Sounds like a defective clutch in the crown, which is odd considering its new, did you purchase it new in blister or loose? Gen crowns which are sold loose are usually defective, and only available for money as they have been replaced with new due to a faulty internal clutch.

Another thing to note regarding AP's with sec@12, nobody sells new movements anymore for these. A TD may, but expect them to charge a premium. My supplier stopped selling a few months back and he said the factories no longer make them, so what this means for the future of AP reps is anyone's guess, maybe a new breed sec@12 movement is currently in development?
Blimey, glad you are ok mate, I was working in Istanbul back in 1999 when they had their big earthquake, was in bad at the time, and it threw me out of bed.
I've personally not yet had one on my bench yet, but have one on its way for me to take a look at. Its still early stages from what I can tell, but early reports from owners are good thus far.
