  1. ...and nothing is "above his pay grade"
  2. All together now! Kumbaya m'Lord, kumbaya... @Dems - I hear ya. It's supposed to be about the content of one's character. Period. Why Obama's heritage or nationality or percentage of "blackness" or religion or gender has anything to do with this escapes me. As does the inclusion of the word "Supreme" in the title of this topic.
  3. Hey now... I have a PATENT on that design. It's the ooooooooonly way to get through those deep drifts!
  4. 1665 Reference Photos
  5. AFTER a nice breakfast of beans. I took the Rover down on the Arm last night and it was everything she could do to make 40mph upwind. It was like a giant hand was THRASHING me around. Pretty exciting stuff! Unfortunately I broke my Kestrel 4000 so I can't verify peak gusts. My coworker tried to put chains on to come to work (the wuss) and the wind was whipping the chains around like a handkerchief as he struggled with them. Heading down again today!
  6. What a gentlemanly way to handle this. The people here are just amazing.
  7. Alligoat is right... the bezel on my MBW (back) looks better than my gen bezel (front)
  8. This happens with vintage crystals too. I've had discussions with other members here that know for a fact that some of the "vintage" Superdome 39s on Ebay are nothing more than old GS crystals in a used Rolex paper envelope.
  9. 78 DEGREES?! Good Lord I'd die in those conditions. How do you stand that heat?? It's blowing 100mph down on Turnagain Arm again and I have tomorrow off!
  10. The correct design has a snap-fit bezel and a washer beneath it. The washer should be slightly bent, and that provides upward tension pushing the bezel up against its retainer. If the washer is bent too much it will be very hard to turn; likewise if it's too flat (or missing) the bezel won't stay in place. When it's adjusted right you'll have to push down on the bezel to turn it... and that's pretty safe. Remember it was designed to time dives, and in those circumstances, correct elapsed times, as measured with the bezel, are critical.
  11. "No, your Honda can't do this" I LOVE IT!!! But this Honda can....... Okay J, I think JTB said it best... it's just down to the color now. As long as it's red.
  12. Pffffffffffft. You guys should both know that the real excitement happens on two wheels.
  13. Gotta agree with you... but seriously, how can you get excited over the sound of a flat-6 going poppity poppity poppity and whir whir whir, when you could have a firebreathing lumpy V8 going ba-WHOOMpa, rumble rumble rumble?
  14. Ah, Jeff... see this is the old argument: vintage vs. contemporary. I'd never own a watch newer than 1976, and some would never own a watch older than 2000. Likewise, I'd never own a new sports car, IMO it's too much of a "look at me" thing. But I'd bend over backward to scratch up the money for a Sunbeam Tiger with a firebreathing V8. Both are sweet rides, but to me one stirs the ego and the other stirs the soul. Just my opinion... My opinion of the economy: this is the time to buy if you're smart, agile and looking forward a year and then again 2 years.
  15. Don't do it. It will never again be worth what you're paying. Get one of these. In capable hands it's as quick as a Carrerra, not quite as fast, and it's doubling in value every 10 years.
  16. Did someone say "aviator watches"??
  17. YEAH BABY!! Hey tell me more about your gilt 1675 dial. I'm thinking pretty hard about doing up my gen with a gilt facelift, gathering opinions from different folks for what's nice and what's not so nice. Why did you choose non-chapter ring gilt vs. chapter ring, and which is more appropriate for, say, a 1964 GMT Master? This is the one that's gonna get gilt-ified, but on a new blank dial... I'm keeping this uber-rare dial to the side
  18. I've tried a couple of different looks... first a green pearl (yuk) And then a plain white one (also yuk) I think it really needs the dark aged pearl.
  19. ....JUST after the husky used me as a fire hydrant!
  20. In a few day's time we have warmed up 70 degrees and tonight we have winds of 102mph. Yowza!! Hang onto your hat!
  21. He has those nice dark vintage pearls??
  22. Yes, I'd like to but too bad, the auction already ended.
  23. Correction: "animal"
