  1. Most accurate aftermarket dials are from DW's old batch. Most accurate steel bezels are also from DW, though these need to have their inner diameters widened to accommodate a proper (i.e. gen-spec) crystal.
  2. I think you mistake me for someone else, as I'm actually much older than that. I do a Lana Turner impersonation.
  3. I love the classic panda design, and that new movement looks VERY promising.
  4. I've got a golden Girard Perregaux with that kind of bracelet. It, uh, doesn't get a lot of wrist time...
  5. Liquid Papered lume dots aside, it looks pretty good to me. I don't know of anyone who's been able to replicate that coppery sheen you get when a camera flash bounces off a gen silver dial. Fonts look correct, as do all the metal bits.
  6. I had no idea Andrew Shear was such a young guy! I always assumed he was a contemporary of someone like James Dowling. Now that I think about it, I had a similar reaction when I first saw a picture of MkII's Bill Yao. Must be a sign that I'm getting old...
  7. Fantastic find! I love Hermes. (I'd love it more if it weren't so damn expensive for me.)
  8. Breathtaking price that hinges entirely on the provenance of the movement, as far as I'm concerned. I'll need more than "Valjoux 727"! Visually, I'd rather have wiesn089's old build. (Right, Daniel?)
  9. M, I think I need an illustrated glossary of movement parts! I referred to that chevron-shaped bridge as a mount, because the entire assembly shows up as "#8080 - Coupling clutch, mounted" on Valjoux 23/72 manuals: ceejay: Thanks for the info about Incabloc. I didn't know about the naming requirement.
  10. Yes, a 1016 would be rather nice for Monday!
  11. It's not just the case that's not original. I agree that the bezel is aftermarket; my guess is Yuki, rather than DW, due to the spacing of the '110' and the overall poor quality of the printing. I also have doubts about the movement. Take a look at the chronograph bridge: The engravings look off and the countersinking around the rubies is noticeably shallow. Now look at the balance bridge: I don't think Rolex ever used an Incabloc shock absorber on its Daytona movements (but please correct me if I'm mistaken). There's also a screw going through the middle of the coupling-clutch mount, which -as far as I know- you only see on non-Rolex Valjoux 72s.
  12. I suspect it's going to be a very long wait until we see a Pepsi in steel, but I hope Crwilsn's right. I just don't believe appealing to the traditionalist base is high on the Rolex priority list.
  13. Yep. Subdial texture alone should be an instant disqualifier.
  14. Thanks, flex! I have to wonder which of his pieces had the aftermarket bezel and dial. 3CROC RIP?
  15. In the spirit of today's thread, here's my teeny-weeny wristie:
  16. Like you, I've totally given up on modern Rolex. Unfortunately, I've also totally given up on Omega because they want to sell their watches at modern Rolex prices!
  17. I like it, but what I really want is a blue Pelagos!
