Here are a couple of neat Micros, homage to the Omega Ploprof

The problem is, back in the 1950's and 60's up until the Japanese introduced Quartz watches, there were literally hundreds of small to mid size watch manufacturers. The advent of the Quartz watch, which was cheap, dead accurate, and primarily trouble free, destroyed the mechanical watch industry. Most of the small manufacturers, especially those producing inexpensive watches which competed directly with the Japanese, went under. When they closed, they for the most part simply ceased to exist. Old records were lost or destroyed, and the only thing remaining are a few survivors. Go on ebay and search "mechanical chronograph watch". There are hundreds, and a whole lot of them are brands that you never heard if, simply because they disappeared many years ago. These watches are not rare, that particular brand might be, but you will see plenty with the same type case, same movement, just a different name on the dial. Only worth what the average going price is for obscure brand chronos from that era.

Well MD2020 sure isn't Asian not with a name like Dabrowski!!

The dial sort of looks lie the one that was on my old Eddie Lee TW Best 16613. Those thick surrounds on the dial plots are similar. Not much right with this one!! Run away

Hi Mike Could you shoot me a PM, I tried to PM you and I couldn't. Maybe your PM Box is full? Thanks -
Where do you buy your GEN watches from?
panerai153 replied to ceocorona's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much everywhere. I have bought a few on EBay, but none from there in around 10 years. Last few used have been from gen sites, watchUseek and TZ. Lots of nice watches on these sites, and probably a safer way to go than EBay. -
Another old one, pre Daytona. Gen bracelet on it now with a much better fit!

Second that, mymanmatt is your man!!

I bought one as well. Beautiful pens. I'm very interested in one of the Rolex dial pens as well. Not sure how to contact Mike except through EBay -
This should answer the "rail dial" question. Both are correct. http://www.network54.com/Forum/207593/thread/1305391678/16550+Cream+Dials+-

Sometimes it's pretty hard to convince city dwellers about how nice living in the country really is, but I wouldn't trade the place where I live for any city in the world. they are great places to visit, but not for me to live. great photos. Unfortunately, as far south as I live, we really don't get much fall color change. Some, but not as dramatic as places with 4 distinct seasons.

Best way to ship a $5000 Franken from Norway to South California
panerai153 replied to a topic in General Discussion
That's a tough one. I would do lots of research before it gets shipped. Problem with the shipping companies, they are really vague about what they will insure when it comes to high dollar items. I would surely use the premium service if available, such as FedEx overnight, or UPS overnight. It's going to cost a bunch, but if you lose that watch, someone is going to be out a pile of money!! Before shipping make sure you and the seller are on the same page with everything. Have him take several photos of the watch, the watch in the packing box, and then after the box is sealed and ready to ship. Photos with the address label, and customs declaration form, to establish that is the same box. I would declare it for it's full value and have it insured for that amount, as in most cases, you can only buy insurance up to the amount of the declared value. The seller needs to treat this as a genuine watch, not a 200 USD rep. He really should find out which of the shipping companies will ship high value items with full insurance. Some will tell you, "Sure we will insure it for up to 25K, but if it gets lost, they show you that minute print clause that says watches and jewelry are only insurable up to 500 USD. I know that watch and jewelry dealers have special companies that write insurance for high value items. Things get shipped all the time, every watch, diamond ring, bracelet, etc. has to be shipped, probably multiple times, from the manufacturer to the selling dealer. Someone is insuring that stuff every step of the way, you just need to find out who and if it's available to individuals. -
That was easy !! Everyone who is a paying member should do their upgrade, we need to keep the funds coming in to keep this forum going. And AS ADMIN SAID PLEASE DO NOT SCREW THIS UP BY TALKING ABOUT IT ON OTHER FORUMS, CONTACTING PAYPAL OR YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY. CONTACT THE ADMINISTRATOR FIRST SHOULD YOU HAVE A PROBLEM !! LET'S KEEP THIS UNDER THE RADAR,PLEASE.

Too late! It's sold. Why in the world would anyone pay 1700 USD for a watch on EBay that is so poorly represented, from a seller with only a handful of transactions. Sadly, this isn't even a good rep!! This buyer is going to be in for a real surprise when he finds out he paid 1700.00 USD for a 50 buck rep!! Can everyone say "Paypal Dispute"!

I had practically the same Thing happen a year ago, ordered something from Australia, showed clearing customs here, then for some reason showed returned to origin PO. The sender checked with the origin PO, no record of the package there? Well about three months later, the package showed up at my PO. Tracking had long since expired, so no idea as to where it was or what convoluted journey it took. Strange PO doings.

I have a few in my winder, not obsessive about it, but it helps with the watches that are difficult to set, like the old non quickset Rolexes. Mine stays on all the time. Most important is to look up the data and see which rotation pattern fits your movement. Some watches wind in both dire4ctions, some will only wind in one. If yours is unidirectional, the bi directional rotation will only be working 50% of the time, probably not enough to keep your watch wound. Another thing, the watch needs to be wound well before placing in the winder. A run down movement will not get enough rotations to really keep the power reserve up.

That's a really nice watch, and it should make a fine addition to your "stable"!! Also what you said about Ziggy is oh so true. He is a genius at sorting out problems and making things work. Another thing I really like about him, if something was dodgy, or the build just wouldn't work, he would tell you it wouldn't work, and he wouldn't do it, rather than some folks that will cobble something together and hope it works!! He is going to be sorely missed on the forum, and certainly by me.
