  1. I would recommend searching out construction threads of other members before beginning as the answers to most of your questions are there.
  2. Only if it has an AR coating (the AR refracts the light). The cyclops on my TT GMTIIC has AR & it is the only part where the light refraction creates the rainbow effect
  3. As Nanuq said If you have a gen & aftermarket xtal of the same type under the same light, the gen should sparkle more. But basing authentication on light refraction is not a reliable path to follow.
  4. Without a pic, it is impossible to say how much of a tell your zero risk leak mod is. What I can tell you is that if your mod looks like a working gen valve, it is not a tell. Otherwise, it is.
  5. Looks good so far. Assuming the insert is gen, I would do a bit more work on the case (soften edges, etc) & install a working He valve.
  6. All it takes is a 4mp point & shoot (from 2003), a bit of knowledge & alot of practice
  7. Thanks (FM tuner).
  8. Looks good, but are you aware the hour totalizer hand is not centered?
  9. Nice franken or, at least, repainted dial.
  10. Ending the work week with Mystery
  11. I still remember hearing 'Paint It Black' coming out of my (& everyone else's) transistor radio while lying on the sand at the beach. Now, nearly 50 years later, I can play the song, at will, on my ipod.
  12. Still wearing my trusty (as in reliable, not the seller) beater
  13. Either you have a franken movement or the plate was signed with the wrong model number (unlikely).
  14. There are alot of people who would pay Patek to work for them. But, knowing their standards, they are probably looking for someone with ALOT of experience.
  15. mrtesting - Not boring at all. If you have only 1 watch, a Sub is 1 of the best to have.
  16. Well, then my money was well spent (I can attach a camera to my 'scope). But yours still looks like quite a serious piece of equipment.
  17. Wow, that is a pretty serious-looking device you got there. I paid nearly the same for my mid-level watchmaker's 'scope (under plastic cover in top right corner of my pic) & mine looks like a kindergarten toy next to yours.
  18. Varies depending on the day, what I am doing, where I am going, my mood & my wardrobe.
