Hi folks, So some of you may have seen my thread a while ago about looking for a Staking Tool book called "The Watchmakers Staking Tool" by George G. Luccina & Archie B. Perkins. Well, thanks to some helpful members here, I managed to pick up a new re-print of the book for $33.00 shipped. For anyone who is thinking about entering the world of watch repair and or watch making, a Staking Tool Set is a MUST have. Along with the tool set, this book is a valuable addition to the hobbyist tool arsenal. It is very informative and helpful. For the first set of tips & tricks, I will show you the two most important tools in the Staking Tool set. Shown in the picture above are two tools. The one on the left is called the Die Set Punch. This tool is NOT to be used as a regular punch! It is a very crucial punch and using it for anything other than its intended use is not recommended. The only use for this punch is to center up the different holes in the die plate when they are to be used for various staking jobs. This is a special precision ground punch and its only use is to center up the holes on the die plate. Below are some photos of the Die Set Punch in use: The second tool, pictured in the first picture on the right side is called a Punch Lifter (or Extractor). This device is used to remove punches from their holes in the Staking Tool box. Without this device, the punches would have to be removed from the box with the fingers. It is somewhat difficult to grasp a punch with the fingers for removal. Also, if punches are removed with the fingers, there is a danger of getting perspiration on the punches which could cause them to rust. Below are some pictures of the Punch Lifter in use: One last tip: when using the punches in a Staking Tool set, it is highly recommended that you use a brass hammer. If you try to use a steel one, you run the risk of deforming the punch making it difficult if not impossible to use accurately. The Staking Tool Set is arguably one of the most important tools you can purchase, and if handled with some care and consideration, you can enjoy years of use out of it! Ok anyone who's on the fence about this book - jump now! This book is excellent! An absolute must have if you own, or plan to own a staking tool set!!! Book arrived today and since it is a reprint, it is pristine! The copy is well printed and full of fantastic information as well as great pictorials of how each punch and stump works and the uses that they have! They even have a section on mounting hands on a dial with a staking set! For $33.00 shipped to US or Canada, you cannot go wrong with this one!

Anyone have one? I'm looking to get one of these but in the meantime I'd like to have a read through the manual so I can study up on it!

Hmmm......where to begin I'd say one big mistake I made was trying to dismantle a noobmariner. The bezel assembly is unlike any other rep out there. It is really stuck on there. I spent $150.00 on a really, really good bezel remover and went to town. Man did I ever f-up that bezel! It bent in so many ways, the gen insert popped out and I have yet to be able to get it straight and true. I thought, ok, first attempts don't always turn out. I tried ordering a replacement bezel from another member. It came bent as well. Got another noob case with the bezel attached but no insert. Tried to install the modded gen insert on that bezel. No luck I thought, ok well now I know how to use the bezel remover a little better so I'll give this another go. No luck again. Bent another one! Another mistake - selling my Rocket Dial Cartier Santos 100 I miss that watch

Hi there. Unfortunately, I would say that the multi-effects rigs are very similar to the plug-ins.......not quite there yet. I have yet to hear a multi-effects rig sound good in the effects loop of any combo amp. To me they are just too digital and don't have that "wow" factor that the individual and really well made separate pedals have. I have worked in the recording industry for many, many years, and the best of the best guitar players all had individual pedals for each "sound" they were trying to achieve. A few times guys would come into the studio with a LIne 6 Pod and always complain that the recordings didn't sound quite right. One of my co-workers had an Eleven Rack for a while and he said it sounded pretty good, but still not there yet. There was too much latency in the box (even though Digidesign claims that it has nearly no latency) and he said it just didn't feel right. I realize that doesn't really help, but i guess the bottom line is - like replica watches, the effects boxes are good, but not great. Just my 0.02
