FLA, you guys are not alone in the mayhem.
SoCal is always burning because of ingrate idiots who decide that tossing a cig butt or playing with matches/lighters is a lotta fun on a 95 degree day with 35mph winds and a relative humidity of 20% or less. Idiots.
This Thai Jumbo will be my next purchase. No doubt about it.
I am waiting for the arrival of a Thai Aquanaut that I purchased from Paso Paul. Then it will be the Jumbo for me!
***Please post some detailed pics if you can of your lovely new watch!
Cheers
Flying high with the 1920s aviator Helvetia
This one clocked in many many flying hours (as you can see).
15 Jewels of time-keeping perfection
Lots of wabi sabi
42mm diameter without the crown
22m lug width
Nice airplane propeller logo on the dial
TeeJay: interesting points, I tend to agree with you.
In my case of the Black Dial Jones, it looks very much like a recased pocket watch from the 1920s. Thus, once I remove the engravings + the F.A. Jones signature and add a large domed acrylic crystal, it'll be a great & unique watch that is no longer an utter fantasy
Get the best u can afford. It makes a big difference in the fairly short run. India/China make great things, just not watch tools.
I've bought a plethora of tools over the past 15 years. The only tools that still remain are Swiss made. You get what u pay for in life.
I only have one fantasy rep.
I like it enough to wear.
It needs some mods though. I do not like the shiny black dial with the sapphire, it casts too much shiny reflections. So, I will be replacing the crystal with a large acrylic dome crystal. I will also remove the silly 000/1000 and 123456 engravings on the case side and caseback. Then I will attempt to remove the F.A. Jones signature on the dial. Should be easy to do... Then my fantasy will be complete
Keys and coins in yer pocket. Throw in yer watch. Walk around for a day. Watch the magic unfold. Truth be told, this is my only attempt at making something new look old. But it works real nice.
It's such a shame that this movement is a time-bomb. The Portuguese is one of the hottest watches ever made. It is beyond gorgeous.
I wish to own a reliable rep one day, but it will seemingly not be happening at all
Cheers
Glad it worked out! Osaka is great, Kyoto is a great lil' city!
My fam is from Kanto (Tokyo & Yokohama) but I got much love for my Kansai bretherin!
Cheers
I'll be scratchin' my beard, sippin' on an ice-cold can of cerveza Cristal, tracking 2 timezones, sparkin' up a Cohiba & wearing my military fatigues this afternoon... If you catch my drift (some of you will).
Hambone is right.
It's true about the quality of reps at clandestine businesses in Japan. All the reps I have seen & purchased are garbage reps powered with the shittiest movements possible. No watch is less than
Alarm clock? How funny. I would not put it past the Japanese Customs to still do a thorough search of this clock. If it's not a real neato or special clock, Customs might wonder why you ordered a dorky nothing-special inexpensive clock from China in the first place when you can by one at a local
I see lots of watches on folks around here in cheeseball L.A. la-la land - mostly PAMs.
That is why I don't really wear my PAMs anymore - Luminor overload. When I say "cheeseballs", you don't even know how cheesy & slimey these dudes are
I have talked to lots of people about their watches. Most of the folks tend to be pretty crazy weirdos who trap you into a 5 minute tirade about watches.
Folks comment upon my watches pretty often. The other day, someone said "nice Mark XV". I did not catch what was on the fella's wrist.
