  1. Beautiful.
  2. Flashing my chs ceramic around the grounds on Thursday
  3. Funny, I was thinking the same thing (about yours & some others').
  4. If you want to hear them, shoot me a PM & I will send you a link.
  5. Looks good. If you expect to be out shopping, you can probably pick up springbars at any watchmaker or shopping mall kiosk that sells watch straps. They may not be Rolex style, but they will work just as well & may even be free. At least until the other bars arrive.
  6. Hang in there, Robbie, & keep searching out more specialists. There is likely someone out there who holds the answer, you just have to find him.
  7. Great pic.
  8. Justasgood has it right, but I will try to clarify - Part 4, the bezel retaining spring (this latches onto the top of the case (around the dial) & secures the bezel onto the case), fits inside a channel that is cut out along the inside circumference of part 1, the bezel. Install 4 into the channel in part 1 (this bezel is from a different watch, but the parts are similar) Place part 2 (the roller guide) on top of part 3 (the spacer ring) & place 2/3 on top of the case (with 2 on top). Then, place 1/4 on top of 2/3 & press the bezel down until you feel/hear it 'click'. The clicking happens when the retaining spring (part 4) compresses & then slips down around (& under) the wide lip on the front of the case. Once there, it expands a bit, locking the bezel assembly onto the case.
  9. Of course, there are always exceptions (to generalizations), but I think the original post makes the point.
  10. I strive for emotion over technique, which is why my shots never approach the quality of any of By-Tor's or some of the other pro-quality photogs here. An old pic, but my favorite wristie (today) I got bored with standard light-box style wristies eons ago, which is why I try to post more out-of-the-box compositions
  11. I would aim at cases (including the caseback) & dials (I have never seen a truly accurate Daytona or DRSD aftermarket dial & the potential market is enormous). If you really want to drive yourself crazy, do a 1:1 riveted 7205/71 or folded link 7835/271 to mate to all of those 62xx Daytonas out there.
  12. It was only after I had seen 1 of my Pams on someone else's arm that I realized how utterly huge a 40+mm watch truly is (& how silly they looked on my arm). I immediately dispensed with my Pams & returned to the classics. It sounds like others may be stumbling upon similar revelations.
  13. You are all welcome. The guy doing Lennon was uncannily good. In b&w, it is hard to tell the difference between him & the gen
  14. exper's comments come as no surprise to me. This rep is so good out-of-the-box that few, if any, gen owners would be able to ID it as a rep. Unless I spot an incorrect handstack, I, too, would have serious reservations about calling someone out who was wearing 1. With a watch like this, issues like missing AR on a cyclops or rehaut engravings are just not on the radar screens of most gen owners. These are truly Super Reps & I love mine
  15. Very few 6541s were ever sold, which is why Rolex ceased production in '86 & by then they were only producing a relative handful each year. With such a rare (valuable) watch, I think it is pretty unrealistic to expect to see them worn on the streets.
  16. Wednesday - 09.09.09
  17. Get the new mono set. PM me your email address & I will email the link to you.
  18. When Rolex (or some of the WIS's on VRF) cannot tell the difference.
  19. So I went out to dinner with a friend (who wore an old Daytona I gave her some years ago) After dinner, we went for a walk through the city & heard a very familiar sound (Stephane, you will appreciate this), which turned out to be The Beatles And the obligatory wristie I also recorded a 25 second video of the group playing 'She Loves You'. PM me for the link if interested.
  20. I believe the purpose for fitting the Sub bezel/insert was for lab techs to be able to measure the time spent in hazardous areas. But, geeks or not, I am at a loss as to how they intended the later insert to be used.
  21. Like you, I do not know the purpose/usage of the 1-5 indicators on the inserts for the 3rd version of the 6541. This numbering is especially curious considering that the initial 2 versions of the 6541 were fitted with early Sub inserts similar to this (sorry, I do not have a pic of an early 6541 handy)
  22. Not sure how much protection a disclaimer will do when 1 of the words that make up the site name is 'replica', which infers contraband & illegal activity. While I wholeheartedly agree with the Admin's decision to include it, I kind of see such disclaimers as being akin to posting a 'Not responsible for lost or stolen articles' disclaimer on a How to Shoplift site.
  23. I contributed some data to DW's new case projects, so they ought (assuming the factory used the data correctly) to be fairly accurate & up to his usual standards of quality (such as they are). But I never received any production samples, so take my comments with a grain of salt.
  24. Took the words right out of my mouth. Love the pic.
  25. Exactly. Although I already own a few 1665 cases, I would buy an additional 1-2 1:1 cases in a heartbeat if/when they became available (at a realistic price). And I am sure that just about everyone else like me would as well. Imagine how many truly 1:1 1665 or Daytona cases you could sell on ebay!!!!!!!! In fact, just word-of-mouth sales, alone, would probably flood the marketplace, pushing just about everyone else (not selling true 1:1 cases) to the sidelines. Due to the potential numbers involved, profits from a case retailing at US$200 would be significant & certainly more than sufficient to offset both the development & small production run costs (if even relevant). The only real stumbling block I can see is Rolex (& any other gen makers whose repped 1:1 cases begin flooding the marketplace). The production of a true 1:1 rep Rolex case would test my belief that the rep factory bosses have arrangements with the gens that allow them to conduct their business in a mostly hands-off fashion as long as they are not producing exact 1:1 copies. In addition, I suspect, also, that if people here (at RWG) were involved in the production of such 1:1 cases (considering the knowledgebase available), it would likely spark an arms race with others (like NDtrading, etc, who produce 1:1.1 cases), wherein they would immediately jump on the 1:1 bandwagon, much to the chagrin (or joy, if you are a gen lawyer) of the gens' lawyers. Whatever the case (no pun intended), I bet the rep world would undergo a significant change if a true 1:1 Rolex case suddenly hit the marketplace. Oh, & add a 1:1 dial to the mix (imagine a 1:1 Paul Newman ) & all bets are off. To paraphrase the Vapors - I'm turning Japanese just thinking about it.
