  1. I've done it before with a butane lighter, but it's advisable to completely remove the crystal from the case, as if it heats too much and expands in the case while removing the cyclops, the compression from the expansion will crack the crystal (had this happen) All good fun though
  2. I was going to say Michael Young could probably fix it, but, I fear that the costs involved in restoring the dial, would not be recouped if the dial was intended to be re-sold I would suggest asking Michael if he could convert/refinish the dial as a 16800 dial and then make a project of it, but I would give up any plans to sell the dial with the hopes of getting a good price... I'm sure Michael can help you though
  3. Stunning pieces, they really capture the spirit of the era
  4. The guy was an abusive tool and should've been banned years ago. I was genuinely glad when I heard he'd died. Don't care if that makes me sound like an asshole, the guy was a vindictive troll.
  5. I should say it would be the DRSD my wife got me for my birthday... But if I'm totally honest, and get to only keep one watch, it would be this one... It's simply more versatile... (and was a gift from my mother...)
  6. I took this earlier today while sitting in a chair out the back of a charity shop while waiting for wifey to finish work...
  7. I'm wondering if it might have been the size of the time difference, as when I've travelled within Europe, I wasn't ever affected by it, and just accepted the new time, but that really threw me for a loop... The next time I travel, my plan is to leave the main hands on UK time, rotate the bezel as required, and try reading off that
  8. When I went to Tokyo for my honeymoon, I wore a GMT II... The main hands were set to local time, and the bezel was tracking the time in the UK. I know the GMT was created to resolve jet lag, and I don't know if anyone else has found this, but I found that being aware of the time in the other timezone, I couldn't adjust to the local time at all, and felt 'stuck' on UK time
  9. Nice Is it a dial from a gold or TT model with the hour markers switched out? Can't wait to see the wristie
  10. Damn, sorry to see how bad you got your pants pulled down on this deal As above, this dealer of yours isn't worth dealing with, as if they're prepared to rip you off for a watch, they are likely doing so with other stuff too...
  11. If it survived a shower, I'd suggest the faucet test, and then go from there (I put mine under the faucet before a shower )
  12. I just run them under a faucet. If it floods, I dry it and don't get it wet. If it doesn't, I just wear them without further thought. If it leaks, it'll leak. Chances are, it won't
  13. A bit out of my price-range at the moment, but maybe in the future
  14. The frustrating thing is I have a fairly decent digital camera, but I don't have regular access to a computer, just my iPad, so can't get the photos off the camera and onto the net I'll put some decent pics up when I can
  15. Not sure why the camera on my iPhone3 is worse than the camera on the original iPhone, but it just won't take a clear pic Anyhoo, my beaters... The 1665 my wife got me for my birthday, and my now summer watch, my customised GMT, which I am dubbing a blackberry: All-red GMT hand, and matte-varnished dial (re-varnished to fix scuffs in the varnish upon the original application). Not the best photo, but
  16. Of course it looks great, it's gen... Nice acquisition
  17. I'm no homophobe, but yeah, only a real fag (by that I mean an affected mincing squealer, not necessarily a homo) would wear a PoS watch like that :puke:
  18. I have to admit, I've never asked for a QC photo in all my time collecting, and only had one instance of getting the wrong thing, and two instances of receiving goods which were unchecked quality (the same forum trusted dealer who I have not used since) Looking forwards to seeing what you receive
  19. Have to admit, I think that looks better, as although the red triangle is a nice difference, when it's faded, it might as well be faded silver tingle
  20. I was not offended, I just found it confusing that someone would ask for opinions on something, and even when those opinions are critical, to still go ahead with the purchase... The fact that they are not a known dealer on this forum does not phase me, as I have always preferred to order off-site, and actively distrust some of the forum Trusted Dealers. However, the photo presented, is not what I would consider a QC photo (which should show a clearly identifiable watch in natural surroundings, not a promotional catalogue shot) If your dealer has always been good to you, however, then by all means, trust that relationship, and I'm sure you'll be happy with your purchase
  21. So you ask for folks opinion, and then disregard it, give an unnamed TD some kind of benefit of the doubt and decide to carry on regardless? If you don't care for people's advice on what is obviously a photoshopped promotional image not a QC photo -- which would show a watch on a workbench, possibly on a timing machine, possibly even with cellophane wraps still in place -- why bother asking people's opinions? It's your money, spend it how you wish
