Age old question - how much is too much?
Mike on a bike replied to kernow's topic in General Discussion
"I know I am opening pandora's box with this opinion, but I really think that once most people start owning gens, frankens and expensive Reps become almost ridiculous. " That is a tough call I go back and forth you will see my decision in the next raffle. Do I put in a beautiful brand new gen (Raymond Weil Ti Freelancer or my Rolex 1984 spider dial Pepsi GMT) Now I can buy another Gen but getting all the Gen parts for that Rolex well that is very hard. As far as cost the same................. -
QC pics, anything I should be worried about?? 116600

Wish they sent you a pic straight up at the 12 , hard to judge sideways. Hmm also no pic of rehaut. This all being said nothing glaring from what you have here. -
Age old question - how much is too much?

Pretty much the way of things. Step 1. Born with love for watches Step 2. Discover reps and buy a bunch Step 3. Start loving watches even more because they are now so accessible Step 4. Start appreciating the details more and the flaws of the reps you own. Step 5. Start building/buying frankens to fix the flaws Step 6. Buy a gen because one of the reps you love has a flaw that can't be easily fixed Step 7. Start appreciating the quality of the gen you own and realizing gen is gen. Step 8. Start buying only gens Step 9. Start buying vintage gens. Although there is sometimes turn offs and backtracks along the road as in off reps on gens then back to reps again then gens....................... In addition those of us with no hands on watch skills (think me) buy our franken pieces ( in truth better off when's the last time somebody got money back in full on a build). You do lose the so called joy of the journey but not really if you have ten thumbs it is a frustrating nightmare, tried. I do how ever know where to get parts or rather where to look for them but I am an outlier as I keep up on things for my work here others who can not build have no reason to be interested. All in all it's about our obsession with watches doesn't sound so good couched that way but it is the truth. -
joerg you were shocked................. they have been misspelling all sorts of things for years now. I must admit the case back is the usual culprit I guess they just thought best on the movement this time.

I think the same and have no color blindness, you are correct. -
Opinion needed for recent transaction.

Well the ruling is in I have communicated it to irolexu via PM we/I went over in detail.. Bottom line seller in the clear although irolexu assertion that the defect was know is likely it is not certain. ( damn you just never know and the watch was shipped so that's always a wildcard) What is not in a grey area is he moved much to fast on the fix and in the future for everyone : you wait for seller to respond a week at least then once contacted get estimate of repair or ballpark price (most of us know about what x or y cost to fix) and agree upon split then proceed. If no agreement you contact me I look into it. -

These things are best sorted out in my PM box mate. I make no snap judgements just try to find equitable solutions, this being said it would seem the cow left the barn already on this one. -
Good selection Tony, enjoy!

Is this over the top, or am I just grumpy???
Mike on a bike replied to swdivad's topic in General Discussion
Guys we have been asking dealers to be more active here post their new offerings, this is a good thing not spam. I know most of you are modding stuff looking for parts, advise how to on builds but that doesn't pay the rent. We also need guys just looking to buy rep watches to increase members/ traffic, this does that. -

Just in case not making sense to you the movement is fine. Now the 9 seconds might bother some guys but in the big picture it's really no big deal. -

Mike on a bike replied to Alejandro's topic in Movement Q&A
Presets Beat Number Frequency, the vibration of a movement. The number of balance wheel swings per hour or how many times the watch ticks per hour. This is a preset, depends on the watch you order. 14,400 bph = 4 beats per second 18,000 bph = 5 beats per second 21,600 bph = 6 beats per second 28,800 bph = 8 beats per second etc Lift Angle The angle the balance passes through while interacting with the pallet fork. Important to be set correctly in order to calculate the Amplitude. This preset is per caliber specs. Most modern watches have a lift angle of 50 - 52 degrees. Generally lift angles range from 44 to 58 degrees. Some other settings are present, for instance Gen co-axials angle is 30 degrees. Results Rate How fast / slow the movement runs (in seconds per day) great : +/- 5 s/d acceptable : +/- 12 s/d If higher / lower? It is possible to adjust this yourself or ask your dealer to nudge it a bit. Amplitude The measure of the amount of rotation in the swing of the balance wheel, in either direction. Amplitude is higher when a watch is lying flat and usually falls when the watch is in a vertical position, due to increased friction. Amplitude can also fall as the watch winds down and the mainspring delivers less power. Amplitude is a good indicator of the movements health and if is too high or too low, or that changes too much in different positions, can indicate a problem with the movement. great : 270-310 acceptable : 250-270 If higher / lower? Ask for a different watch or have your watch serviced Beat Error The amount of time by which the duration of swing differs from one side to the other in the oscillation of a balance wheel. Generally speaking to get a beat error of zero, the roller jewel in the pallet fork must be perfectly centered. great : 0.0-0.5 ms acceptable : 0.6-1 ms If higher? Ask for a different watch or have your watch serviced. -

Legend has left the world of Mad Hatter watches (at least for his wrist) and has entered the world of understated elegance , look how nicely it sits on his wrist............ perfect!

It takes some getting used to but works just as well once you get the ins and outs down.
