  1. That's plenty good enough for me! Seriously, why spend any more money unless everything else is genuine and you are just trying to make the case pass for a gen as well. Super nice work, I'm a happy camper!!
  2. I don't like the idea of no returns. Suppose it doesn't fit or the 10k color doesn't match your watch. Does look pretty good though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I just looked up this same question about the 16610 and J.S. Is correct. Officially 2003, but Rolex is all about using up old stock, so some into early 2004. After late 2004 most likely all with no holes cases going forward. I sort of use this cut off as my personal definition of vintage vs contemporary. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Just read today that the "Albino" Cosmograph that was owned by Eric Clapton is going to be offered up at auction again. According to the report I read there are only three of these in the entire world. Auction estimates are 500,000 to one million Swiss Francs. The writer believes that it will exceed that and sell for over one million. Interesting to see what it sells for. Clapton’s exceedingly rare Rolex Reference 6263, the “Oyster Albino” Cosmograph Daytona, is part of the next Phillips auction, due to take place on May 10, 2015 in Geneva.
  5. I believe that Matt can also source them as well. He built a gold Airking for my wife with a gen case, dial, crown and Tudor hands, and he put one of his President bracelets on it.
  6. Just got a newsletter email from them about a day ago, so they are around. Were you trying to pay with a credit card? Was the transaction declined by the credit card company? I have had the same problem actually with PT a few months ago, credit card company declined the transaction then I got a call from the CC fraud department just a few minutes later. they were questioning if this was a transaction made by me and if I knew the party that I was buying from. I assured them that it was me making the charge and I knew the seller, they instructed me to redo the transaction and it would go through, which it did. I have a V3 and it is pretty darn good, the only complaint is the Cyclops needs to be double AR'ed.
  7. Mickey, very sorry to hear about your mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. AJ, incredibly kind of you to do this, but you know I wouldn't expect less of the great folks in this community. So many fine guys here, makes me proud to be a part of RWG.
  8. True my friend, very nice to see slaughter here. I have really enjoyed his posts on the other forums.
  9. There are so many "upgraded" Rolex watches floating around, it's almost not safe to buy anymore, unless you really know the seller, know the watch or have it authenticated by and older experienced Rolex trained watchsmith. Who knows how this got through the RSC, younger tech, folks that were playing in their kindergarten sandbox when these watches were new, maybe the guy selling really didn't have a clue and when it passed through the RSC, it was all legit in his eyes. If indeed the watch is a "put together" even if all the parts are gen Rolex, one it's out, he's going to be out a pile of money. Before I ever put this much into a vintage Rolex, the seller would have to agree to let me send it to Bob Ridley for authentication. I bet it would take him about 10 seconds to determine if it were correct or not! Sorry to hear about your deal with Mulholland, I bought a couple of watches from him and a few bracelets, endlinks, etc., and the very last deal was just a couple of months before he completely went off the reservation!! Glad I didn't wait. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. I can't say enough good things about Matt. He is a truly great guy, and he has really good sources for vintage parts. He has done a bunch of watches for me, builds and repairs. True Southern gentleman. Droptopman, that's a beautiful watch, and I'm sure your wife is going to love it and wear it! You have the same problem I do, I buy my wife something nice for Anniversary, Birthday or Christmas, and end up giving it to her before the date, then guess what? Gotta get something else for "the day"! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. First you need to determine who made the watch. Some rep cases have and odd bezel arrangement and will not accept gen or gen spec bezels. The very latest GMT Ceramics may have a better bezel, but the ones I have seen are very inferior to the gen bezel. Problem is like I said, some cases will accept a gen, some won't. AFA the Parnis insert, I doubt that it will work, they also sell "ceramic" inserts for GMT's as well, but none of those inserts are much if any better than the one you have. To get it to the next level you need a gen bezel/insert and at the least a gen crystal with AR'ed Cyclops Here are a couple of photos of mine, this is a gen bezel/insert, gen dial, crystal. Look at the depth of the numbers on the bezel, also the width. Most of the rep bezel's numbers are too shallow and too narrow. Also the grey or white paint isn't remotely as good as the platinum process that Rolex uses.
  12. I wish they would take the "Chess game" up to the next level and build a movement that is not only cosmetically similar from the rear, but a true clone of the ROO movement so that the dial/Date window /tachy are like the gen. with a slimmer case like the gen thrown in for good measure. Then you really got a winner!!
  13. This is the closest that you can visually make an AP ROO 42mm to gen without spending a few thousand on the "whole hog" package, gen dial, tachy, case re drilled for an LWO movement, movement as well as the costs of putting it all together.
  14. They all do it because they can. Price of manufacture has nothing to do with the prices charged for luxury goods. I agree, if the entire world were in a severe depression, and sales of all luxury goods dropped 50%, they would lower prices, but then, no one could afford them, even at the reduced price!! All sizzle and not much steak. In the case of the Apple watch, in my opinion the jury is still out. Most folks have come to "need" cellular phones, tablets and computers, just like out here in the rural area where I live, you have to have a car/truck. But it will depend on the amount and quality of utility apps that are developed for the Apple watch that will determine whether or not it becomes a "must have" accessory or just a fad. Apple alone sells millions and millions of IPhones, the vast majority of the owners are not early adapters. these early adapters were the folks who stoked the frenzy over the Apple watch, ordered early and oohed and aahed over it , but they represent a tiny fraction of phone users. For the watch to be successful, I believe that Apple is going to have to attract a significant number of the rank and file IPhone users for the watch to be successful. Sometimes when we in the medical field see new products like this our description is " A solution looking for a problem"
  15. come on guys, let's throttle this back a bit OK? I believe the OP has a legitimate request, however I believe it was phrased poorly. A list of obvious problems would probably save some of the noobs here who hate to read and do research a lot of time, however as Stephane mentioned, a list would be nigh on impossible to make and keep updated as the rep manufacturers come out with new models, and sometimes even correct small mistakes within a model series. When you have several rep factories as well as guys like TC and BK selling watches, the variety is dizzying. If you don't agree, just go over to one of the bigger trusted dealers like puretime and look at the variety of 116610 watches they offer. A lot are identical, with only movement differences, but there are others that have differences. I'm all for having a source of accurate information about a particular model, and I'm sure most everyone who mods watches wants to know what needs to be done to their watch to make it closer to the real thing. One big problem with all of the "helpful threads here and on other forums, is that not only rep folks read these threads, there are quite a lot of genuine watch forum folks visiting here, and all we are doing is feeding them information. I have no problem with that if it's being used to keep reps off sites like Ebay that are being pawned off as genuine watches, but suppose US Customs, which I 'm sure visits this and every other rep site, be it watches, clothing handbags, shoes, etc., uses all of our good information to compile their own list to help them seize watches coming through customs. Just food for thought.
  16. As Legend said, it doesn't make any difference how accurate this one is, how many folks can pull off a 100-130K watch? It would be fine to wear out here in the boonies where I live, because most folks here don't know a Rolex from a Timex, they would think this was just another one of those big gaudy watches for sale at Wal-Mart or Dillards!! If you live in areas where there are a lot of serious watches, and serious watch people, you might find yourself spending a lot of time with your left hand in your pocket As for me, I would need and arm transplant or silicone wrist injections!! know any good plastic surgeons who do wrist augmentations? The 42mm ROO's are my limit. It is a beautiful watch, and I'm constantly amazed at the detail the rep factories get right, even though they always seem to have some pretty spectacular misses. I don't know enough about this watch to know if it's good or bad but it's definitely eye catching.
  17. Nice kayak there Mike on a boat !! My water watch would be, depending on my whim of the day would be: Ocean7 LM7 MKII Stingray Heroic 18 Bronze
  18. As he walked by, he failed to notice that she took a quick glance at his wrist, and then turned away, as if waiting for a bus. She waited a few moments and turned and followed him down the crowded street.
  19. I believe that more "questionable" watches have passed through Maron's hands than any 10 other dealers combined!! I wouldn't buy anything from him, even if I could afford any of his watches. I feel sorry for the poor sap that bought this "infamous 198" COMEX.
  20. And this from a man who repairs watches every day, so heed his advice sir and you will be much ahead of the game!!
  21. Actually, while I much prefer the vintage Daytonas, this is the first of all the modern Daytonas that I could live with.By and large I find almost all of the modern Daytonas pretty terrible.
  22. I was thinking the same thing!! Not so sunny Saturday here. Raining and housebound!!
  23. Agree, These are not the best movements, inside a closed caseback, no one can tell and you will probably be getting a more stable movement at a cheaper price with the Asian clone. I suggest you go over to the Rolex forum and research the watch and movements and then make your choice.
