than for a small group of geeks it is more important to have a functional watch which is beautifully made than to have an accurate look-alike which does not serve its purpose. Just a thought, and please take this as constructive critisism. I really do appreciate the aspects you have covered as well as the great pictures.
  18. Welcome aboard. I myself joined fairly recently and have found this site really informative and useful. But because I have moved around the web in blissful ignorance before I came here I also had the opportunity to test a couple of dealers who definitely are not recommended here. Probably with good reason. And yet I might suggest you to look at this Breguet as an alternative to your list: http://www.exactreplicas.com/breguet-silve...ca-Watches.html. This guy runs a campaign with 50% off (cupon code lastchance), bringing this watch to a total of app $110 shipped. So here is why excactreplicas.com may not be fully recommended (in my experience): Communication is hopeless. It took ages for my order to get here, and I was beginning to wonder if it ever would arrive. As for customer service, I have yet to test it. But I recon that with prices like these it is worth it to write a few off from time to time if needed. However I have received 3 watches from him, 2 of which spot on and the third very close to the picture shown. Have had them succesfully pressure tested to 5 bar and used them. All worked fine. Rolex and Vacheron Constantin are very nice (except leather strap on VC), Audemars Piguet so-so (the latter a bit my own fault, as I now realise that I also do not like the one depicted on the site....) So if you do buy here you can get some really cheap stuff to form a basis for your collection ..... and if you are anything like the rest of us you will end up with one!! But you will need a lot of patience to get what you order. Anyhow - good luck with your new acquisition(s).
  19. Love this story. Had a similar experience today. Took my noob submariner to be pressure tested. Just to be sure that I can swim with it. The guy in the (admittedly non AD but still a professional watchmaker) took one look at it and refused to do it.....because it would be unnessecary! I then insisted and suggested that it might not be real following which he decided that I might not be real. - At least his face looked that way. Test was then performed up to 100M. No prob. And all that for a watch which cost me $70.
  20. Why would this make a real difference? I hope - and really think - that most rep buyers have no intentions of ever passing on their watches as gen for financial gain. But to prevent anyone trying this technology may be of some use. For the rest of us I doubt that it will make any difference for the forseeable future. So good luck Hublot et all.
  21. Hmmmm. Will think about it and see how far it takes me. Hesitant because pictures may not clearly demonstrate small differences which add up to a major "feel". I guess that my interest is different from many others in so far that I am less concerned with precise replication and more interested in feel and functionality. How precise is the watch, does the chrono work, is it water proof, will the glass scratch, etc. I will not normally worry if an expert eye can tell that the font on the date is marginally different. - If it is really nicely done that is more important to me. And that would be very hard to compare from pics alone. For that you would need to have the watches in hand. But never say never....
  22. Have seen a few extremely well written comparisons between top reps and gens. And as a direct result bought an Ebel 1911. But in general my budget rather forces me to compare noobRep vs King-of-Rep - which in turn could be compared to the Gen as a reference point. I think this sort of comparison could be of great general interest. Certainly it is good to know at what level one should aim when splashing out on yet another not-quite-needed-but-nice-to-have watch. Lots of watches - in particular Rolex - are available in several versions. Currently I am interested in the Proche Flat6. Gets really good comments and is advertised on timesshop.net for either $108 or $325. What are the differences? What do I get for the extra money? Side by side pictures? Let's hear!
  23. Great to read this. But one question from me: What pressure should the watch be able to stand for swimming and diving into a pool? Some say minimum 3 bar. What would be your recommendation?
