I suppose that in Zig's case, it really helps to be an artist to begin with. Although what he does on watches and what he does on canvas are two very different forms of media, the same level of precision and attention to detail are required for both. However, I am not sure how many painting artists out there could also do what Rob does with relumes and watch work... The man undeniably has talent... We're just lucky to be the recipients of those skills!

I really like Gary quite a lot and I do think he carries some great products. However, the one glaring issue with these hands (in my opinion) is the seconds hand and how short the tail is on it. If you were to mix/match the hour/min hands with a good seconds hand and have them relumed to match, I think you'd end up with a great set of hands. But the cost to do this would be a bit more than the $14.50 bargain...

Nothing like doing it yourself. Great job and it looks fantastic. As for the 2824/2500 compatibility- The 2500 is based on the ETA 2892; the 2892 and the 2824 are both very close siblings with the 2892 superceding the older 2824 design. However you'll find that most movements within the 28xx family range share quite a bit of the same attributes. Hence why several parts can switch over (e.g. datewheel), etc. Congrats on a great looking watch!

The level of precision achieved by the relume is actually quite amazing... Zig does these completely by hand, one little dot at a time. To put things into perspective, imagine doing the same- Tiny little applications of lume, repetitively, all over a relatively small and square surface area while trying to edge around numbers and borders and keeping the overall surface of the lume flat. And all before the lume dries... Also keep in mind that there's practically zero margin for error- I doubt that lume is very forgiving and I'm sure that spares are not easily sourced for the inner bezel.

Just to clarify- Hour and minute hands are keeping time, and the seconds hand is stuck at 12:00? Are you looking at the center seconds, or the small seconds on the 9:00 subdial? The 9:00 subdial is running seconds; i.e. constantly running seconds. The center seconds is the stopwatch seconds. This hand only moves when you have the chronograph engaged with the pusher at 2:00.

Having looked at that dial in person and also retrospectively in pics... I am beginning to lean towards that dial having relumed indicies already. I think you should have the markers relumed to match the NOS hands and add a NOS bezel insert. You'll have a nice, clean example... Just my opinion

Correct. Just give it a good swirling motion with the watch on the palm of your hand- Our resident movement guru likens this to swishing a snifter of fine brandy. Once you see the seconds hand start to move, give it a few more 'swirls'. You can then set the date/time, strap to your wrist and enjoy...

I dunno... That stuff cracks me up and makes it worth buying, to me Kinda like the GELENA SHITINERAND Rolex backs... You can't buy that kind of awesomeness with gens...

I don't believe that he visits or frequents the fora... Phong operates under jewelry and watch; he's got some good products, like cases and hard parts, but movements may be another issue.

I've gone the AS path before (no pun intended for the networking geeks) and note the same as slickdick- Hour and minute hands were a straight fit; the AS seconds hand is .23 instead of .25, I believe (don't recall off the top of my head). My intention was to fit a gen 1570 silver brushed datewheel to this movement, but there wasn't enough clearance to get it to fit. I ended up going with an ETA 2846 instead...

Of course! I expect no less!

I'm hopeful that the rep makers will release a full Trojan-ENZ ribbed-for-her-pleasure rubber coated version of the Galapagos... Full protection for when you're diving in...
