  1. Yes. Generally speaking, watches, to babes, are just jewelry.
  2. Looks like a repainted aftermarket dial, but the case looks delicious.
  3. The fonts on the Double Red should not be so heavily serifed. Compare your dial with Nanuq's or other gens.
  4. Reps are notorious for having poor quality crowns & crown tubes, which results in misthreading..........often within days or hours after delivery. The options are to replace both with gen parts (crowns can be found on ebay & the for sale sections of gen Rolex sites) & gen or Swiss-made (functionally the same as gen) tubes can be found at most watchmaker supply sites. Depending on the particular rep watch case you hold in your hand, the threads in your case may need to be retapped in order to fit either a gen/Swiss-made or another rep tube. Unfortunately, due to the lack of QC & construction variability of rep cases, the only way to know if your case requires retapping is to try to fit another tube. I am not aware of any shortcuts to this.
  5. When you are right, you are right. As always, outstanding work, my friend.
  6. If everything else is gen & you can afford the gen 3135, why would you not buy the gen? The contrary is also true.
  7. Actually, you can still use a gen dial, but you would need to cement it to the plate. Still, nice build.
  8. Considering all the gen parts in this build, I would have held out for a gen movement (which you can still do as long as you did not clip the dial feet) & 62510H/555 bracelet. Still, a beauty. Well done.
  9. It has been awhile (so you might search out my original construction threads to be sure), but I seem to recall having had a similar problem with 1st dial (DW) & Enicar I used for my 6241. I ended up dial dots to affix the dial to the pillar plate. Fortunately, the feet on the current dial (MQ) were long enough to fit without adhesives.
  10. 5513 was originally produced with the 19, which is what looks best. Alternatives should only be considered when the 19 is not available.
  11. Felt like giving Goldie some wrist time today
  12. Ditto. Of the 2 'platinum' paint jobs I have seen so far, in both cases, I thought the underlying color from the factory looked better. I think if you want something more accurate than what the factory applies, buy a gen.
  13. There are a number of threads detailing this watch, but, basically, except for JoeyB's insert, all genuine Rolex (professionally repainted gen 6542 dial plate).
  14. Here is another (not so perfect) 1
  15. As someone who has a couple of these, my take is that they are wonderful for personal collections. I always describe mine (with dials repainted by a professional dial restorer, as opposed to an Asian rep/aftermarket part maker) as being genuine Rolex watches. Because they are. However, while they may be functionally similar to an original gen Rolex, they are not the same. The value of a gen Rolex with a properly repainted gen dial to 'civilian' Rolex collectors (ie, those who collect only gens) is very limited. Once a genuine Rolex dial is repainted by anyone other than Rolex (who I do not believe have offered repainting for decades), it is no longer considered (by Rolex) to be a genuine Rolex dial. The paint is different; the details, no matter how well done, will be different; & the result will look different to a trained eye.
  16. In that context, well done. Period.
  17. dbane, all true. But for watches of this caliber, you are encouraging suspicion with a minty 60+ year old watch. And eyebrows just rise further when the case looks appropriate for a worn watch, but the dial/hands look brand, spanking new.
  18. Love it.....except for 1 thing, which has marred all of these recent big crowns -- the new-looking dials/handset. On watches of this caliber, you guys should 'age' these parts to match the rest. Get yourself an old 1960s or 70s sun lamp or watchmakers' UV lamp (used to cure UV adhesives) and run the dials/hands under the light until they achieve an appropriate patina. That will bring these builds up a notch & make them look more the part, if you know what I mean. This 1 was UV'd & then baked This 1 was just UV'd Or, you can go all-out with some nice, old gen hands
