I'm not really that surprised. If we look at the nice pictures on repdealers websites, we tend to forget that there is a reason why a high end gen costs more than a rep of the same model. It's not all marketing cost, labor cost and high markups. While the quality of reps has increased a lot over the last few years, a side-by-side will allways be a reality check. There are things like exact dimensions, CG shape or matte vs shiny dial. I'm not talking about those replication issues. I'm talking about quality of workmanship and material used. Take the insert: on the gen the numerals are filled with platinum, not paint like on the rep. Take the steel: high end 904L vs "who knows what". Take Finish and QC to ensure the watch is waterproof to 3900meters vs "I am sure I can shower with it after I mod the HE valve, grease the gaskets and tighten the caseback..." I enjoy my V3 DSSD. But at a price that is less than the cost to replace the insert on the gen, I don't expect it to be an exact duplicate of an 8.500$ watch.

I think you really did a great job on this watch. Most first attempts at modding end in ruined watches.

I bought mine from PT (Precious Time), but I am sure that Andrew, Josh, Angus et al have it as well. The general consensus is: choose your seller first and then ask him for the watch. Write the dealer of your choice a mail and tell him exactly what you want..

With reps, it is pretty much like with computers. By the time you take your new, superfast machine home, the next generation is already being advertised. So, unless your patient enough to wait...and wait... and wait for the "super" "duper" "ultimate" "best" "1:1" version to come out and then realize that this watch is yesterday's news, pull the trigger. The current "best" is the V3 DSSD, "swiss" eta, with 2 piece caseback. It still has minor flaws (like every rep) but most of them can 1. be cured by minor modding 2. will in the real world only be seen by a handful of people. Who knows, by the time V4 or 5 comes out, you might have your eyes on a completely different watch.

Afaik there is no secret "ultimate" version of the 239. For whatever reason it seems not to be a hot seller. Take one from the ususal, re-lume, service, datewheel and crown and you're good to go...

Every single Rolex movement is COSC tested and only if it passes, it is being used in a watch. Therefore, new gen Rolex watches are pretty accurate in keeping time. As anything mechanical, a movement needs some tlc every now and then in order to maintain it's performance level. If you don't service your movement after a couple of years, chances are, it's performance will suffer.

One more thing to keep in mind is that manufacturing quality and QC in the rep world does not compare to gen manufacturers. This means that one waterproof DRSD does not neccessarily mean that all DRSD are as well - it just means that the general construction in theory is good enough. Your milage may vary... If you want peace of mind, have your individual watch tested.

Why can't you remove the links that cover the clasp? Once you reattach the remaining bracelett, the clasp would be covered again.
