  1. Guys, FYI here is a shot of my gen 3717 (from an IWC AD) next to an all-rep one on the left.
  2. With the Cape Cod, the cloths are a bit rough, so to get a finer finish you can just use the liquid, dab at it with a microfibre cloth and then use that to polish the area.
  3. "Opinions are like a$$holes. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks!"
  4. Yes - a lot of Spanish people get the month of August off and spend most of that time on the beach. Francisco is probably baking on one of those beautiful beaches, far away from his watches, not even thinking about his e-mail!!
  5. Some of them even claim to be getting the AR done by the same factory as Swiss brands. Sounds like good old marketing hype to me.
  6. Plaifender, I agree - well spotted. Lots of misinformation around these new IWC TopGun reps. But the dealers probably like it this way, especially since they've just released basically the same old TG v1 44mm with a teeny bit more lume and of course grabbed the opportunity to hike up the price accordingly. MAkes business sense for them to mix up model numbers and get everyone thinking they're all new releases.
  7. Doppel's looking good, how's the rep strap Lobster? As good as the TG V2 one or even better maybe?
  8. But this ceramic case is lighter, more scratch-resistant (& stealthier!) than SS, I've only heard of a TG case breaking when it falls right on a lug - quite a rare event. Anyway - I have a TG 44mm V1 with V2 dial, Swiss ETA7750 and new AR - it's a beauty and I recommend it highly. Especially when combined with a thick leather strap, it's
  9. Just watched this documentary "Last Train Home"on migrant workers in China, and Guangzhou in particular. A bit of background into where all those watches we enjoy come from. From Wikipedia: Every spring, China's cities are plunged into chaos as 130 million migrant workers travel back to their home villages for the New Year's holiday. This mass exodus is the world's largest human migration, an epic spectacle that exposes a nation tragically caught between its rural past and industrial future. Working over several years in classic cinéma vérité style, director Lixin Fan travelled with one couple who have embarked on this annual trek for almost two decades. ...Emotionally charged and starkly beautiful, Last Train Home examines one fractured family to shed light on the human cost of China's ascendence as an economic superpower.
  10. Don't see the point of getting a rep of a $500 watch, no matter what. Almost like getting a fake G-Shock, why do people bother?!
  11. I wouldn't buy a genuine croc strap from my rep dealer. I'd go for the basic strap option and then buy straps aftermarket. Plenty of amazing strap makers around that will keep you happy.
  12. Both the 111 and 177 are great. For your first PAM I'd go for the 111 or 005. Or the 177 if you like titanium - you'll be pleasantly surprised by how light the watch is in comparison to the steel PAMs, it's a great summer watch. Good luck!
  13. The big boys had a few last pieces in last week from the maker (according to Josh), but they're all gone now. Still haven't made up my mind whether I like the 2006 Cousteau or the Slevin better. Both reps rank way up there though, amazing watches. From reviews it seems like the 2006 Cousteau just edges the Slevin in quality.
  14. And please could someone also tell me where I could buy the best Sub? Many thanks.
  15. GUYS - back on topic please - let's take a moment to listen to this English guy's rant about the riots http://youtu.be/9pAC0YSmK0g. I don't agree with all of what he says but he gets it right on many counts. I think it helps if you're English or have lived in the UK to understand the variety of the issues behind the riots.
  16. Remember the IWC Deep One? Launched in 1999. IWC does have some history in this category.
  17. TopGun V2 is the best version 'kevlar' strap, Pentax1 you could use one of those as a sample for your maker. I'd be in for one!
  18. Short answer on the 3706 would be no, unfortunately. The 3717 is a great rep though, esp. if you can spring for a gen dial later.
  19. Sacrilege - a Diver on leather... but it looks so good!
  20. Mods do us a favor and lock this thread down
  21. New release from IWC - Ingenieur Double Chrono in titanium. 45mm with blue accents. Looks hot!
  22. I agree on some of the points raised, especially the fact that maybe the world of reps and therefore the forum itself has gone more mainstream - it's more about people's addiction to brands than love of watches and of tinkering with tiny mechanisms. Though we want to be careful of using the same tone as "In my day we had to walk to school uphill both ways, in 10 feet of snow, we didn't have electricity... yada yada yada"
  23. Yeah the Seikos and Citizens have to get a mention... nice pics! What about this one from Citizen, the Promaster Ti "Ray Mears", a nice clean design:
  24. The recent release of the rep Panerai PAM177M got me thinking - what other great titanium reps are out there? (pics are of gens!) Some of my favorites include the classic IWC 3707 (GST Chrono): IWC Ingenieur Ti: Audemars Piguet ROO Chronopassion: Another nice new rep release is the Porsche Diver, but I haven't seen many details of it yet: Any others I'm missing? Let's see your choices!
