  1. Last summer I had a chance to try a Max Bill on while vacationing in Andorra. It's a wonderful watch: slim, light on the wrist, and has an incredible presence thanks to that huge curving crystal and barely-there bezel. I would love this to be my semi-formal Junghans!
  2. Thanks, E, and that AP looks great! I'm still regretting how my deal to buy an MBW Jumbo fell through two years ago.
  3. Wow! Discounted like it was a Nataf-era Zenith!
  4. I had no idea, Archie. While I'm sure that everything is on the up-and-up with regard to the "SWISS MADE" label, I've always had this mental image fully-assembled Datejusts coming out of a factory in Switzerland! Next you'll be telling me that it doesn't actually take a year to make one of these things!
  5. I feel like I'm walking into a trap here, but what exactly do you mean by that?
  6. Like Ephry73, I have also re-read this entire post. I am very, very jealous of the "REGISTERED DESIGN 1016" engraving, because this is barely readable on my scuffed-up gen! 1680: This is a gorgeous Explorer, and it is extremely gratifying to read about someone's similar love for these watches. Well done!
  7. Wonder what Kamal Choraria has to say about this.
  8. €2300 for a nice black dial from jatucka in Italy, now on VRM. Not exactly cheap, but these aren't getting cheaper!
  9. One of the sweetest noises I've heard from a watch was the alarm of a JLC Memovox Tribute to Polaris. (This is the reissue, not the original.) Unlike most Memovoxes, and most alarm watches in general, it sounded like trilling bells rather than a joy buzzer. Unfortunately, that was a $10K watch several years ago. It hasn't gotten any cheaper. EDIT: Found a video! Audio quality isn't great, but you can still tell that the ringing is rather special. Not even the more recent Tributes to Deep Sea sound like it:
  10. Fine guy with a fine collection. Happy Birthday!
  11. If you can find one of DW's black "Big Red" dials, it would be your most cost-effective solution. Phong's black dials look good (definitely better than NDT) but they're not cheap.
  12. I was wearing my OKEAH while exercising yesterday! But today I'm not Russian, I'm German: New strap from mcotter, and it's a beaut.
  13. I don't think you were on RWG when this happened, but I remember when a longtime member bought ubi's 7032 build (NDT case, plus a ton of gen parts--including a bezel) for a ridiculously low $2K, then turned around and tried to sell it for a ludicrously high $50K. (Found the thread: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/121879-wtf-ubis-7032-going-for-50k/)
  14. 'A' in a circle in a triangle suggests an Alpina. That's all I've got!
  15. I don't think DW ever really went away. His 7032 is, despite its quirks, one of the best you can buy. If you must have one, all I can suggest is not to order more than one thing at a time.
  16. The Certina DS is a classic model, and yours has a terrific patina. Wear it well!
  17. Is fakebusta the same as the old 'fakewatchbuster' account? ...or is it a rep?
  18. "I think there's been a mistake." "DID YOU SAY STEAK?!"
  19. Daily, unless there's a formal evening event and my day's choice is screamingly inappropriate.
  20. I haven't broken any free diving records with one, but I have done a lot of laps with the v5 on my wrist. No problems.
  21. Here's Stilty's original post: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/66391-a-few-pics-of-my-very-first-vintage-franken-project/?hl=%2B1016 There were several follow-up threads as he upgraded some parts e.g. the bracelet and the springbars. It's still a great Explorer franken today, but in 2008 it was mind-blowing.
  22. I'm glad I could help! I'm just a link in a long chain that -for me- starts with Stilty and his landmark 1016 franken. Again, congratulations, and may all our obsessions be chased down and conquered!
  23. Very similar to the dial I have in my 6239. I used to think it was a repaired genuine dial, but janeto72 convinced me otherwise. Good thing I got it for a decent price!
