Probably as good as it gets with an $1100 budget.[emoji6]

I have both his 7016 and 7021 cases and they are perhaps the best aftermarket case for the vintage Tudor out there. Phong typically uses ETA 2789 movements which are the last iteration of the 2784 that Tudor originally used in the 9401 and 9411. The later 7016 used a 2783 which was the 2784 with no date. The place where I feel Phong could improve is in the area of his handset and dial. The hands are out of proportion when compared to gen. Hour and minute hands too fat and the second hand diamond falls in the wrong place. Tail of the second hand is also tapered out too wide in the back. Remember that Tudor offered three dial versions during the life of the 7016. Pre 1968 the rose dial like the 7928 was available and later the shild dial with roung indices and also the snowflake. This really opens up your available options when searching for a gen dial. (They are becoming rare) The dial is nice enough but this case calls for a gen dial or at least a MQ for sure. Add to that a set of onlinestorehk hands, gen 703, gen T19, gen insert, gen bracelet and you have a real winner! In the end you will still have half the cost of buying a gen in the watch. So considering all the above would I buy the Phong? Yes! I have two of them and if there was a third vintage Tudor I had an urge to build I would buy another. Here are a few pics of my 7021 build which is the same case but with 7021 engraving. The bezel is the Clark watch parts bezel. Dail, crown, 93150 bracelet and endlinks are gen. 2784 movement sourced as NOS and serviced by Misekped. Cost to reproduce $2500-3000. (Depends greatly on dial and phong case cost) I guess I could have just said buy one you will love it! Yes it looks like a 703. The one on the middle looks rep to me. The side profile and thickness on the right looks more gen or possibly TC. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk Here is a gen 704 to compare...

My guess is left to right 703 704 704 Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk The 703 is clad and has a broken stem in it. The 704's are monoblock. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

Not sure what was censored above. I thought I had typed [censored] but maybe something autocorrected to something else. In any case my apologies if I posted something inappropriate. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk Weird, it did it again. Why is a word that starts with fl and ends with ange censored? Anyway, here is a pic of a 702 tube for the op. A pic is worth a 1000 censored words. Haha I defer to the expert on gen rolex bits dbane would certainly know.[emoji106]

Maybe a 703? I have installed several vintage 703 crowns on my MBWs, JKFs and Vietnam cases and have had to put 7030 tubes in for them. The 702 crowns require a 7020 where the threads are closer to the case and the tube has a taller [censored] above the threads. So threads up in the crown 703. Threads close to the edge of the crown 702. Both tubes are available from clark for a inexpensive price on the bay. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

Sorry brother M its been gone a while now...

These are both built using TC as the base. I will watch out for you one.

DH I have used both the ST and TC midcases for 16800 builds. Personally I prefer the TC and send the case tobJMB to have the lugs drilled though. To me the ST lugs seem stubby. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

Are Mbws Really The Best Right Out Of The Box?
hugop replied to crystalcranium's topic in The Rolex Area
Wow! 10 year old blast from the past thread! Nice one to revive for a bit. Funny that we are still having these discussions about MBW and vintage Rolli's. This is still pertinent today considering the resurfacing of the cache of old MBW's that@rolexfinder has made available this year. MBW accuracy is still like it always was but we do not often see genuine examples of these great old watches in the wild anymore. Their stratospheric prices have locked them away into safes all over the world. So I will leave just this one main thought. I get to enjoy this every day if I wish. I don't have to worry that I will loose a fortune if it is lost, damaged, or stolen. Thanks for that MBW.[emoji6] -
Looks like to me. Crown guard wrong side up, cannon pin recessed under minute hand, no Y incablock, no "Panerai Panerai Panerai" engraving on bridges, gold lettering is also absent, lugs look stubby... Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk

Sacsah1 dont be upset but your builds are just behind because I have been keeping him busy. Mike IS my personal watch smith! Bahahaha Really all kidding aside, Mike does move things along at a good pace. The man is a factory! Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk

+1 on Mike's work. You can't go wrong with him. If you are planning on finishing that 1680 of yours then he is definitely your choice! He knows that 1570 movement inside out! Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk

Time for Richmont to pull out all the stops and relaunch the 201a and 202a! -

DH, I have milled the edge for the spring off on a cheap 1655 to use a gen plexi in a 1675 build. It is very difficult to get perfect! Do yourself a favor and grab up a TC case to move it into. $250 well spent. It will come with the extremely nice TC bezel assembly that will take the gen insert. You also get the benefit of very nice crown guards. -
Built from all gen parts including a serialized case and 1120 movement. The dial patina gives it some great character. [emoji6]
