  1. Sounds like a noob question, but I'm slowly getting parts together for another Daytona build, Just picked up a nice phong case and a few other parts. I'm not sure about the proper crown/tube combo for Daytonas however. I'm sure whatever is correct will be something that is super rare/expensive, but I would like to know so I can be on the lookout for the correct parts. Thanks
  2. those are beautiful, truly a pair of classics. You have done and outstanding job of restoring the 6536. I don't know if it's the light or my old eyes, but the color of the steel between the two appears to be different, both the cases and the bracelets. Is that age, steel type differences or just lighting?
  3. The only difference between the two I would guess is the 2836 is not a GMT movement, but uses a gear off the "day" function gear to provide the GMT function. The 2893-2 is a purpose built GMT from the ground up. It's a great, very robust movement and is used in almost every GMT watch that doesn't have an in house movement.
  4. If yo u are in the CONUS this is a good source, I've bought several straps from them. Unfortunately, they only ship within the CONUS http://www.broadarrow.net/maratac.htm
  5. Thank you very much for all your efforts to help keep this great forum running.
  6. Very nice. Can't see anything wrong with that one. Is the lume pretty good?
  7. you are so correct, Steinhart makes some pretty nice watches. I had a couple of their GMT's years ago, and they were around 500.00 USD brand new with a Swiss 2893-2 movement! you would pay that for the movement today.
  8. Well said guys!! These last few posts are what this thread was intended to be about, not to start a flame war, or get into a shouting contest about who is right or wrong here or why. It is simply to let folks know that there is a problem with a particular member who does repair work, period. Whether you believe about this particular member is going to be affected by your own dealings with him and/or your personal relationships with him, that's normal and that's life. You can go on Amazon and pick out any popular item there, and if it has lots of reviews, there are going to be plenty of 5 star, but there will also be some 1 star, Not everyone is going to be satisfied every time, however like Amazon, if you have a product with 50 reviews and 45 are 1-2 star, and only 2 or 3 are 5 star, then you need to look at that product pretty darn carefully before shelling out your money. Unfortunately on this forum ,we can't give 1-5 star reviews, we can leave negative feedback, but it's not that easy for someone who doesn't know how to find it to see reviews. If we had a rating system like Amazon for all the dealers and watch repair service providers, we wouldn't need threads like this, but we don't so this is what we need to do to make certain that all interested parties are provided with enough information that they can make and intelligent, informed decision. How many times in life have you said, after a bad experience with a repair person, a car dealership, etc.. "man, I wish someone had warned me about then before I spent my hard earned money and got a shoddy job" I know I have and it would have been great if I could have had some way of really checking up on a deal before I spent the money. That's call due diligence, but for due diligence to really work, you have to have enough information to make an intelligent decision
  9. Mike can you adapt most any nib to your pens? I have a few nice old nibs around. I may want to have something made with one of the old flexible nibs I have. If you love to write with a fountain pen, you haven't lived until you write with one of the old gold flexible medium or broad nibs.
  10. Erica, Glad the old WM9 is still going strong!! AFA seawater vs pool water, if your watch floods, fresh water isn't going to do as much damage to the movement as seawater. Salt water is hell on a movement. In fact most recommend if you get a seawater flood, dump it into a bucket of fresh water and try to flush out the salt water as quickly as possible. Usually they flood at the most inopportune times, you are out on a dive boat, come back up from your first dive, and you notice your watch has water in it. Hopefully, they have fresh water so that you can rinse out the inside and hopefully salvage everything, if you don't notice it for hours, then you have a big problem, especially if it's a small leak, and you don't notice anything for quite a while. I have gotten to the point where I only wear watches on dives that are fairly inexpensive, fairly recently tested, and can be replaced if they are ruined.
  11. Where I live, you can't shoot them in your driveway unless they get out their car with a weapon and you fear for you or your families life, but if they make to the door then you shoot them, drag them inside and then call 911!!! I worked Southwest of Houston quite a bit several years ago, I have a cousin who is an architect in Houston, used to visit he and his wife when I had an early afternoon off. I asked him one time, why are all the drivers so polite here, no honking horns, etc. he told me, "everyone here has a gun in his car, honk , or cut someone off in traffic at your own peril"!! If you go knock on someone's door, and they believe that you have wrong intentions, at best, they call the cops and you are in jail, at worst he meets you at the door with a pistol or shotgun and you are either dead or seriously hurt. I don't think these watches are worth risking someone's life or career over. There are legal means to accomplish what we want, if that doesn't work, then maybe risk a visit, but as a last resort not as a first step.
  12. If you love it, test it!! Like Freddy said, once a year. AFA vintage watches, I've pretty much decided that my old watches need to stay out of harms way. Found this out the hard way when my 1665 got moisture inside about 6 months after passing a pressure test to 8 atmos. Found out the old T39 had a crack at the. base edge. Luckily, it was just fogging and easily corrected, but after a new crystal I decided that it needs to stay Away from water.
  13. That is a truly beautiful build!!! Another masterpiece from a master. Gen rivet will make it perfect.
  14. That Xmark will get you in a lot less trouble than those bikes!!! About the worst that can happen is you decapitate yourself mowing under low hanging tree limbs. I spent two days this spring with a pole saw and lopping shears cutting back branches. I got tired of coming in with my head bleeding and scratches all over my arms trying to trim around small trees. I slid a nice GS 1150 a few years back, got scared of riding it, not because of my ability, but soccer moms, driving with one hand talking on their cell, putting on makeup and eating a burger all while driving, totally oblivious to everything around them!! Figured better to sell the bike rather than become a statistic to a left turner who never saw me coming.
  15. Right before he disappeared, I was working with him to buy a Gold 6263 Daytona. Problem was he had some negative feedback from members here, and seemed to be getting a little dodgy. He wanted me to pay with WU, said his Paypal account was frozen and couldn't use it. I decided it wasn't worth the risk, and I backed out. It was just too much money to send off with no possibility of any recourse.
  16. Man you need to relax. Package tracking is very hit or miss. Items get scanned, some get missed, USPS is terrible. I have had packages delivered that we're still showing acceptance at the origin Post Office. AFA using TrackerPro or other tracking software or apps, all they are going to show is what's on the official websites.Unfortunately, they aren't privy to any special tracking info. I use one called PackageTrackr. Works Ok, but sometimes it is worse than the official sites. If you want tracking at every stop, every time, you are going to have to use private courier companies like FedEx or UPS
  17. As you can seem no activity for months, so I would assume this project was a no go.
  18. Pushing this back up. Take a look guys and if you like pens, help a good, long time member out
  19. Mighty nice!!! Red seconds really sets it off.
  20. The old 1680 again today. Watched the WS last night and gave the crystal a food going over with poly watch . It was pretty scratched up from about 5 years of wear. These were pre poly!!
  21. Tried searching Ebay for that seller name, didn't come up with anything. What Ebay is he on? seems like I saw some listings from him a while back on either Ebay Australia or Singapore/
  22. Quartz might be the way to go, pretty much only need to advance the date after months that are less than 31 days. Look at the Tag watches. The genuine are quartz, so not a problem with the wrong type movement. I'm sure the dealers here have some in your price range. I gave my wife a gen mid size Tag Aquaracer for our Anniversary last year, and she loves it. She has a gen SS/Gold Rolex Lady Datejust sitting in her watch box she never wears any more. She likes the quartz better!!!
