  1. 5 o'clock shadow
  2. Waiting for part 2, which I hope will go smoother than part 1.
  3. You will like the Acetimer. I have 2 of them (a 2-watch & a 4-watch) & could not be happier. They are attractive & built reasonably well, run on either a/c or batteries, are dead quiet (even with your ear against them) & offer 3 daily winding rates to tailor the winder to your watch's needs
  4. Sorry to hear the bad news. But, after all this time, you are much better off having the movement overhauled now (assuming the watchmaker knows what he is doing) than to tempt fate yet further by having it work on his bench only to fail some time after you get it back. This way, again, assuming the watchmaker knows what he is doing, you can be confident that you will have a properly functioning watch for the next 5-7 years.
  5. Well done.
  6. Thanks, Andei. Believe it or not, I have a handful of others (all Beatles) that are new & still in their original plastic wrapping along with a mint Panasonic 8-track recorder. Unfortunately, blank 8-track tapes are few & far between.
  7. How does it measure? It all depends on how well you know your genuine Rolexes, how much time/effort/money you are willing to expend & how neurotic you are about accuracy. For a reasonably-priced, out-of-the-box rep, I think it looks pretty good. But you might wait until By-Tor chimes in as he knows the modern GMTs better than just about anyone (he has also written a number of concise reviews & buying guides of the various GMTII reps available that you can find via the Search). When it comes to GMTs on jubilees, you are preaching to the choir
  8. Still wearing old tropical nuts Friday morning
  9. Unlikely. More likely, it is a conversion, which is the case for the majority of Spaceviews floating around these days (especially on ebay). A large number of standard Accutron watches have had their dials removed to mimic the Spaceview. Yours appears to be 1 of these, but it is still a great watch.
  10. I agree with Ziggy. It looks like a refinished ETA.
  11. Now, THAT is a nice watch. I have come close to buying a Spaceview several times, but some other item always ends up getting priority. But someday soon........... Still wearing my tropical 6536/1
  12. It does look a bit islandy, but hard to believe a few days in the OK sun would cause that unless the paint was seriously defective (which, considering the source, is totally impossible ).
  13. The spacers were designed to fit ETAs & should fit any ETA clone that is made to the same dimensions. I have not heard of anyone trying to use them with other movements. Your best bet for that type of info would be to check with Stilty directly.
  14. Is that god-forsaken place (OK) in the 'midwest' (I think it is just the west)? But, whatever it is, I hope you & your sun-drenched watch make it back alive.
  15. Like Nanuq said, (good, clear close-up) pics of the watch (from all sides, including the movement) would be very useful.
  16. UPDATE - My camera arrived back today (10 days total round-trip time) & in perfect working order. Even though the camera is long out of warranty, Canon repaired it for 0 cost (including shipping both ways).
  17. Just received my 6 year-old (long out of warranty) A80 back from Canon service (10 days from the day I shipped it to the day it arrived back at my door, repair cost (including shipping both ways) = 0 - Canon's customer service is truly AMAZING!!!!!!!!!) Of course, my (4MP & non-IS) p&s cannot match the succulent dof I get from its bigger (slr) brother mated to a Contax/Zeiss lens, but I still find the images it produces to be more than adequate (& often brilliant) (All hand-held in Auto/Macro mode & sharpened/re-sized only) All in all, this camera takes more pleasing pictures (much less noise/color fringing) than either the SX10IS or G10 did. Newer clearly does not always translate to better.
  18. I agree with PP. Anytime you hear rattling (something loose) inside a watch, you should get it to your nearest watch repairer as soon as possible. And do not wind or try to set the time until the watchmaker looks at it.
  19. In addition to the brand dilution, which is a serious issue (from the gen makers' point of view), there are also lost sales that directly result from potential buyers choosing a rep instead of the gen. As the quality of reps have improved (those who have been collectors for more then 10 years know what I mean), it becomes a harder sell for gen makers to justify their high prices, even if those prices are justified. Even some watch magazines have begun to pose this argument.
  20. Wearing my chs Saturday night/Sunday morning
  21. Many, but not all, self-destruct. Mine (2nd row from front) are nearly 5 & 4 years old, respectively, & still going strong (though neither is a daily beater)
