  1. Nope, couldn't find an Argentinian watch to wear for today...
  2. I only recently discovered that this new rep of the Aquatimer Vintage had been released. Not that I'm desperate for a new rep to buy or anything, but I'm curious if anyone actually bought one. Other than the datewheel font, have any replication issues been identified?
  3. Love martijnp's Ingy... and asciiwhite's beard/pipe combo! Haven't worn this in a while:
  4. Amazing! The Pan Am Cosmo makes that Linz PN look like a pile of puke!
  5. I know how it is. I do not like marriage watches at all, but I also don't want to tamp down people's enthusiasm about anything. However, these marriage watches are often surrounded by an air of deception, if not outright fraud. Why is this different from most of the reps we talk about in this forum? Because we know exactly what they are, and where they come from. The sales thread was very hazy about the watch's provenance, and threw in a bogus, bubblejet-printed "official letter from Omega" for good measure, so I had to ask for a clarification. But both parties seemed happy with the deal.
  6. Some of my doubts are contained in the sales thread for this watch: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/166642-1912-omega-big-pilot-sold/ To quote myself: And droptopman: You didn't miss this watch before!
  7. J, I'm amazed when I think about the sort of 1016 rep $150 would have gotten me all those years ago--or even would get me today! Stunning achievement. It's no wonder you've already got tire-kicking nit-pickers on your sales thread!
  8. New vs. old is apples and oranges, as far as I'm concerned. That said, I'd love to have the new rep, but the laws of supply and demand say otherwise! I would go (and did go) for the FF95. To quote myself from 2012:
  9. Really loving the Tudor Subs today! CK2915 on a Donerix strap:
  10. I forgot about that! I was thinking of lanikai and Zigmeister's attempt at fitting a Tropic 22 onto an MBW case many years ago. Not pretty, but thankfully that issue was solved by a proper-sized bezel (i.e. jmb's). I would still recommend jmb's case to most people, since the MBW is so hard to source. J: That old Tiffany dial seems to get better with age!
  11. As tomhorn notes, all the out-of-the-box options are dead ends if you decide to add gen parts later. I used to recommend the Trusty 1016 as the best low-cost option (i.e. <$250) but jmb's kits offer a far more compelling watch at nearly the same price.
  12. I'd be very interested to know if anyone's got that information at hand. There's nothing specific in either "Daytona: A Legend Is Born" or in the Patrizzi Pocket Expert. Maybe in one of those huge and hugely expensive Daytona books?
  13. Regarding the subdial hands, the thickness was constant throughout the production of the 6263. I've only seen thinner hands (needle for the running seconds, dagger-shaped on the minute and hour registers) on the earliest 6239s, 6240s, and 6241s. From what I can tell, the switch to the fatter "torpedo" hands occurred while the 6239 was still fitted with the 300 UPH bezel.
  14. Oh, you guys with your Blancpains!
  15. Well, there is that waffle-dial 6350 that I've always wanted to put together...
  16. The main plus for TC hands is their convexity. Clark hands (at least the sets I ordered years ago) are flat. The shapes -most noticeably, the tip of the hour hand- are also much better replicated on the TC set.
  17. Wonderful to see this all together and on your wrist! Fantastic color on the dial, too. Reminds me of the lume job on stilty's landmark Explorer franken. You're welcome, and it's always a pleasure to share the enthusiasm. Anyone who loves a 1016 is a friend of mine.
  18. Really like that second one, kin tama!
  19. At the start of May, we had stevedrk, rolojack, then DVNE's build. A week later, jmb brings kin tama's dream of a white Explorer to life. Finally, at the end of May, we got ogladio's utterly bonkers and utterly gorgeous franken with a gilt dial. Now we've got yours coming up, and I'm still hearing from guys with builds at various stages. It's the summer of 1016! Looking forward to seeing Pbdad's work up close, tomhorn!
  20. I just read your post for the first time, chrgod. Very good work! I have a few collector friends who've bought from Nomos, but your review has really piqued my interest.
  21. Not silly at all! The Carrera is an automatic, but you've probably looked at the photos and asked, "Where's the rotor?" Cal. 12 is a micro-rotor movement, and this particular micro-rotor (which is half the diameter of a regular one) is located just above the balance co.ck and completely obscured by the chronograph bridge and a plate.
  22. TELL me where to buy one! (But do it *quietly*...)
  23. I completely missed this thread resurrection. Glad it's still being read! I still have the Carrera and I still love it. I just need a few hundred bucks so I can have it serviced by the Heuer master in Belgium.
  24. Yes, I'm happy to say that one is mine!
  25. Great shots of a beautiful watch, but why isn't this in the Omega section?
