  1. ....Oui !
  2. Sorry to hear about your woes,.... but Great post Millwright,.. puts it all back in perspective..
  3. I went from being shocked at the size and bulk of the things, and seeing the dials like crayon drawings from a four year old... to buying a 196, which I thought was the most handsome watch I had owned up to that point.. However I never fell deep and got buried by Pamela, and always continued my quest for 40 to 42mm tool watches, which are my main groove,.. I only own one Pam now, a swiss 212, that I love, but never seem to wear as maybe I feel a bit overdone when sporting it.... and now am thinking about selling it... I think however that I wont purchase another pam until the Mare Nostrum is released.. if ever..
  4. For the wife,... Great ! I purchased a diamond dial, heavy bracelet piece that she's been unable to destroy in six months so far...
  5. Sea Dweller, 100%,... a serious working man's tool watch that has remained that way,.. while the Sub, went the way of the suburban status symbol for the arm holding a starbucks cup... ...just in case of spillage....
  6. RG & RWG,... at their best !
  7. Some naive people here, are attempting to place a retail to customer attitude, into an illegal game of cat & mouse, where every mailing, or notification to paypal is potential for a bust or seizure. Smell that ?? Get your mind, fully around the reality of the situation.. For another perspective that adds fuel to the fire... EL did not want his post, reposted, however it needs to be noticed by more than just a few... I won't point you to it directly,.. however you should be able to find it... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showforum=67 These same sort of scenarios are happening to members who sell as well... The true big picture, is completing the whole circle from member to dealer, to member... Not just half way around.... In other words,... The community is not just the members,.. but our dealers,.. plus,.. how we deal with each other and our toys.... There are some necessities that do come along with this game,..It's a simple fact.. How you deal with them, demonstrates your benefit or detriment to us all.. Some take matters in hand and fix the small problems.. Some find someone else to... Whatever,.. your choice,.. Work it out with whomever you are dealing with...or on your own... but do it quietly, without mail if possible, leaving the board till the last, until there is no other choice...
  8. There is also another side of the coin, a member's ability to identify and handle the every day problems that come with a love of watches... which will demonstrate to a dealer or member if, you are worth dealing with.. This is Not the Mall.... Don't for a moment think that any member, or especially a dealer, will miss a customer who does not pull his own weight, mis-lables and crys wolf, as the cost in shipping, and replacment watches for simple problems is a black hole of waste for any dealer, and at times members.. Now, at this point we don't know for sure if David's problem is complex or simple, however it would help a great deal if he did know, and maybe, we would not wasting the bandwidth or time in this thread.... and Joe would not be coming out of pocket for shipping two additional times and maybe a fee to the fixer.
  9. Glad you found someone to help David, though I personally would not want to get involved, as David would then have two people to hold up, and you Joe, two people to pay. As for the communte, David, 45 minutes for me a a skip down the lane... why not make an afternoon adventure of it..?. I have walked into many shops inquiring about rep work... and most don't care,.. it's the money that matters... Of course, some of it has to do with your attitude, if you act like it's no big deal, then most will follow your lead. Lastly, I say again.. this whole drama with the violins and croc tears about a caseback removal, with rubber gloves, button push with thick needle, stem pull, a few crono buttons to release, turning the case over to allow the movement to fall into a palm, a ball point pen case to secure the hand, then reversing the procedure is boring me to tears.... Did you notice ?? No Tools Mom.... and Five minutes of your time,...
  10. Yes,.. I agree, this would be a fantastic section of a 'for members only forum'....
  11. Wow ! That was a great read TVT,... I have not been to Asia for over 20 years now, but still, the feeling of China was evident throughout your post... It brought me back there again, if only for a moment... You should consider becoming a writer... and I also thank you for your gift of a dream to go back there, and come back with some booty ! The first time there I was green in rep-ology... Hey Cheepoguy, that is a gorgeous Airking,.... too bad there are no serious reps of that model.... or are they ??
  12. Yaaaa ! Well .. the Holiday Season is Officially, Here ! Love the design Admin !
  13. Thanks Deve...
  14. I agree,...please drop the complaint. Though I can feel for you, having a watch way past due with zero communication... Think about the board and how this action will make life much more difficult for the majority. Not to mention that we don't need paypal looking in our direction... it could cause a domino effect through our dealer base.... I would rather lose a watch than put any strain on the community.....
  15. I find it very colorful in a positive sort of way. Would bring on a good mood for sure ! Hey Offshore,.... Fantastic Avatar ! Perfect and makes me green with envy !
  16. I think you are looking for arguments that are not there my friend.... You make the assumption that the seller sent a non working watch on purpose, now expects David to fix it, and that I am somehow agreeing with this notion. This is all in your head.. I'm not ranting rules & responsibilities.....you can set up any of those you so choose, and as long as the buying party agrees,.. then have your party your way. I simply say that if one receives a watch with a problem that is easily remedied, {which is the case more often than not,} it would make more sense, not only from a time and money standpoint to simply take care of it, and move on, but from a view of community, of peace and trust, knowing that if also gives you, when you are the seller, grace of the benefit of the doubt. Anyone can make a stand based on a rules .... i.e. buyers expectations ect.... however, this is not a retail outlet,... we are friends that pass around delicate toys that can get broken or misaligned by numerous factors. Simply a fact of life in this game Thus,.. Knowing the road that you travel...if you choose to dismiss the equipment, that would make your journey so much easier... and subsitute in their place, the board to slander,... paypal to sue,..or even the law.... I say to you, that you are in the wrong place, and should never go on the other side of the fence of being the seller,....otherwise risk falling into the very trap you are shouting into existance...
  17. Snobby is not the word here JTB... Practical, is my sentiment.. Regarding your point about the possibility of ruining your watch if working on it yourself... Yes the risk is there.. as is the reward,... however we are only discussing cheap replicas here,.. not the real deal,.. which, imo, makes perfect sense, not only in a situation such as this but, in the majority of purchases we take on via dealers. Mind you, that I am not speaking of any major work here,... I've not the time, or as you say, the inclination,.. no,.. just the simple things, the easy adjustments that are almost so grade school, that an expert would look at you sideways if you were to bring it to him, but be glad that you did, so he can spend a minute and make a pocket full, all the while laughing inside.... My main point however is what seems like a growing mall mentality that spreads unrealistic expectations into a game where the rules are of a sort that keep us together as a community in as much harmony as we can obtain without anyone feeling stepped upon, or called out prematurely.
  18. First of all,.. watch your language.. I have always been respectful to you, though I have had many instances not to. As for tools, you can spend less than $50 on all the tools you will ever need....Quite a bit less that you fret away on watches weekly. As to why I am taking sides, as you say... I am finally full up with negative, fretful, complaining, like screaming brats that we have to babysit all day long, replacing their pacifiers, and changing their diapers to keep them happy, otherwise they will scream at the top of their lungs to paypal and the authorities to take us all away in the paddy wagon... You may have a legit problem with your seller,.. but maybe not,.. in either case however you are premature in your crying.... As for your Iwc.. what interest do you imagine that information is to me ?
  19. From the description of the problem, stopping on the same numbers each time, it does not sound like a 'floppy arm' situation to me, however if it is, then yes, requires an expert fix, thus a refund,,.. Otherwise it can be adjusted by anyone with two operating hands and at least one eye, and imo, should not be the responsibility of a seller, who seems to me to be honest. I would not even bother a dealer under such a circumstance, let alone a private seller. I think we need to make allowances with our hobby, and each other, that go even beyond genuine, which as we all know come with many of the same problems we experience with reps. Not to do so is opening doors to many, many more complaints and fights between our members which will deteriorate the atmosphere of our little community an ugly thread at a time, while in this case alerting paypal to snoop into our windows... From what was said about those who refuse to open their watches,.... to each their own.. however I find it an attitude that is self defeating to a small degree and limiting to a large degree, especially for a replica enthusiast. Lastly, I personally get frustrated with the notion of people who expect perfection, but fail to see that the responsibility for their vision must be a personal goal that is gained by sweat, either theirs of someone elses. Because our watches come in, either as projects, or as imperfect dogs that we learn to love. Which brings me to the comment by the watch repair/mod person,.... Need I say more...??
  20. Nice report,.... Looks like EL is gaining ground... The alignment problem can be taken care of when you remove the dust particle, then you will have a perfect example....Good for You !
  21. Well, from reading his reply, it doesn't sound like he sent the watch damaged.. As a matter of fact, personally I don't consider it broken, but just needs an adjustment. I would suggest David, to the watch enthusiast that you evidently are, to trust in yourself enough to tackle simple fixes such as these, as it will go a long way in keeping you happy in this game of replicas where such triffles are common. If not, why not just sell it to someone else who will....? I personally don't think it enough to burn a bridge or start a fight with an established member.... do you ? All imo.. of course....
  22. Deep scratches ?? Who did you end up ordering from ?
  23. Hi, Sorry to hear that,... if you ordered from Jay however you will receive the full watch replacement, vs just the dial. Keep us posted on the status....
  24. I like that as well... should be an easy replicate.... Anyone else...?
  25. Great Choice... I vote for that !
