My wife has one almost identical to that one. IS that what we need to look forward to!! I agree with ceejay, all the watch parts houses sell these movements, Ofrei, Startime, etc.. Much cheaper and easier to just replace the movement. It could possibly be repaired, but if you take it to a good watchsmith, I bet he would suggest that you replace the movement. I was going to suggest getting it fixed, all shined up and giving her back her watch and a big bouquet of Roses on Mothers Day, but it's over two months away, so maybe a bad idea to wait that long!!

US Customs - Anyone had any problems lately?
panerai153 replied to hiker01's topic in General Discussion
Tom, I don't think there is any control over where a package lands. I believe and I may be wrong that packages that are ready to ship are put on the first available flight, so it's a luck of the draw as to where your package lands. having said that, I do believe that there is some degree of regionalization involved. I would expect that if you live on the west coast, you wouldn't likely have packages clearing through Chicago or New York, if they are coming from China. If they are coming from and EU country, they might well clear in NY, Atlanta, Chicago, etc. as there are probably more flights from Europe coming into JFK than LAX. So it's possible that both your geographic location as well as where the package originates plays a part. I live in the south, and I have had packages clear customs in Anchorage AK (Haven't seen any clearing there in a long time),LAX and SF. Interestingly, I very recently had two packages sent from Singapore, both of them cleared customs in Miami. First time I have ever had packages go through there inbound. My wife sends a fair number of packages to Europe and almost every one of hers go through the Miami ISC. I doubt that this convoluted discourse answered your question, but it is only to illustrate that we really don't have any control, and where you live does have a part in where your package ends up entering the USA. As hiker said above, he had watches seized in Chicago, the dealer resent them to a different address on the west coast, they cleared through LAX with no problems. I believe that if you are getting watches from a TD, there are a couple of simple rules or suggestions. 1. Use the dealer option that guarantees delivery, and 2. make sure the package has only one and at the most two watches. A package full of watches is almost certain to draw scrutiny, especially in places where they are actively looking for counterfeit goods. Sending only one is no guarantee that it will get through, as several members have had single watch shipments confiscated, but it may help. Suggestion 1 above is really important as it guarantees the dealer will reship another watch. Also before you buy, if you are not sure, you need to make sure the dealer's policy is guaranteed delivery. -
Welcome sir, I believe that you would do well to visit some of the dealer websites and look around. I'm not sure that the UN that you are looking for has ever been replicated, but I'm sure the Ceramic sub is offered in multiple versions and by different makers.

Bezel changes, ROO Rubberclad to Stainless Steel
panerai153 replied to panerai153's topic in The Audemars Piguet Area
Hello Mr. A, that would be greatly appreciated. I was not sure about them, The guy who sold me the bezel said he's taken quite a few apart and most are without the washers. Be that as it may, I am a firm believer in the theory that parts are there for a purpose. I would hate to have this one end up "all wet" inside, just for the sake of a few washers. Like you said, those are 8 places to let moisture inside. -
Legend, a great guy and a true asset to this forum.

Thanks Mike, I agree with you, we were not successful in the end, but in I believe that it brought a lot of us closer together. Adversity does that sometimes. This was one situation where I wish I could have done more, it just wasn't to be I suppose. I'm a firm believer in "paying it forward". Also, we never know when we are going to need help either. -
Well guys I embarked on my first little mod on one of my AP ROO's. I have two very nice Rubberclads so I decided to change out the bezel for a brushed S/S, Well little did I realize after quite a bit of reading, the Rubberclad bezel screws do not have the small rubber washers that are found on the ROO's with metal bezels. It looks like the rubber bezel acts as it's own washer. So Now I have the Rubberclad bezel off and I don't have any washers for the bezel screws. Anyone have any lying around, or have any idea as to what I could use as a substitute. It looks like the washers are really thin from what I've seen of the photos and videos. Since these are on the outside of the watch proper, are they necessary for water resistance? Any help or advice would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks

Since there doesn't seem to be any place on the forum where you can give another member well deserved accolades for doing something above and beyond the call of duty, I'm posting this here. This is about Legend, a great member here. I sent a broken watch to Legend, actually bought from another member, however it arrived DOA, and after repeated attempts to get it repaired, I decided to sell it for parts. Legend thought it was too nice to give up on, and It needed another chance. He offered to get Spinmaster to take a look at it Legend personally took it to Spinmaster and dropped it off. Long story short, some things that a noted watch repair person had said were done and parts replaced, were not. Spin got it working fine, and really was very reasonable with the charges. Legend picked it up, wrapped it and posted it back to me. The watch was a long time getting back here, and Legend was with me every step of the way including initiating a trace with Singapore Post. the watch finally got here and is running fine. I just want to say that Legend is a true friend, and he is the sort of person that will definitely go the extra mile to make sure everything is right. I cannot put in words how grateful I am to him for taking his time to get it delivered to Spin, pick it up and post it back to me. I sincerely hope that one day I can repay the favor.

Stingray/Python cord bracelet with AP
panerai153 replied to doc0005's topic in The Audemars Piguet Area
I agree, when you add the diamonds to the gold, it's probably going to be out of the range of most folks. On the other hand, if you replace the diamonds with white sapphires or colored gemstones, or have and option with no stones, then you are in the ballpark. I think it looks great, and I might be interested in one for my wife. Also how does that clasp work? It looks too big for the bracelet, sort of overpowers the top part. Also the first clasp, which I'm sure was just something to use temporarily, looks like the bracelet could come apart pretty easily. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalko -
Stingray/Python cord bracelet with AP

I agree as well, posting all these delicious objects is wonderful and definitely appreciated. I would suggest that when you post the "goodies" that you make it clear if this is a one off project and none will be offered for sale, or should it be something you might sell, you state that and either give folks a "ball park" price, or let everyone know that a price will be forthcoming. All of the dealer links lead to dead pages
panerai153 replied to ethanderson's topic in General Discussion
The dealers all have to change websites on a fairly regular basis. After all, they are selling counterfeit goods on websites that are open to everyone, including the lawyers that represent luxury brands who are fighting counterfeiters. Keeping up with all the changes is probably not a task that our volunteer administrators would want to take on. I realize it's sometimes frustrating to try to ferret out the correct websites, but some of that may be done on purpose by the dealers. Making it really easy for you also makes it easy for the guys that are trying to put them out of business. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

BP Fifty Fathoms on OEM Sailcloth Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Not completely sure of this, but I believe he ships first class mail, which should be re-labeled last class!! It's slow, not even sure it goes by air. Even if it does, there is probably a lag time of several days to weeks before it even leaves Nicaragua, then a few more days to get to customs, them maybe another week or two sitting in customs then it winds it's way through your countries postal system. Don't feel bad, I have a watch coming from Singapore, shipped Registered, posted on January 31' no updates at all, then suddenly it shows up at the USPS facility at Miami International. This morning. So yours isn't the only one moving slow. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Review: The Zorro Forged Carbon Grand Prix ROO
panerai153 replied to Legend's topic in The Audemars Piguet Area
My Dear A, As usual you are the most eloquent of reviewers. I would enjoy reading your reviews if you were reviewing a dime store Timex!! Having said that, this watch is a superlative example of dedication and a steadfast determination to get everything" right" no matter how many times it took and the frustration levels that must have occurred when things were not gong well. My hat is off to Mr. Z for creating this beautiful watch. There will be ten very happy owners of this one, no doubt. I am glad that you are one of those lucky ten. Wear it in good health and as Z said, don't leave it unattended, as it will surely be gone in a flash!! -

If you are looking for a really bulletproof slow beat movement to put in a "keeper" watch, I would recommend the Powermatic 80. If you just want a bulletproof movement and don't care if it's slow beat, Then either an ETA 2824 or a Seagull ST2130 would be your best bet. The second choice for a slow beat would be a serviced 2846. Some folks have converted the 2824 to a slow beat by substituting parts from a 2846 into the 2824. I have had two of these, one we could never get to work properly, and the second did after it was redone by a very good watchmaker. And yes, you are correct, I would never pay a premium for an ETA movement today. Better to get the cheapest movement you can get and plan on changing it for something known.

Pocketwatches: Will they make a comeback?
panerai153 replied to dbane883's topic in General Discussion
It will be interesting to see what impact the Apple watch has on low to mid range watch sales. I see lots of young people wearing watches, but since I work in a hospital setting, I suppose they feel that a watch is necessary. Seems like more women than men wear watches, but I'm not sure it's for utility or a fashion statement!! -
I have a few with A7750 movements as well as three with ETA 7750's. I have two AP ROO's that have been serviced by Domi with the jewel mod. I wind those every time I start wearing them if they have been in the watch box for a few days and are completely run down. Also my Tudor BB which is genuine, and another Tudor with and ETA 7750 and a DW pre Daytona with an ETA 7753. I do wind then more slowly and carefully than I would an ETA 2824. An important rule to remember is when setting the date, best to have the hour between 3 and 9, I usually set the hands to 6:30, set the date, then set the time. This is also and absolute rule with an ETA 2893-2 GMT movement as well as the 7750, both a 7750 and the ETA 7750

It may have been scanned out of the PO in Hong Kong, but didn't actually leave the country. AFA the Post office is concerned it's gone, because it was scanned out. Also how was it shipped? For some reason, Registered is not showing up at all in tracking. I have a watch coming from Singapore that was mailed on January 31st, shows on Singapore post that it was dispatched to the US on 2/2/2015, today is the 26th and it's still showing "Origin post is preparing shipment" on the USPS tracking site. also have some parts coming from another seller in Singapore, same thing, it was dispatched to the US on 2/17/2015, still showing "origin post is preparing shipment" on the USPS tracking site. Not sure what's going on, as Singapore is not as affected by Chinese New Year as mainland China. Also the first package left well before CNY started. I'm at a loss as to what's going on. Another theory, that may ort may not hold water, are some items on purpose or inadvertently sent by surface rather than air? If that were the case, It would take from 3-6 weeks to get here, and then with the backlog of ships at the west coast ports, may take 3 months to get here!! A couple of years ago, I ordered a box of Cigars from Australia. Usually they shipped air parcel which was untrackable. Anyway, I waited for a month, emailed the seller, and they sent me a replacement box, this time by EMS. This took about a week. Still no word from the first box, well, about 3 months later, the first box suddenly turned up in my mailbox. It took it over four months. The cigars were in pretty dismal shape, as it was the middle of summer, and they probably were in a container then a hot warehouse for a while. I emailed the seller, he told me just keep them, see if they can be resurrected. I put them in a humidor, but unfortunately, they were never any good. Nice that a watch is not a perishable commodity!!

Second that with Roland, He makes great buckles. I have one of his for my Bronze Heroic 18. We ship packages to Ukraine all the time to my wife's family there. I have always been concerned about pilferage, but in over 11 years, we have never had anything stolen. I have never shipped anything like a valuable watch before, did ship her niece a new kindle Paperwhite a few weeks ago and it arrived safely. I would contact Roland though. Are you planning to ship it by courier like FedEx or DHL? I would definitely ship with full insurance and disclosure on the customs form. In the past I have shipped a few expensive watches overseas, and I usually send them FedEx./ I actually take the watch and the box to the FedEx store, take a photo or two of them putting the watch in the box, sealing the box and attaching the label. Might not help, but at least I have photographic evidence that it went into the box was sealed and mailed. I'm sure lots of folks will say ship it registered mail, which may be fine, but with FedEx, it's going to be tracked all the way and every time the package finishes a leg of it's journey, it's scanned coming and going. Registered Mail has a tendency to get lost in the shuffle. I had a watch mailed from Singapore on January 31st It has showed "Origin post preparing shipment" since the 2nd of February. Still not here and no tracking progress at all, so suffice to say, I don't have a lot of confidence in the way USPS handles Registered Mail.
