  1. Very few 6541s were ever sold, which is why Rolex ceased production in '86 & by then they were only producing a relative handful each year. With such a rare (valuable) watch, I think it is pretty unrealistic to expect to see them worn on the streets.

  3. Get the new mono set. PM me your email address & I will email the link to you.
  4. When Rolex (or some of the WIS's on VRF) cannot tell the difference.
  5. So I went out to dinner with a friend (who wore an old Daytona I gave her some years ago) After dinner, we went for a walk through the city & heard a very familiar sound (Stephane, you will appreciate this), which turned out to be The Beatles And the obligatory wristie I also recorded a 25 second video of the group playing 'She Loves You'. PM me for the link if interested.
  6. I believe the purpose for fitting the Sub bezel/insert was for lab techs to be able to measure the time spent in hazardous areas. But, geeks or not, I am at a loss as to how they intended the later insert to be used.
  7. Like you, I do not know the purpose/usage of the 1-5 indicators on the inserts for the 3rd version of the 6541. This numbering is especially curious considering that the initial 2 versions of the 6541 were fitted with early Sub inserts similar to this (sorry, I do not have a pic of an early 6541 handy)
  8. Not sure how much protection a disclaimer will do when 1 of the words that make up the site name is 'replica', which infers contraband & illegal activity. While I wholeheartedly agree with the Admin's decision to include it, I kind of see such disclaimers as being akin to posting a 'Not responsible for lost or stolen articles' disclaimer on a How to Shoplift site.
  9. I contributed some data to DW's new case projects, so they ought (assuming the factory used the data correctly) to be fairly accurate & up to his usual standards of quality (such as they are). But I never received any production samples, so take my comments with a grain of salt.
  10. Took the words right out of my mouth. Love the pic.
  11. Exactly. Although I already own a few 1665 cases, I would buy an additional 1-2 1:1 cases in a heartbeat if/when they became available (at a realistic price). And I am sure that just about everyone else like me would as well. Imagine how many truly 1:1 1665 or Daytona cases you could sell on ebay!!!!!!!! In fact, just word-of-mouth sales, alone, would probably flood the marketplace, pushing just about everyone else (not selling true 1:1 cases) to the sidelines. Due to the potential numbers involved, profits from a case retailing at US$200 would be significant & certainly more than sufficient to offset both the development & small production run costs (if even relevant). The only real stumbling block I can see is Rolex (& any other gen makers whose repped 1:1 cases begin flooding the marketplace). The production of a true 1:1 rep Rolex case would test my belief that the rep factory bosses have arrangements with the gens that allow them to conduct their business in a mostly hands-off fashion as long as they are not producing exact 1:1 copies. In addition, I suspect, also, that if people here (at RWG) were involved in the production of such 1:1 cases (considering the knowledgebase available), it would likely spark an arms race with others (like NDtrading, etc, who produce 1:1.1 cases), wherein they would immediately jump on the 1:1 bandwagon, much to the chagrin (or joy, if you are a gen lawyer) of the gens' lawyers. Whatever the case (no pun intended), I bet the rep world would undergo a significant change if a true 1:1 Rolex case suddenly hit the marketplace. Oh, & add a 1:1 dial to the mix (imagine a 1:1 Paul Newman ) & all bets are off. To paraphrase the Vapors - I'm turning Japanese just thinking about it.
  12. No argument there. I just think that if RWG members are involved in the production, the retail price (at least to RWG members, some of whom may be tapped to add to the knowledgebase used during development) ought to be more realistic. And as far as which cases would be good candidates for such an enterprise, I would simply use NDtrading's site as a production guide. I only wonder how long it would take NDtrading (& other sellers of Vietnam-sourced rep components) to drop its pricing (by 80%) once a realistically priced competitor appeared. My hunch is less than 24 hours, which makes clear how utterly baseless their pricing structure is.

  14. Ditto, though $300 seems a bit high, even for a small-production run considering that entire rep watches of similar quality are routinely sold for 1/4 of that. The only difference between the cheapest Silix case & a properly dimensioned case are the dimensions. The material is the same & so is the process that creates the case. I would expect a bit of extra cost if the production run is below the minimum (250), but we all know that a truly 1:1 case of a popular vintage Rolex model would more than likely require repeated runs to be able to satisfy the insatiable demand that such a product would incur.
  15. I cannot see much to be gained by swapping an Asian 7750 for the ETA. Properly serviced, the clone should last a lifetime & provide similar accuracy.
  16. Odd to see a legal disclaimer on a rep site. I wonder what instigated this?
  17. Thanks, Ronin. Unless 1 of the other utilities offer something substantial that Ghost does not offer, I might as well use Ghost since I already have & am familiar with it. While dd will theoretically do the job, I have always found drive swapping to be more efficient & safer when done from the cluster level vs the OS. Less chance of missing files (that may be in use or locked) or inadvertently having something modified that causes problems later. As long as the drives are compatible with Ghost & the motherboard, I have never had any problems using Ghost. Based on the responses, it sounds like my original plan (to image/swap the EIDEs over to SATAs via Ghost & the addition of a SATA controller) should work. Thanks for all your input.
  18. Thanks for the reply. I know a SATA controller card is needed to connect the SATA drives, but I am worried that the new card &/or change of drive types will end up causing booting problems since BSD was installed onto EIDE drives via the motherboard's built-in IDE controller. Whenever I have changed booting hardware in the past, I always end up with an unbootable system & the fix usually comes down to either of 2 options - reinstalling the original drives or rebuilding everything from scratch onto the new drive hardware, which is not an option this time.
  19. I need to replace 2 Western Digital 40GB EIDE hard drives in a BSD server and I usually use Norton Ghost to image the data from each of the existing source drives over to the new target drives. However, I am having trouble finding inexpensive replacement EIDE drives, so I am considering upgrading to SATA. I can get a pair of 80GB SATA drives, but I am not sure if EIDE-to-SATA is compatible when using Ghost? So, before I buy the SATAs, does anyone have direct experience Ghosting from an EIDE source drive over to a SATA target drive in the same PC? TIA
  20. The only way to improve what you have is to swap the 7760 for a V72 or a gen 6263PN. But you should read your camera's manual to learn how to set the white balance & use its macro (close-up) setting.
  21. Yup. Cool huh?
  22. Thanks for the pics, Luthier & sorry about the lost page, OS, but have a safe trip home. Great read.
  23. Since your PN came out so well, I thought the pic deserved a bit of tarting-up (I hope you do not mind)
  24. Actually, I believe there have been numerous threads detailing members' attempts at building/modding this model. But, due to the complexity of the case structure & dial details (getting a dial with the correct 'weave'), most of these attempts (in my opinion) have come up short. Here is a proper gen for reference
