  1. This is always a fun exercise! Someone's selling a 727 in "very good condition" for the bargain price of EUR 10,000. What's wrong with it? Be as thorough as you can!

Very nice, cc33! Lots of character in those 'dirty' registers! When you post additional pics, could you take a straight side profile?
  3. The cases are different, and there are multiple sub-types for each supplier. DW's case has gone through at least two or three evolutions, while ordering from Phong can get you one of several cases--some more accurate than others! Valty had a nice comparison last year.
  4. Although I've heard of some problems fitting very early V72s into Daytona cases, the dimensions should be identical i.e. you shouldn't need to mod it. In fact, most of the Daytona frankens I've seen use V72s rather than V726s. The main reason why the newer movement is preferred is because it ticks at 21600bph (rather than 18000), which matches the beat rate of the Rolex 727.
  5. It's a Valjoux 72; the 726 didn't have a needle regulator. Gallets of that era either used a V72 or an Excelsior Park movement, and I'm not aware of Gallet ever making a chronograph with a 726 inside.
  6. Rude... but accurate! I don't like the direction the Speedmaster line is going. But as long as Omega continues to make the classic, manual-wind Professional, I won't complain too loudly.
  7. I agree with the last sentence, but if you can get a Reduced for a thousand bucks, you can probably get that thousand back when you've gotten tired of it!
  8. Thanks! Giving the bracelet a break as the temperature starts to take a dip.
  9. You should not have to pay more than USD 2000 for a Reduced. A few months ago, I would see many examples selling for 1-1.5k at auction. That's a fair price to me. Anything more and you're better off saving for a Professional. I've also heard that the piggyback chrono module can be difficult to service. But then again, I've never heard of anyone actually needing to have one serviced or replaced.
  10. Fantastic post, blue.! Seeing these pictures makes me fall in love with with the 1016 all over again. Luckily, I'm just a few feet away from my watch box! Regarding the crystals, the problem with the MBW (and almost all 1016 reps) is that the dome is too low. On the gen, the crystal protrudes by nearly 1mm before the crystal starts to curve. Like so: No. On Lanikai's Gilt 1016 build, he asked Zigmeister to shave a Clark T22 so that it would fit the MBW. The results were not pretty, as the modifications completely killed the profile of the crystal. This is not a knock on Zig's work (which is always exemplary), but more an observation of how you can't squeeze a square peg in a round hole.
  11. To be precise, they claim it's the "first 1:1 Tudor replica". I don't know how good the old Tudor Hydronaut reps were but, like most people, I don't much care. Looking forward to picking this one apart!
  12. The hammer prices at that auction were frightening. I'd better start buying spare parts now.
