  1. Great work on a unique historical piece. Cheers
  2. It's a great lookin' rep, but I could never wear a blue-colored watch. After lots of consideration, It's gotta be black or nothing. I'll take a black Aquatimer over this model (despite the overall coolness factor of the Cousteau). But, I do not want to detract from how amazing this new rep appears. I look forward to some in-depth reviews of this puppy. Cheers
  3. Easy answer! Patek Jumbo Nautilus
  4. Wow, great bezel! And great watch.
  5. Great watch! I think that finding the hand will be a tough one. I am sending you a PM regarding this matter. Cheers
  6. You are very lucky - your experience is extremely rare and totally uncommon. Perhaps the seller was unaware of what the 726 iteration of V72 was worth (certainly way more than a measily $450).
  7. Take Kanerich' advice: Any package from Mainland China will be inspected upon entrance into Japan. Be careful. Osaka's Koreatown has a few dealers, but the cops have been cracking down hard. Be very careful. Japan does not mess around when it comes to busting people. PS. You will not find much in Kanto (Tokyo) since the law is even more strict. Kansai is your better bet. Beware of Israeli rep dealers in front of subways. They sell crap and they are employed by local Yakuza. Why does the mob hire foreigners to sell reps on the street? If they get busted, they simply get deported and are not allowed to be interrogated. No worries for Yakuza (aside from having to increase the daily bribe to the cop on the beat).
  8. I guess this watch qualifies as genuine since, well, it ain't a rep Today it's the custom PVD Diver SKX007 for me (the one on the left).
  9. There is only one way: you should buck up and get an MBW. This is after you get some practice on some cheapo reps like Avitt suggested. If you don't want to spend $$$, pace yourself. Either way, MBW will allow you to use genuine parts. Like I said, you can slowly, over the course of a few months, purchae all the parts needed for your mods. The dial feet will have to be cut off to fit onto ETA 2836 - OEM dial feet placement are different than ETA feet. You can use 3M double sided tape to stick the dial onto the ETA movement. Or you can use 'dial dots' which are sold at various watch supply houses. Cheers
  10. That worldtimer is growing on me. I keep coming back to this page daily to revisit these pics.
  11. Love those old Doxas. And I'm not just talking about the amazing 60s divers. I love the art deco 20s Doxas that are now seemingly very hard to get. 7+ years ago, there were lots of larger sized 1920s-1930s Doxas on that auction site and on various online dealer sites. No more They are rare nowadays. Zig, that Doxa, I have heard of it! Panerai153 has always had excellent taste in watches over the years, how funny that this awesome specimen belongs to him.
  12. I remember The Zigmeister's email from a while back - interesting stuff. I gotta say that Ofrei is not really the way to go. They were much better to deal with when they were known as "Frei & Borel" 7+ years ago. Anyhow, Oakland has better things than Frei & Co... Take the Golden State Warriors for instance!
  13. It seems that we have single-handedly raised the relative worth of Valjoux 72 movements in the past 1 1/2 years! They were already highly collectible movements to begin with though. I know of 2 collector friends who only collect V72 chronographs - they've been doing so for 15+ years. Take your time, you will find one at a good price. It just takes patience. Cheers
  14. I do not think that the bezels would be swappable, neither the movement. Removing the bezel is actually quite easy. There are several methods that you can carefully try. I happen to have a special case opening flat-shaped tool that looks like a ultra-thin screwdriver. I pry this between the bezel and case, and then I twist the tool slightly to pop off the bezel. Try finding a well-made thin flat screwdriver. Add a little masking tape to the tip so as to not scratch the case + bezel. You can wedge the screwdriver between the case & bezel by gently tapping it with a screwdriver (or some other small but heavy object). You can also try using a razor blade. Wedge the blade between the bezel and case by gently taping it with a small hammer. Then twist the blade. Repeat a couple of times around the bezel. It will slowly pry the bezel off. ***Hint: I use the razor blade method to remove the crystal retaining ring on genuine and rep vintage Rolex sports models (then I use a special round steel die to hammer the crystal retaining ring back onto the case - creating a hermetically-sealed fit). Please: take your time & be careful! Don't apply too much pressure on the blade or it will break! Cheers
  15. Ubi: Kampai from your pal in L.A.
  16. Tuning Fork Space-age day today. Nothing like the hum of an Accutron 214.
  17. Just waitin' now for Zig to have some time for my 3717 mods... But for now, it's a Flieger-type day for me.
  18. Now that's what I'm talking about!
  19. Some Superdome 19 pics: Tropic 116 pics: Tropic 116 and Tropic 19 Superdome together: And a couple of Tropic 21 pics: And some thick 1000m M
  20. Nice afternoon with some nice watches! Cheers
  21. Me too. The only DW 571 links that work for me are the 1st generation ones from years ago (before DW & factory vanished for a long time).
  22. Great watch! I really like the crown. There have been a slew of interesting new watches since this year's Basel show. I wonder if it is at all possible to rep a Rattrapante movement. I suppose the split seconds is an add-on module. Anyhow, it would be great if a rep movement could be made. Better yet, it would be amazing of a rep split-seconds add-on module could be made. Then we could add this module to OEM 7750!! Think of the possibilities! A ceramic IWC rattrapante comes to mind
  23. Out of curiosity, where would be a nice place to get the PO? I am just thinking, but these rubber pics are making me a convert.
