GMT Master. I can't find any flaws...Can you?
panerai153 replied to GWP123's topic in General Discussion
Because if they made it perfect, there would be no reason to make versions V2,V3,V4,V5, etc. Look at genuine watches, do you ever see anyone sell a perfectly good Submariner 16610 and buy another one because it's a "better" version? no, because they are all the same, wear and tear not withstanding. In the rep world, it's always 2 steps forward, one back and maybe one or two to the side. The factories will never build a 100% perfect rep, not because they can't, it's because it's not good business to build it.- 4 replies

Lest we forget. They gave their lives so that we could be doing the things we want to do today. They made the supreme sacrifice.

I agree with MOB, it is common courtesy to add "Sold" to either the title or at the beginning of the first post. Ir's very frustrating and time consuming to read through a sales thread, and then have to PM the seller to ask if the watch is still available. I believe that one way to police the sales forums, is to give folks that refuse to follow the rules a " timeout". If your post doesn't conform to the rules, you get a warning, second time no posting For Sale items for one week, then one month, then if the seller continues to violate the rules, a permanent selling ban. I would bet that the folks who are not following the rules, would get the message pretty quickly.

New folks here have no idea how acerbic another member could be. it didn't do to cross him, whether or not you were right or wrong, you had a fight on your hands!! He did have some knowledge, and his watch photos were about as good as they get.

If you are looking for the plastic bezel/insert. WatchNY makes a lot better one. Price is 200.00 but he has a "Make and offer",and he will accept a bit less. Don't know about the all metal bezels however. As far as WSO, as freddy said, deal with him at your own peril!! When you order, you have no idea what you will receive. Some folks have gotten stuff OK from him, others it has been a nightmare.

That wouldn't be a valid email address. you have to have a @ something.something like MD2020@yahoo.com or MD2020repair@gmail.com MD2020repair.com would be more like a web address

16750

Personally, I would not mount it in a watch. I would have it mounted in your St Christopher medal or a nice gold cross , etc.

I thought he was dead? Their was a thread about him a couple of years back. Thought he got really sick and maybe went back to Scotland to die!!

Actually, if you wanted to use a gen 5513 dial or a good aftermarket, it would fit your case fine. The gen/ aftermarket1680 dials are bigger and have to be shaved or the dial groove in the case enlarged. Biggest knock on the old MBW "polex design" cases, they were really made for 5513 dials. The 1680 dials that came with the watch are smaller in diameter than the gen/aftermarket dials.

The first thing, you have to know the time difference between your home TZ and the second one you want to track, then it's simple to set the bezel either forward or back to get the second TZ.

Ken, I believe that when guys are selling watches that are pretty inexpensive, or they are selling at a pretty significant loss from what they paid, they might ask for the gift option, but no legit seller would care if you used the regular PayPal option and payed the 4% fee. He still get's the same amount. If someone insisted on the gift option, I would be suspicious from the get go.
-
Probably this one, doesn't get worn as much lately, too many others . Another reason, probably could never get close to my money spent if I decided to sell.
-
There is no reason to use PayPal gift, unless you are not willing to pay the 4% or so PayPal charge. I am becoming more and more reluctant to use PayPal gift unless it is someone who is a long standing board member who is and active participant in forum discussions, or I'm actually sending a gift like a donation. Using PayPal gift to me is essentially the same as using Western Union or MoneyGram, once you hit the send button, it's gone!! Hopefully the seller has a reasonable explanation as to why he hasn't responded to PM's and phone messages. My feelings are if you have enough free time to log into the forum and spend time here looking around, you darn sure have time to answer a buyers PM. Maybe it's time for the administrators to start thinking about some sort of selling suspension if a seller has unresolved problems with buyers?

joey, I believe that what he was saying was if you used the GMT adjustment and had it set to something other than GMT/UTC. it would be a tell. If you were setting for 12 hours ahead for instance the GMT hand would be way out of the normal with the hour hand. If you set it to GMT like the 1675/16750, there would be no way to tell from the position of the GMT hand, may be lots of other "tells", but the GMT position would not be one of them.

Not exactly, although I suppose this is splitting hairs, but I have a genuine 16750 which has the 24 hour GMT hand like the 1675. the settable hour hand didn't come into being with Rolex until the 16710. Rolex to my knowledge never had a movement that has a settable GMT hand, like most of the watches from other brands that use the ETA 2893-2 as the base movement. Like docthor said, all the rep 1675's, 6542,s have a settable GMT hand, however if you use it in that fashion, and not GMT, it will be pretty noticeable to about 100th of 1 percent of watch wearers!! I usually have my 6542's GMT hand set to 8 hours ahead, to track the time in Eastern Europe when my wife is over there every summer. With my 1675, I just rotate the bezel until the 8 is at the normal 12 O'clock position and read the 2nd TZ directly off the bezel. Here is my 16750 set for the 2nd TZ 8 hours ahead of mine. Time here is almost 1230, time there is almost 2030 reading the time there off the bezel insert with the GMT hand.

I'm getting in his EBay page with no problem, he doesn't have anything on there that has any Rolex markings, sterile cases, no dials, a couple of inserts for 6263 and hand sets. He must have run afoul of the EBay police and had to take his "good stuff" down.

Vintage Daytona: anything wrong with this rep ?
panerai153 replied to alterego's topic in General Discussion
freddy, It's too bad this project never got off the ground, although since 2007, DW has produced some pretty good stuff, just so inconsistent, and of course now, he has disappeared from the forums(again). He does have and EBay store, but I went there a few days ago, and he doesn't have any Daytona stuff, only his Tudor Monte Carlo case set and some parts. I have no idea what the price of the watch you were showing would be today, since that was 2007, over 6 years back. It would sure beat trying to assemble one from parts however, if the price was reasonable. Wonder where the OP got the watch pictured above? I can't quite figure out why the Minute totalizer spears to be running? It looks like the pushers are screwed in so it shouldn't be running, unless the owner turned the chrono on and then screwed the pushers down. -
Vintage Daytona: anything wrong with this rep ?
panerai153 replied to alterego's topic in General Discussion
I believe that arika has hit the nail on the head. What you are getting for a 200-500.00 USD Rep either cartel or DW is just that, a 200-500 USD rep. The biggest problem with Daytona reps is you have to follow this motto "go big or go home" !! To build a really outstanding rep Daytona, you are going to have to be willing to spend thousands of dollars, yes that's correct thousands, not hundreds. Better case, better dial, V72 movement, genuine crystal, hands, crown/tube. I'm in the midst of trying to decide if I want to go ahead with a upper end Daytona build, after looking at the prices for parts, I'm just not sure I want to proceed. It's not for the faint of heart. Another consideration, if you spend 5-8k on a really nice build, you had better love it to death do us part, because from looking at the sales threads, those super frankens don't sell easily or often. Quite often the owner ends up breaking the watch up and selling off the parts, just to get some of his money back. So like arika said, wear this one, and enjoy it. If you are truly a Daytona fanatic, after much research, then decide if you want to build something nicer. Also, a good IPhone, IPad app is one called iDaytona. very good photos of the various vintage Daytona models along with descriptions. -
Correct crown size for Daytonas (62XX) Series
panerai153 replied to panerai153's topic in The Rolex Area
Thank you very, very much for the information. My project , if it ever gets off the ground is a 6262, mainly because that's the case I have. Seems like this build might be harder to do than say a 6263, as I would expect some parts are harder to come by on the 6262, like pump pushers instead of screw down? Do any of the aftermarket suppliers sell pump pushers, and the 6mm crown/tube. If I can find the correct genuine crown/tube, that's what I will use, but I need a set of pushers as well. This is a long term project for sure.
