  1. I was think of the old adage poor man pays twice rings true in relation to reps. Things like the tc sub are a great thing. But most of us have bought a sub rep before the tc came out and will probably buy more in the future. You only pay once with a gen.
  2. If you own a gen rolex and have dealt with your local service centre you will understand the difference. The customer service and treatment I have received from Rolex in Sydney is worlds apart from anything I have received elsewhere. I have been to swatch with gen Tissot and Omegas I have stood in queues with dozens of other people at tag heuer. In my eyes you would only buy Rolex or Tudor although I have started to appreciate some of the older panerais. The service at Rolex is the defining factor. Although I'm not interested in any of their new models at the moment With a rep when you have problems you are faced with the dilemma of who can you get to fix it. I have so many watches that are sitting in the drawer not working for this reason. There is nobody I know of that will fix my issues in Australia. I have tried one of the popular repairers from this forum and still have a paperweight but one that just cost me a shitload ofmoney to have it sitting round not working.
  3. I've been involved in something like this on another forum. They took a $50 deposit and had the opportunity to pre order at a set price. Once the product was produced the pre orders were satisfied and any extras that were built were sold at a higher price. I'm sure if you offered people a case set for $400 on a pre order there would be plenty of people sending you a $50 deposit.
  4. If I wanted a bracelet I would walk in with a gen watch on a $5 rubber strap, and tell them the bracelet broke. I'm sure they would sell to you
  5. Reminds me of that song about a [censored] in a box. Could wrap up a box stick your [censored] inside with the watch around it. This vid even has instructions http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=youtube%20dick%20in%20a%20box&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&ved=0CDwQtwIwAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DWhwbxEfy7fg&ei=HSgOUdegMuisiAfkkICIBQ&usg=AFQjCNEVWkkmVCxslavCk9fEUvLInYhL9g&bvm=bv.41867550,d.aGc
  6. I dream of having a working 7032, Your nice pics make me jealous. I agree about WR. It shouldn't be too hard
  7. I was honestly considering swapping in a quartz movement in the hope that she would wear it more. I have tried my best with my little daughter to make sure she has some exposure to the older things in the world, She is just gone 20 months old but has the dexterity to wind a manual clock and enjoys the sound of a mechanical movement. I gave her a pocket watch with a chain that looks very flava flav on her. Whereas the wife would say that an old mechanical watch was too noisy I am looking for a vintage wind up clock for her room in the hope she will appreciate these items in the future, I worry for the next generation, they seem to lose an understanding of how we came to where we are in the world. I have tried to avoid her exposure to the technologies that are voiding the need for human interaction.
  8. I gave my wife a Rolex, she doesn't wear it. Prefers a DKNY quartz powered watch I bought for her years ago. I was going to suggest the service pouches or a "coffin" you know the boxes they ship new rolexs in.I have gifted frankens in service pouches and these shipping boxes alike. Always well received.
  9. I only paid $45AUD on the first sub rep i bought.that was nearly 6 years ago and whilst the bezel insert fell out last year. The thing is still running. Although its ability to keep time has diminished it still only looses about 10 minutes a day. I thought about upgrading it when I first found RWG but at the time the Aussie dollar had gone over parity with the USD and I was offered a gen 16610LV for a little over $4500 AUD from a guy in the US I thought that was a bargain and pulled the trigger. I took it straight to the Rolex service centre for authentication and it came back all good. I've owned the gen for over 4 years but I cannot throw away the $45 rep. I actually bought two at the time because I liked the green bezel but didn't know if I would like it in real life but thats the watch I kept giving the other to a friend and his still runs as well
  10. I thought 100% gen. A rep 93150 that looked like this would sell like hot cakes.
  11. Thank you... for saving me some money I appreciate your effort in putting this together.
  12. I ended up replacing the crown. The threads on the stem were in good order. The crown was supplied by the watchmaker but I suspect it is from DW although the tube for it is completely different to one on a DW daytona case set I bought. I had to remove the movement from the case and retap the thread and fit a new tube but I had some gen 703 tubes and 1 crown in the parts draw so it was ok. I used my basic waterproofing test which is just fitting off the case with a piece of tissue paper in place of the dial and movement and dropping it in a glass of water. You can usually see the trail of where the water is leaking from if it leaks. Both pushers were leaking. There were no o rings visible inside the case Again the pushers are different to the ones in the DW daytona case I had. Although they look the same as the daytona ones externally. They are different inside and are different to the clarks and gen ones as well. So I've got no idea if I could just buy some orings or whether I should buy some new pushers to get some o rings. So I am starting to think the best thing to do would be to buy another case from DW off Ebay. I'm still waiting for a reply from the watchmaker. I'm so [censored] off because of the time frame and throughout the communication he was always there was a problem with this or that I need to wait for parts etc etc
  13. Yeah I did end up removing the crown and it wasn't as though it was stripped as though it slipped unless you were holding outward tension on it. I don't have another crown to suit the tube so I thought I would need to decase the movement to fit a new tube.
  14. I'm actually feeling a little bit silly, I'm starting to think that there are no internal issues. I have a funny feeling that all of the issues are related to the crown / stem. When I was wearing the watch I got some fogging on the inside of the crystal. So I figured it isn't waterproof so I ended up taking the caseback off and just watched what happened when I was trying to wind the watch. Most of the time winding the crown wouldn't turn the stem at all. I was thinking that the watchmaker may have a setup to wind these manual watches like a long stem that sits a handle out past the tube to make it easier winding them up. so from his point of view the watch could have been performing fine but I am unable to get a full wind from the watch. The crown was slipping at what I thought was full wind, but then I remembered that the movement didn't slip at full wind it just wouldn't wind any further. its a rep crown / tube and I am motivated to change. Hopeful that this would sort out my problems. But I have no experience in decasing chronograph movements. Does the chronograph gear require removal before decasing the movement?
  15. As an update I ended up sending the watch back to the watchmaker, I got a condescending comment from him about the fact that the watch needs to be wound up. Its not automatic. I just received it back and I still have the same issue. This feels like it has been a 7 month exercise in futility. With their being no outcome. I am now left with the issue of whether to send the watch to somebody else and bury more money into it or just give up. I've emailed the watchmaker and will await his response. Although I don't think the watch will go back to him again and I feel like trying to organise a charge back with my credit card company for the $300 USD I was charged for servicing. Not to mention the shipping costs I have spent sending it back and forth I've never been in this situation before so any tips are appreciated.
  16. hey mate I cant send you any messages.

  17. This is what I think they look like. My understanding is that you need to ream out the spline once installed to allow the crown to screw down. It looks like the rep item does not need this to be done
  18. The best thing about a deep sea is the cool blue lume. I agree that nearly nothing from the current catalogue has the appeal of some of the older models. I'd take the all blue WG sub if I had the disposable income. This has some appeal but not in the same way as some of the earlier models.
  19. Thank you, I'll order one. Will a 700 crown really sell for the $300 I see them advertised for?
  20. I bought a crown that was advertised as a 702 but it has turned up as a 700 crown no dots under the coronet in beautiful condition. I would like to use it but is there any where to source a tube? I have seen on Yuki and phongs site that they advertise a 700 tube, are these any good? Is there any chance of a gen article?
  21. I don't know if you guys have seen this. But the deep sea challenge is available. Need big wrists for this one http://puretime.co/product/sea-dweller-deepsea-challenger/
  22. From my opinion, the logistics of manufacturing this number of dials to hold stock of would be daunting. I'm sure it would be a large investment of time and resource. I think if he did a print run sign up for each style and printed them more one at a time it would happen. Or if we did a vote on the styles that are most wanted and encouraged him to start there? There are a lot of variations, I see this as a daunting task. But my daytona project has slowed waiting to see where this goes.
  23. I nearly got scammed on a rolex datejust off ebay. I thought It was close to the mark maybe jsut a little under market value. distant photos, out of focus but I think to myself I can't take a decent photo of a watch maybe it will be ok. It arrives in a padded mail envelope with the whole package weighing just under 50 grams. As soon as I saw the packing label I knew I'd been duped. I didn't even want to open the item. But paypal made me open the package saying that I needed to take it for authentication and provide provenance that it was fake. I went to my local RSC who know me well. I opened the package there and was basicly kicked out. They had no interest in providing me with any paperwork saying that it was a fake. They said that they only seize items that are a believable fake and as there was not way that this watch could be confused with the genuine article they couldn't care less. But remove it from this premises you can't have that here. I felt like I had to jump through hoops to provide the provenance they requested was a pain in the [censored]. Buy from RWG at least they are an honest bunch here
  24. On another forum, they are talking about making a 6152/1 out of bronze... Hasn't happened yet. I think that you best bet at the moment is to wait. I'm waiting to see if it happens. Bronze isn't that expensive it should be available as easily as stainless steel
