  1. I think it would be best for Mike to answer that himself, but suffice to say from my experience, for movement work, repairs and service, Vac doesn't hold a candle to him. That's just my experience and feelings, so don't flame me if you are a Vac fan!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Glad to see you are back, we missed your presence here. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. I have had a couple of these type transactions. I PM or email the buyer Nd tell them that they are short X dollars. When they send the remainder, I ship. If they don't respond or start complaining, I just refund their purchase price. That usually get's their attention, if not, I move on.i don't have the time or inclination to deal with folks that are not serious.t Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. At one point back around 2001-2002, I got rid of all my reps, and bought only gens for probably 2-3 years. At that time, I had mostly Rolex and Panerai reps. I grew disenchanted because of two reasons, one was a couple of bad experiences with modders who did a crappy job on several Rolex watches. The second and most important was the resistance by buyers to pay for quality modded watches. The community was much smaller then, and folks wanted to but well modded watches at less than the cost of a new I modded watch. Some people were very vocal about paying 1000.00 USD for a modded MBW 1680 with gen insert, crown/ tube crystal bracelet and end links. Also with vintage lume and serviced ETA 2846 movement. This scenario happened a couple of times, and I was so disgusted, I sold all my reps and bought gens. I believe that if you have the financial resources, you will eventually swing to either gens, or highly modded "super reps" poor quality and constant problems which require modding, service coupled with inaccuracies that are not fixable will eventually wear you down. 6. 100% Scam site!! Also will probably infect your computer with malware if you visit the site. Tell your friend that there is absolutely no chance That he will get anything other than cheap "Canal Street" junk if he even gets anything at all. If he won't listen to advice from someone who is familiar with replicas, then by all means let him discover on his own. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. "Modded" Gen Ocean7 GMT . this is and old photo, since this, it's been to misielkped for movement problems and he replaced these hands with better Mercedes hands. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Don't sell yourself short sir!! You have more high end AP's than the AP Boutique in your fair city. I value your opinion highly, and appreciate your input. One question, how do you go about polishing the the dial to high gloss? Thanks very much. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. You need to do a bit of research, as everyone here is more than willing to help, but folks get a bit weary of answering the same questions over and over. One thing that you should be aware of, and there are good threads here, over on RepGeek and RWI, conceding the crack down on rep merchandise coming through Chicago. Since you live in Detroit, almost 100% sure anything you buy from dealers will go through customs in Chicago. I would seriously advise that you make sure the dealer you buy from has a guaranteed delivery policy. Also do not order three watches at one time as they will ship them together and this will raise alarms. Third you may want to look at the sales forums. Quite often you can buy very slightly used watches at a discount, and if they are in the USA, no shipping hassles. Also, don't get duped into buying watches with the so called "Swiss ETA" movements from the dealers. They are all either old movements or a mix if Swiss and Chinese ETA parts. 10. Got a question for the AP experts here. I just got a practically brand new V7 diver M2M on another forum. I have a V5 that has some mods, and I had planned to mod it further, but now that will shift to the V7. What I plan, is to replace the crystal with one of guru's single side AR, and drop in a Powermatic 80 movement. What else should I plan? How is the cyclops AR on the V7? Both my FC and V5 have weak cyclops AR. Also, how is the lume in the V7? Good enough to go with or is a relume necessary as well. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Panerai has always been in the forefront AFA strap changes. With the simple screw in lug screws, it's just so simple to change, as opposed to AP's that at times would try the patience of a saint!! I suppose because of this, there are so many PAM straps for sale. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Have you looked at the prices of anything with genuine Alligator hide? Caiman is a little cheaper, but they are both expensive. One problem is because watch straps are so small, the scales have to be small, which means they have to come from hides from small gators. the yield is small because not only are the hides small, but the part of the hide that straps are made from are even smaller. I doubt that you will find a quality American Alligator strap for less than 100.00 USD, and usually they are much more.Don't expect great straps on reps anytime soon. And as tony said, I would prefer they concentrate on the watch head, I can supply the strap.
  14. If you are going to spend a couple of grand building a nice watch, I would find a REALLY good dial and then build the watch around it. Those are terrible photos, however even at that, this is not the dial you would even think about if you were going to build a proper Daytona.
  15. That looks very nice, however, just to critique, having AP appear four times on the top is a little much. However, the overall design is really, really nice. I suppose incorporating the clasp into the top portion solves the bulky clasp problem as well.
  16. Why don't you contact Ssteel. He's in Finland, originally from the UK. Problem is the more complicated these movements, the more fragile they are and the less likely watch smiths will work on them. Also Domi in Germany as well. I have a question, as this is a pretty interesting watch. Is the second time zone settable like a GMT. or is it just tracking the main hands?
  17. Legend, you are absolutely right, there are none coming from the factories, would have to be a modder "fix", maybe taking the gear train that converts the a7750 to sec@6 and using it on an ETA 7750. Possible, but if he bought this from a dealer, he got scammed!!
  18. I second dbane's choice. I have bought a bunch from them, heavy duty, quality construction and hardware. The only problem, they weren't shipping outside of the CONUS, but since t is in the USA, no problem.
  19. A, I agree, pretty slim chance that it's a Swiss 7750, considering that they are hard to come by at least in quantity, and the prices are over 300 USD for the straight 7750.And even more expensive for the 7753 with subdials at 3,6,9. Seriously doubt that this one is what is claimed. Only way to tell is open it up and let the Rolex/ETA/7750 experts gaze upon it. you will know in a flash.
  20. I agree with Tom, pretty risky movement, and not many watch smiths who work on reps will fool with the A7750's with sec@12 or Sec@6 . Supposedly the newer AP reps with the sec@12 are better and more reliable, but nothing has been said about a better movement for the Daytona.
  21. They would have to be pretty darn high tech to produce the masterpieces they turn out!! I believe that the myth of children in a dirty cellar may have been true years ago when they were turning out pretty crude quartz "junk" watches. The myth obviously has been perpetrated by all of the luxury brands are who basically using that ploy to appeal to folks humanitarian side and to react with shock and indignation when they see photos of a room full of urchins bent over benches assembling watches or handbags, or whatever. "Please don't support these criminal enterprises, thieving Mafioso exploiting young children in dangerous inhumane conditions" buy your genuine watch for 20X the "real" price and help us stamp out these criminals"!!!! Doesn't that sound heart rendering? Problem is it's all a lie, except those same companies are guilty of the same crimes when they subcontract sewing jobs to people who exploit children. Ralph Lauren doesn't talk about the sweatshops that produce those overpriced Polo's does he? Of course not, but he and all his minions are quick to condemn those who are selling reps of their goods, probably produced in much more modern and cleaner factories!! But you never see that on TV , unless it's a news show that uncovers one of the cramped crowded "Sewing rooms" or a fire breaks out and a bunch of young people perish, because the exits are all blocked!!
  22. He's as good as it get's, rep or gen!!
