I need replace the outer clasp on my 7836 bracelet. It's attached to the hinged leaf with a rivet. Is there a recommended way of extracting it, and, is it reusable? Or do I need to get a new rivet to hammer in to replace it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Look at that insert!!! Love it cc!

Dlf's PanAm build is probably the best 6542 PA build I've seen so far that uses predominantly rep parts. Takes a lot of organization, patience, and luck to pull off something like this properly; and for the cost, he did a fantastic job. Might be better just to buy it from him if its for sale. No harm asking. http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/172843-pan-am-6542/?hl=6542

Too many things wrong with it that are not fixable. Pass. Caseback engravings, caseback profile, dial, bezel insert etc. PanAm is one of the more difficult watches to rep and this a poorly executed one. Move along. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm not aware of any generally accepted nomenclature for GMT inserts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I really couldn't tell you if a gen insert would fit a current cartel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Bulang & Sons Distressed Denim Strap + Ghost Insert

thats a great looking strap. congrats. the watch is ok too -
Use a gen insert if you go with a Pepsi. Service inserts are about $150... If you want a blueberry, I believe Michael Young at CWP still carries very nice all blue inserts. Good luck with the build! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes. I've only had experience with one CHS converted 2836, and the GMT wheel kept slipping off the cog. I really couldn't live with it and just gave it away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So I just replaced the only aftermarket part left on my 1675; the crystal retaining ring. Before I put it on, thought I'd take a couple of comparison photos for those that care. Other than not fitting the bezel quite right, there some minor details that can help you with identifying a rep from the real thing. Tough to tell just by looking at it quickly: But under a loupe, the rep (on the right) is milled with slightly larger grooves. The gen on the left, is milled much finer and reflects light in a rainbow hue at certain angles: The underside of the gen is slightly beveled/chamfered where the rep is not: Now that it's installed, I feel much better now! What about CHS modified 2836's? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

nice photo.. eliminating reflection on watch crystals is one of the hardest things to do in photography.. its not easy you need to completely shroud the camera/lens as much as possible.. very tricky. I never realized how fat the fonts are on your insert.. looks great.

Well, after a few months, I would have to say that my 1675 GMT is almost complete. It might sound a bit crazy but this build started off with just the insert. Originally owned by our very own cc33, the insert was sold as part of a rep 1675 build that he had in his possession. I had to own it so I bought the entire package and parcelled off pretty much everything. It was a pain, but if it was easy, everyone would do it right? While the rep case was ok, I knew in the long run, I would never be satisfied with it. There is no rep on the market that I know of that can capture the elegant, slim lines of a 1675 case. So I took the plunge and purchased a claimed, unpolished 1675 from ~1967. Bevels are still clearly seen..giddyup. From there, the 1575 GMT movement is usually the next hardest thing to find and just my luck, miskiped happened to have one. Very fortuitous. Next came the dial.. I really couldn't settle for anything less than a MKI matte dial that would be period correct. After some exhaustive searching and finding several blemished/damaged dials, I finally settled on a set that is in near pristine condition. Kept in a safe for over 15 years from a collector, the dial had developed a rich patina. Because the matching hands were stored separately, they too developed patina but at varying rates due to the type of packaging they were stored in. As you may or may not know, patina develops in darkness, not in sunlight. I suspect humidity also plays a factor which can be affected if its a wax envelope or paper. And patina is reversible; so I imagine through daily wear, the patina of the hands and dial will even out over time as the lume markers lighten up.. but I quite like it the way it is. What do you think? There was a slight issue with the datewheel, but miskiped addressed it immediately and even found the correct "hook 7" datewheel that is period correct. While in his shop, he also replaced the crystal with a NOS 116 in his possession. One small thing I will change is the retaining ring. The mid-case originally came with a T116 installed (that was replaced) but the retaining ring appears to be aftermarket. I have a NOS retaining ring on the way and will swap it when it arrives. Still contemplating putting on a no-cyclops T38, but i think that can wait. Bracelet is a genuine 7836 folded oyster that has a finicky clasp that will soon be replaced. Special thanks (in no particular order), for the project completion goes to cc33, lionsandtigers, miskiped, and droptopman. If you want specs... all parts are genuine Rolex except for the retaining ring.
