That dial is actully quite good. Mihn is pretty accurate. Correct tail on m, correct ft font, wide oval zeros, nice serifs on the submariner text...this is not the same dial as above though D. I would like to have one of MQ's dials myself.

Doc if that is the Cartel 1655 it is a great base to mod to a 1675 GMT. On the Cartel the dial is usually marked Swiss T25 though and is 26mm so this may not be...
-
Yep...

The 16800 is a great reference especially with the early style lume plots. Mine gets a ton of wear. Unfortunately it is a later model with the marker surrounds. Still it isc a lughole case with sapphire crystal and is able to retain a vintage feel to it. Especially in a world of ceramic inserts!

Superb! Great find droptopman! When you first posted pics of this I did not expect to see this outcome. Mike does some incredible work! Be sure and do a nice photo shoot when it returns. I am sure many of us would appreciate a great reference series. -Hugo

Agonzca since I have not had any experience with the MBW 1665 I will have to bow to those who have. I agree with Alligoat re the brown dial. It will be a great build! Alligoat it is great to know that the 1665 is gen spec in regard to the dial. I have read that the crown tube and rehaut will accept gen pieces too.
-
Agonzca if I am not mistaken the MBW 1665 has a rehaut milled for a 26mm dial. A gen 1665 dial is 26.5. Considering this the case will have to have some work to receive the larger gen dial. I have one of the MBW 1680 single reds on the way too and it will require the same mod. Slay has done one in tropical parts using one of the Vietnam dials I think. Check his post for furter info on how he resolved this. Here is the link to Slay's MBW 1680 red. http://rwg.cc/index.php?/topic/181904-Very-Tropical-MBW-Rlx-1680-Red-Sub

No tail on the m, font wrong on the 660ft, 0's are the wrong shape, SUBMARINER font too fat. My vote is rep.

In regard to the bit speed. I have had good success with stainless cases using HSS bits and my drill press set to 600rpm. There is quite a lot of posts on the net discussing bit speed and different materials. Beautiful result with the insert/dial match!

Nice work Fitch! This is so different and fun to see.@Rolli - again another beautiful result. Great work from both of you. Thanks for sharing this beauty.

Lock on to the broken stem with pliers. Would require there was enough sticking up to grab onto. Probably best to have new stem and crown. You can remove case swirlies with a cape cod. If you use cape cod on Crystal it will remove any AR coatings. Often the scratches you see in the crystal are actually scratches in the AR coating. Sometimes if mine are beat up enough I just remove the coating but be warned, it is time consuming and hard to get off. Find a cheap practice dial to hone your luming skills on you will be much happier with the results once you have mastered the skill. Best of luck!
-
That one looks like 7750 and yes the broken stem will have to be extracted from the movement and replaced. The crown will have to be replaced unless you can lock on to the broken stem and get it back out of the crown. It does not look as though there is enough of the stem sticking up to lock on to.

Happy new year from me also Rolli!

I am also interested in the engraving as well. Grim could you include me in that info also?

PAM087 Submersible 1000m (from Trustytime) ***pictorial review***
hugop replied to mike00's topic in The Panerai Area
Mike you should feel sorry for all us poor souls who dont yet have this one! Great pics and that dial surface is amazing! -
I have to sell down some of the Pams to make room for the 087. I listed my Steven Dexter 202a on another forum a week or so ago but it hasn't sold. When it goes the 087 can be ordered.
-
Kilo you will love the Vespucci! I regret not buying Rolli's 082 dial when I had the chance but c'est la vie...maybe one will fall out of the sky someday. I am very happy with the new DSN dial. The surface color is unique, beautiful and constantly changing. I did opt for the engraved case back, Sead Ti A-F cg and DSN hand set. Keep us in the loop as you build it. The 036, 082, and 243 have became my top choices to wear from Panerai. I am thinking I want a 087 too though...

Congratulations AGONZCA on owning such an amazing franken! Also a shout out to Grimlocktime. M you have developed mad skills in the curation and building of franken Panerai! Lastly yes I am one of those lucky few who own a Rolli 036 dial (thanks to Grim) but AGONZCA's watch is at a whole different level altogether!
-
Congratulations Kilo, your 036 is well worth every minute/$ you put in! Really great result! I am glad you were able to find one. The color is really something very special. I have also built Rolli's fantastic dial into my own 036. At present she lives in a Ti case without engraving but I have the engraved case in waiting for a complete disassembly/rebrush and replacement of the crown tube. Even in the temporary case the dial takes the build to a whole different level than other Pam reps. Here is a quick pic of mine. (Nowhere near your photo quality but you can still see the beauty of that great dial!)

Would look great with vintage lume and a coat ot TS-79 Dang it! You have me thinking that I want to convert this one now.
-
It is amazing to think of all the places that case might have seen. It also make me wonder what ever became of Dewey. It looks like the watch spent a major portion of its life being well used by him or maybe it was used to get him out of hoc. Would be really cool to know more of the back story after Burma.
-
The serifs on that dial are wonderful! Great find here, I would love to find one of these. Keep us posted.
-
It did come from Andrew. Support had been super from him. I had an initial issue with the movement and he had it resolved in a very short time.
-
Nice one DH! Did you buy the version with asian 7750? I bought the 049 with A7750 and installed a gen dial for my wifes birthday this year. I am thrilled with the way it turned out. I am glad to see the factories bringing the 40's back.

Sneak Peak of the Gen Pre-v Dial Study: The Lacquer Filled Indices
hugop replied to Grimlocktime's topic in The Panerai Area
Very interesting and informative post from some of the best pre-v experts on the forums. Thanks especially to Grim and Southy for sharing info that took a great deal of time and research to uncover!
