... I wanted to post a pic and found out that strangely enough, this is probably my only rep of which I don't havy any picture at hand.
... aside from that - forget the lume, there is none. The hour markers are white paint, no glow. In a certain way this is accurate for a vintage watch as the original luminous compound on a gen would have died quite some time ago.
I remember Ziggmeister's post about the relume job he did on the Cousteau. He said that it was one of the most difficult he ever did.... and mind you, we're talking about the undisputed master of reluming...
I strongly suggest you practice on something else before you board this ship....
I've been riding for the past 30 years... lot's of bikes... Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Ducati, Bimota.... choppers, naked bikes, sports bikes. At one point, I had three bikes at the same time -one for daily, one for weekend, one for racetrack.
If lume is important to you, have the watch relumed. Standard rep lume is mostly crap anyway. My (grey dial) ss Flat Six has lume but it is lightyears away from my modded (The Zigmeisterfied) 111H.
AFAIK the sec@12 case is contructed just like the gen and because of that, it can't be solid rubber. The screws you see on the bezel go all the way through the case and are fixed on the caseback with corresponding nuts. The force on these screws would pull them through the rubber.
Hi kruzer00,
let's see if someone can confirm on the new bezel. I tried to find a picture which makes it easier to compare the gen/rep bezel. Light and angle make it difficult to compare but here we go:
In any case, the difference (if any) is such that only a WIS in an extensive side-by-side will find them.
If you only want to open this particular watch, do as Offshore said, ask a (rep-friendly) watchmaker. If you plan on doing this more often, there are cheaper versions of specialized openers for Rolex available on the Bay. It does not have to be Bergeon, although their tools are worth every penny.
