Dude, what is it with you......I believe that was once my watch.......BTW, it is stunning, dirty, but stunning:-)
-
Great question Chief.......The countersink bit for 5/32" will be a bit larger. I use the 5/32" drill bit and work it by hand to control how much cutting takes place. The I polish out the hole, re-tap and install the tube. I have had no luck using the actual Countersink bit. Kurt.

Thanks. I am trying to research it for Authenticity. Another Gem my watchmaker came across to sell. I'll have to return it tomorrow :-(
-
I'll have this one on as soon as it is re-assembled :-) True Vintage Sweetness Have a great Friday!

I use 5/32" but it depends on how low the hole is. Often it can chew away the bottom if the position is too low. The older George MBW's worked out pretty well though. good luck, Kurt

Option 1 for me. Naturally aged lume and match the hands. You can't replicate mother nature.....Zig comes close.

JoJo my friend, I hope to help you in your pursuit. I wish it was by buying your Frankens but I doubt that I could. My watchmaker will be back in town on Monday and your pursuit will be discussed I have been collecting watches for over 20 years and wish I had all my gens back. But I know myself well enough to know that my collection would never be a static one. So the Modding of reps helps me to take a more personal ownership of my watches....not to mention helping my budget Just don't ever forget your family here.....I know you won't. Enjoy your weekend and remember: They are only watches..........yeah, right kurt

Do you want a Gen 25-39(modern replacement for the vintage) or a rep issued 39 from an MBW? Kurt. -
Well, A vintage or replacement 5513, 5513 or 1680 will fit. However, if you go with a Gen and your 5517 isn't an MBW, tou will have to mod the insert and use glue to install it. Good luck and welcome to the realm of the Crown.

Today only: Mini Picture Studio Kit for $16 shipped
Justasgood replied to dvn's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the heads-up.......just bought one for myself as well. -
Um, check the post again. I had an original almost perfect dial. But why use it in a franken that will always be a franken and worth nothing in the market, when I can sell it for a boat load of money and build a bunch of watches. I think the dial is the best feature of this watch second only to the hands

How to waste $100.00 in no time flat......
Justasgood replied to Justasgood's topic in General Discussion
No nuts and unfortunately, there isn't an extraction set small enough for this job. There is 1 thread visible but it is too small to get my pin vice attached to. Not to mention that it is loctited in. So, I count on some sympathecic soul to extend some help.......I'll pay of course. Not looking foe a freebie. Heck, it doesn't have to be high quality. It just has to be for an automatic Valjoux application. Thanks, Kurt. -

No need as your help has been immense. I just thought you might find a use for it. As for when it snapped, the keyless works were a bit stiff....not that it was forced, but yeah, the movement needs a shim to bring it down about .05 mm. Lesson learned. I guess the original suffered the same fate for this reason. I have the alignment handled, just need a crown:-( -
Well, in helping a friend whose Daylight Chrono was not working, I discovered that the stem was broken. It broke in such a way that the crown was useless. So......I spend $100.00 on the RWG auction for 2 crowns. 1 auto Valjoux and 1 manual unitas plus stems. I send the manual wind to a friend(didn't need it anyway and buy a valjoux stem from my watchmaker. My Palp valjoux crown just got here so I set about the business of repairing the chrono. Stem trimmed, crown and loctite installed.......install crown/stem into movement.......and......you guessed it.....Snap! Stem breaks.........right at the crown. Now I have a brand new Palp crown of no use to me and a daylight chrono that still doesn't work. Anybody got a spare crown? I can get another stem. No good deed goes unpunished......or cheaply. This one cost me 100 large. Thanks, Kurt.

Now that is a sweet watch. Nato's are always a good choice and a classic look......comfortable as all get out too. Great deal for both.

Well said and I concur. Congrats! -
No offense taken. Of course. in the past, I have referred to this watch as a "Franken" but to save ink, I called it all gen Except for the case, dial and hands. For you and others peeved by this, I will in this post and in the future list all the "gen parts" and "non gen" parts so there will be no confusion or peeving Parts list of the gilt: Movement - Gen 1560 serviced Bracelet - Gen 93150 501B endlinks Crown - Gen Tube - Gen Gasket - Gen Bezel Assembly - Gen Insert - Gen Crystal - Gen 25-19 Springbars - Gen Hands/dial (Prior Gen Service) now The Zigmeister Lumed aftermarket 5512 Case(Sans bezel assembly) - NDT modded by jag. Yep, definately not Gen however, it is ALL GEN except the midcase, and dial/hands.....just as my post stated. as for the CG's, no two cases from Rolex were the same and compared to JoJo's Gen Gilt 1963 5513 procured by your's truly, they are close enough for most................especially me Gen Never polished: My all Gen 5512 except the case dial and hands: My movement cal. 1560: Gen movement cal. 1530: Gen dial: Dial I was going to use but sold it to fund A-LOT of watch projects: Profiles: Notice my All gen except the case dial and hands has a "been polished " profile as compared to the gen which has never seen a polishing wheel other the the day it was assembled, Well, I hope this clears things up a bit. My all gen except for the case, dial and hands gets many, many, many compliments from AD's, collectors and the general public. And I am proud to tell them I built this sucka over the last 2+ years. But hey, thanks for the insight and your right, the CG shape is off. Perhaps I'll wait until I have the gen I want in my hands, before I go off on some silly pursuit to mod a watch from memory. Have a great week, Kurt.
