  1. This is probably obvious to many, but the reasons for the use of inaccurate hands (or insert part type here) in projects are as varied as the goals of the individuals who build them. Some are due to ignorance, some to laziness, some to inaccessibility (of gen or accurate repros) & some due to cost. On the other hand, with a lot of luck & when time, motivation & finances take a back seat to experience/knowledge & a dogged pursuit perfection (or as much of it as is obtainable within reason..........well, almost reason), you can exceed the typical
  2. & therein lies the missing link in today's maternalized, indiscriminate PC society.
  3. I remember $23/gal gas, you got a set of glasses with a fill-up & the uniformed station attendant pumped the gas & washed your windows to boot. Your tv, while small, was completely free of the whizzing, whirring & flashing adverts that soil our screens today. A trip to the movies included 3 features, $0.10 candy, no ads & you had the option of staying in your seat & seeing it all again. High schoolers routinely carried rifles to school (the kid across the street carried his openly over his shoulder), there was no such thing as 'mass shootings' or the need for 'gun free zones' & most people safely slept with their front doors unlocked. Oh & nice C+I by the way.
  4. Nice 1st post, but I have to say that I am doubtful (to the point of complete disbelief) of any connection to or with Rolex SA. Do you have any provenance (Rolex book reference, original Rolex paperwork, reliable online reference, etc) that supports your premise?
  5. Unfortunately, while Phong does deal in some genuine parts, I do not believe he has a Rolex parts account, so I would assume any parts you receive from him are non-genuine until/unless proven otherwise. Here is a pic of a 1 of my older gen 700 crowns (originally purchased via Rolex service network) to add to the others for reference
  6. Ditto & the seller's provenance is the only real key to authenticity with small, unbranded parts like this.
  7. Looks like a brand new rep, but I can appreciate the work that went into it.
  8. It is not a 1-to-1 analog, but if the movement fits.............
  9. Perhaps, it is time for a new phone.
  10. The watch is called a DateJust (see dial). If yours says Date Adjust, then it is horribly broken.
  11. You (the woman) are in the best position to answer your question. That is, you know best what you prefer. Some things to consider - If you tend to dress conservatively, you may find that a plain, vintage ladies watch works best. if you like to be fashionable, you may find that a larger, men's watch is more to your liking. When it comes to 'jewels' on rep watches, my advice is to steer clear. They never look real, regardless of the seller's hyperbole. Similarly, unless you absolutely must have gold, it is best to stick with stainless steel models. The reason is that the more features on a rep, the more likely they are to betray the watch as a rep. More & more people today are educating themselves to the telltale signs of reps. So, while a plain ladies Oyster Perpetual, Date or Datejust model may not broadcast the fact that you have are wearing a 'Rolex', it also tends to be very difficult to ID as a rep since the rep makers have pretty much gotten the basics down to a consistent science. Finally, to my eye, old money does not need to shout, so they tend to opt for more understated jewelry, while the nouveau riche, having grown up without money, tend to feel the need to broadcast their wealth with flashy jewelry.
  12. Unfortunately, this is all too common with rep watches. It is 1 of the things cited when people suggest that Rolex watches are overpriced for 'no reason'. The problem is a lack of QC & poor/ill-fitting parts, which is never a good combination. The good news is that most watchmakers should have better quality pins that may stay better than the originals did. Even better, in most cases, you can chuck the rep bracelet altogether & replace it with a genuine Rolex or Swiss-made aftermarket bracelet (the watchmaker should be able to source this for you). Not only will the parts stay in place, but the overall improved level of fit & finish of the Swiss-made bracelet will be obvious. Either way, it was a nice gift & a watchmaker should be able to sort it out.
  13. Like Obama, Rolex shortsightedly pivoted to Asia when it should stayed the course and the results were disastrous in both cases.
  14. Rolex is not really in the 'tool' watch biz anymore. While blue text/markers may not be as legible, especially when viewed at or near rated depths, they market test better than white, which is often seen as 'boring' & 'old-fashioned'. At least, those were some of the terms that came up most frequently in the last focus group I attended (2 years ago).
  15. I am not the best with non-Rose dialed Tudors, so take my comments with a grain of salt. The dial does not look right to me. Perhaps, it is new or it has been relumed, but my gut says it is not a 30+ year old dial from Switzerland.
