I have installed gen coronets on mine, centering them slightly better. But it is a very delicate operation - you have to be careful not to get/smear cement beyond the backside of the coronet when placing it onto the dial face. Also, because you cannot really fill the holes without drawing attention to the area, you can only move the coronet up a bit. From normal viewing distances, no one can tell, but, in the hands of an expert with a loupe, it may still be a giveaway.

I would request good, clear (in focus) pics of the other side before anyone buys this. He has 3 of the same (out-of-focus) pics. Could be he is a goon or he may be hiding something. At that price, I would want to see what I am getting.

Other options are NDT & MQ. Of the 2, NDT tends to be cheaper & more variable, MQ is probably the most expensive, but also the most accurate (most of the time). In either case, at this price level (high) I would recommend that YOU do your research (on gens) before clicking any buy buttons. No aftermarket part is perfect. They all contain flaws & YOU need to decide which flaws bother you the least.

Welcome back, Chief. I hope you plan to hang around.

Ending the work week wearing 1 of my Subs

If you want a watch that is more useful, get a Sub with date. If you are a diver, or just want to look more like 1, skip the date (who cares what day it is when you are under water)

Sorry, I did not mean to be critical, just trying to help. Here is a gen for comparison, see what you think -
-
Sorry to be the usual nay-Sayer, but to be taken as genuine, it has to be fluid, smooth & clear. Not sure how to achieve that without the correct tools?

One man's ($3) garbage is another man's ($30k+) valuable collectible. At least, in my case, all's well that ended well.........
-
Some of you old-timers may recall the disassembled '42 I purchased from Ofrei several years ago that ended up being (mistakenly) sold out from under me by Bob Frei. The watch went to a flipper, who then parted it out on ebay. Well, it happened again.........unfortunately, not to me. This 1 was found by a collector at an estate sale &, amazingly, it was virtually the same type of find, even down to the plastic box all the parts were stored in.

Wearing my 'Graph today

Hey, Stac, good to see you back again. I cannot help much with rep Subs, but it looks like others are.
-
Looks like a standard rep dial to me.......nothing special......& I would never buy anything from a seller with those pics.
-
Until/unless a member who has actually mated the 2 together jumps in, you might fare better by asking the seller of your case if it is made to OEM specs. Still, from my experience, due to the lack of QC & variability of most rep makers, regardless of anyone's experience or what a seller tells you, the reality is that until you try it with your case, there is no way to be 100% certain either way.
-
Ditto. My only complaint (a very small 1) is that the tip of the chrono seconds hand should be opposite the color of the dial (for better visibility). In this case, it should be black.
-
As stated........silver for 1st 2 versions.

If you paid even £1500 for that Daytona, you got quite the deal.
-
Of course, it is your watch to do with as you please, but you will destroy the innate beauty of that Daytona by having any part of it modified. More importantly, as far as Rolex is concerned, by modifying it, you have turned a genuine Rolex into a non-genuine Rolex and many Rolex Service Centers (RSCs) will refuse to work on a watch so modified. Think seriously before you move.

Unlike the gen forums, all - serious watch aficionados - are welcome here. As has been said, you will find many fakes, frankens, reps and genuine watches here. As long as you have a passion for timepieces, you are welcome.

Been awhile, so you might want to search out my old 1665 dial threads, but I think it was a 1-off part I found on ebay that I relumed.
-
What a great collection of beautiful watches today, gents! I mean every 1 of them. Well done, guys. Even a rare appearance of 1 of eunomians's gems. Nice. Ending the work week wearing this old clunker

I am not sure about the seconds hand, but, otherwise, me likie what I see.

Works for me.

Sourcing parts - any online stores other than eBay?
freddy333 replied to watchgal's topic in The Rolex Area
Your case has the cut-out @ 9 o'clock for the 167x plate lock screw to fit into, so it looks like it may be genuine. As for a gen movement, you can ask around at some local watchmakers, but, generally, ebay is your best chance of getting 1 for less than market value. Of course, then you also risk getting a lemon. But if you stick to sellers with 99+% ratings & long (more than 5 year) histories of selling Rolex watches/parts with lots of good, clear photos, you should be fine. You are certainly welcome to post the pics here if you want 2nd opinions. However, when buying Rolex, you should be prepared to pay the going price. Trading a 10% savings for peace of mind is not a very good exchange rate in my opinion. Also, once you have assembled a gen case & movement, only a gen dial (crown & handset) will do. So be prepared for ongoing sticker shock. Good luck & happy hunting! -
With fingers crossed...............
