PPN- There have been a couple of folks here that have added lighter color straps to their Chronopassions; usually, it's the AP Bands Lungomare Chocolate shark strap. Defintiely dresses the watch up a little more. However I ended up fitting mine with a genuine AP rubber strap and tang buckle since I'm usually in casual attire At any rate, I wanted to update this thread with a short term update/report from the field... I've been wearing mine at least once a day every day; the finish and surface has held up well for the most part. However I have two tiny hairlines on the side of the lugs (profile of the case; 1:00 side). I had reached back for my seatbelt in the car, and the metal clip of the seatbelt had smacked against the case. My immediate reaction was to check the top surfaces of the bezel as the largest surface area exposed; no dings or scuffs. However, the result was two small hairlines on the side of the lug that are only really visible at certain angles/lighting. It's somewhat disappointing to me as the damage looks similar to a screwdriver blade that had slipped while unscrewing that particular lug screw. The damage is a result of not being careful enough, but it wasn't for being clumsy with tools I'll try and get a shot of it... It's hard to see except when the light is focused on that side of the lugs. Otherwise, the finish has held up great. And the watch is still one of my favorites

Several years back, I used to be of the mind set of preferring heavy patina on my watches. But these days... I like my watches to look like well cared for pieces. So... I let aging take it's course and occur from every day wear. Nothing like natural patina...

J- I'll be sending a datewheel for a caliber 1570, so this would be useful for any 1680, 1665, 1675, 1655, 1600, 1500, etc build. There are a couple of different datewheels/font/printing styles indeed; I'll be sending the most standard of versions (med thick font, open 6/9, closed 26 and flat 3's). If I have some blanks, I'll send them; no need to send me any in return But I still need to go through my parts to see if I have any. For all I know... I may not.

J- I'm sending you a gen DW to use as the basis for a scan. Do you also want some plain, unprinted overlay blanks to go with? I might have one or two (I need to look)...

Offhand, I don't recall if this is a V72 stem; it was in a small baggie labled V72, so I'm going off that. Sorry for the less than stellar pic; it's dark and gloomy outside and the natural light is not great for photos...

The way I look at it... If a small gesture of gifting someone a little metal ring, or a crown or whatever can bring a smile to someone's face... That's worth more to me than whatever I could buy with the money I would have rec'd from selling. Objects... Money... Material items are all nice to have. But those items come and go. Friends... That's a different story!

Glad to help friends when I can. I had that insert left over after changing the one on my 5514- Since I had no plans for it, I figure why not give it to someone who can put it to use? I suppose I could have sold it, I guess... But it's not really about the money. Besides... I think a lot of the perceived value of most parts is beyond ridiculous. Heh... I saw some jackass idiot a few weeks ago trying to sell the very same 6mm Brevet crown on your watch for $1k. I had a good laugh when I saw that one...

That's the mounting point for a movement tab/screw. There's 4 on the V72- One set at the (roughly) 1:00 and 5:00 locations and the others at 2:00 and 8:00. I think the effect of that particular screw hole being level and then recessed is just a matter of perception and camera/image angle. Comparing to the bridge/plate next to it, it maintains it's depth.

Movement looks fine, however I always feel a little more confident buying such things when I can see images of the balance in motion as well as the hands advancing in sequential images. of course, this is no guarantee on time keeping ability, but at least you'll know that the watch runs (which is good indication that if there's anything wrong with the watch's performance, it can likely be resolved with a service/overhaul that hopefully does not require any parts replacement). One other thing to note- You will need some movement tabs to secure the movement into the case you swap it into. Right now, there are some case screws that appear to be locking/holding the movement to that spacer ring... In a 6263/5 case, that ring won't be of any use to you.

NDT is in my opinion the closest to gen out of all the aftermarket dials. That's what I used on Justasgood's and what I recommend to anyone looking to build a 5517 Comparing all details and aspects, the NDT has: -Closest coronet shape to gen -Closest indicies shape to gen -Best font replication -Decent quality circle T The next best option is to go with a genuine dial and have the Circle T applied. But that is a very expensive way to go (and also requires a talented dial printer with the proper capabilities to do the job right). It could turn out to be an expensive endeavor, especially if something goes wrong in the process...

That's a 703, Red. Yours has threads that stop mid-way to accomodate the gasket of a 7030. 702 has threads going all the way to the opening...

I respectfully disagree. If people have the drive and determination to work hard and put forth the effort, then the possibility and potential are all there. The circumstances that you have listed are all for the most part personal choices. One does not deal crack because they have to. They do it because it's easier than doing things the hard way with education and work. Teens oft times get pregnant because they are irresponsible. People decide to go to college to further their education or they decide to pursue a career straight out of high school. People make decisions good and bad every day- With each, a new path in their lives is carved. Those who dwell on misfortune and sit around and pity themselves allow personal stagnation. Those who persevere and get back up after falling down are the ones who succeed. Those are the ones that overcome obstacles and face problems head on; even if someone has those odds against them, that doesn't mean that they can't try. And that's mainly the point I am making. There's no incentive for people in less fortunate situations to try to better themselves. There's no reason to if Uncle Sam sends them a check or food stamps or whatever. After a while, it becomes status quo and from there, an expectation. Personally myself, I couldn't allow myself to live on handouts and freebies. There's no pride in that. I have to know I'm giving it my all. In the end... I know that the only one accountable for my actions is me. And if things aren't going the way they should be, then I have a responsibility to myself and my family to change that. Yes, some people have better luck along the way. Some people catch different breaks. However, one will likely never catch any breaks if they're not out there trying. And there's also times when fate swings in the opposite direction. That's life- Full of ups and downs. What defines a person is how they handle the challenges. Succeed or fail, one cannot fault themselves for at least trying.

I came from nothing... I was on my own at age 15. I've worked hard to get myself where I am today. There is no reason why others cannot do the same. And yes- There is more to life than material wealth. I work hard primarily for my family... Anything material does not define our lives, but it certainly makes things nice.
