  1. Good observation! The watch does sit a bit tight- We tried removing one of the links and replacing with a link and a half; the result was a bit too loose. She needs like a link and a quarter to be just right. Due to the weight of the watch, she felt it was better to go a bit snug rather than loose and flopping around. So, I adjusted to her preference Thanks, by the way, for your recommendation on the listing. Your's was one of the posts that helped me make up my mind to give it a try...
  2. Don't worry... It's there. Lani- I'm with you on the Sunday selection!
  3. Sat- Jimmy'd, kruzer'd and FGD'd Pre-A 002
  4. I have it on good authority that if kruzer is able to get his going, it will be an amazing piece!
  5. That's a beautiful SMP chrono! Very well done and very interesting back ground to go with it. In my opinion it's pieces like this, with some history, that define keepers (and not so much whether they're rep or gen). Congrats to a great watch
  6. I know of a gen UTC (minus bracelet) for sale @ $500 or so... Seems a bit pricey for a small little quartz module to latch onto the lugs, though maybe not as expensive as buying the full on complete module + bracelet. Have you tried a WTB on TZ?
  7. Personally, my horological journey started with gens... But only because I didn't know any better. It was when I was searching for ways to build a DateJust some many years ago that I stumbled across the old RWG and TRC, and the rest has been downhill from there For me, the fun in watches has been about building. The search and hunt for parts, the trial and error process of building to see what works and what doesn't and the 'hands on' aspect of building... That's what makes the hobby interesting to me. However, with vintage Rolex, you can more or less go down that same path. Parallel projects of restoring with original parts, be it to replace worn bits with those in better condition, to replace aftermarket or even newer RSC replacement parts or simply just finding that grail... It's a very similar hobby in that regard. Both are rewarding in their own right but it really depends on what you want out of it as there is no general wrong or right blanket answer for everyone.
  8. Answer: Who cares? If you want an accurate dial face, go buy a gen.
  9. I'm very curious to see pics! Based on the description, it sounds like it will be a beauty! However... I am unaware of being able to plate in white gold. Do you really mean that it will be rhodium plated?
  10. One thing is for sure... That yellow dial just POPS!
  11. The TG is nice, but the cheeseball TOP GUN logo on the side of the case kills it for me Otherwise, that would be one I'd add to the collection as well... Cause I really like everything else about it...
  12. I've experienced the same- G10 + thick, bulky Breitling = nice comfortable fit I wear my Blacksteel on my grey G10. I've yet to want to change back to the rubber strap...
  13. Heh... Yeah, I've given that idea a thought or two at one point or another; only thing is that I like my vintage pieces to look like well cared for vintage piece, and not destroyed vintage pieces
  14. Thanks, fellers! Indeed... Mrs. Ubi is quite happy, although she did note that the larger watch does take some getting used to- Mostly with the weight. It's quite a bit heavier than her other watches... But, I have to say, she looks quite good with it on! She is a slight bit curious about the 33mm model, but I think the 38mm is proportioned nicely. As with anything, I think it's just a matter of adjustment At any rate, I do agree- This is the perfect chick watch... Very fashionable, looks great on a feminine wrist and scratchproof! I admit- I tried it on prior to sizing... Just didn't look right, but I think the black dial/case/bracelet might be more suiting for the guys. And kruz- I'm with you 100%! The missus is indeed a one of a kind keeper! Not only does she put up with my ass, but she also supports my watch addiction. I think she might have a budding watch addiction of her own, however... We'll see. 'Hot Teri' says hello... Cheers! R
  15. cskent- I'm hopeful they make the black/white one as well. That's my preference of this model. However, the one I REALLY want them to make is the vintage Aquatimer...
  16. Haha... I dunno why, but lately, I have not been paying attention to hands! Well, at least not the shape. I spent more time looking at the lume that I completely missed it, and eddog makes a very valid point- The shape of hands is a bit off. I see exactly what he's pointed out about the tail of the seconds hand. Not entirely sure I agree with the statement on the finish of the hands, though; polished is fine and I have seen genuine hands finished in this manner. NOS: Funny how sometimes we look so closely to some of the details that others get overlooked...`
  17. Hmmm... Datewheels would be an easy fix for the black/yellow... Much easier than subdials for the blue...
  18. From time to time, I tend to look for watches for my better half; she doesn't appreciate watches in the same manner that I do, but she's slowly finding that having a watch is a necessity for daily living. A few years back, I had picked up an old TW Best Ladies' DJ for my wifey; I wanted to test the waters to see how she liked such a watch, and to also see how she'd do with it. If it worked out, I'd get her a gen. Well, in less than a month, she managed to transform a brand new watch into one that appeared to be several decades old Still not sure how exactly that happens... But I made up my mind real quick regarding the gen So, I started to look for a Ladies' 33mm ceramic J12; the scratch proof finish seemed to be just what the dr. ordered. I searched every now and then... When I'd remember to look The idea kind of drifted to the back of my mind for a while where the thought went dormant... Until recently when I saw a nice white 38mm J12 in the trading forum by member 'dodger'. I was a bit unsure about the 38mm size; my wife is not typically one to go for larger watches. But, after considering the idea a bit and discussing with the Mrs., showing her pics, and having her try on some watches of similar size, we decided to give it a try and parted cash for product. After a short wait (to which my better half actually admitted to being quite excited about the incoming prize), a box arrived on the door step. Cracked it open to find a Chanel box, some booklets and finally the important contents... A Mrs. Ubi worn pic... Impressions... VERY nice watch! Very significant feel, weight... Nicely finished surfaces, edges and details. Out of curiosity along with some skepticism, I tested one of the links for the scratchproof properties by inflicting numerous strikes with sharp objects... Serrated, rough, jagged edges... I am amazed. Not a scratch. I think she can handle this one Sizing was a breeze... And Mrs. Ubi is quite pleased. When Mrs. Ubi is happy... Well, Ubi is too, then! Thanks for looking! R
  19. George, Are there any local community centers in which you can volunteer your time to teach chess? That might provide you an outlet to teach and mentor, but with the understanding up front by faculty as to what will be taking place. If the understanding is there from the start, I think you'll have better success
  20. Those lugs look good to me! Nice, squat, chunky and blocky. Good when it comes to Pre-V cases; bad when it comes to prom dates. The other side of the lugs may be difficult indeed to drill out. But I'm sure you can handle that...
