  1. After too long, I've got it working again
  2. Thanks for the comments, gents, I quite agree that it's not really a Ferrari, because it was not made by said company, yet equally, despite the brandings, it's not really a replica or reproduction, because it is a reinterpretation of the original car... To make it more interesting, if the car didn't have the Ferrari badges, and was just labelled GWA, would people then feel it was an homage to Ferrari, or would they feel it was more a case of like with Alpha watches, a company who simply put their own logo on another company's designs? Of course, if anyone was to see it, they would likely just say "Did you see that Ferrari over there?" Not personally, but there're more photos on the linked article I thought you'd like it, bro
  3. Congratulations, dude, just take each day as it comes, and see how you do
  4. Just thought I'd put this topic here as it is essentially a discussion about copying, homage, replication and branding. I just saw links to this car online, and thought "WOW!!!!" I absolutely love how it retains the original styling, but with a modern twist, much like the Tudor Heritage being an update of the 7032 Monte Carlo, but, as it was built by GWA, is it really a Ferrari, or just a car with some Ferrari badges slapped on in the right places? What do y'all think of it, and the issue and how it fits in with out own hobby? http://www.worldcarfans.com/111091236500/one-off-ferrari-f-340-competizione-by-gullwing-america
  5. Thanks, bro It wasn't something I'd planned to do when I woke up today, but I was about to get some lunch, and just thought 'Why not...' so set everything up, and must say, I'm pretty pleased with the result Can't wait till there's more work done on the leg though, as I think it's going to blend in nicely with everything overall
  6. Nice pieces Must admit though, when I saw the title, I was hoping it was going to be a pros/cons discussion between the two watches
  7. No, I have an issue with guns too, namely Nanny State UK clamping down on them after the Dunblane shootings... Didn't do anything to prevent 'gun crime', it just penalized legitimate shooting enthusiasts
  8. Yeah, tan straps definitely seem to have the best look for the cali (IMHO), however, I'm thinking about asking the strap maker who will be doing the wrist-strap for my iPod project, if they could sew on a new strap which would match the other project Haven't quite decided yet
  9. Awesome post, and excellent points of view, I certainly agree with them If I like the look of a [rep] watch, I'll wear it, regardless of how accurate it actually is to the original
  10. Looking pretty slick, T, nice work indeed
  11. Sorry, but I don't really care if you find it civilized or not, I'm as entitled to my opinion as you are yours, and, going by the majority opinion, it would appear that most of the posters who have commented here feel the guy deserves raping. As for the rest of your assumptions on what I condone and am wishing for, that is all they are, assumptions... Do I think prison rape should be allowed? No. Am I surprised that dominance-based behavioral rapes occur in prison (and other institutions)? Again, no. Equally, I have little sympathy for people who do get raped in prison, because had they not done something worthy of being sentenced, they would not be in that situation for said rape to occur... If the judicial system was to get down to the 'eye for an eye' punishments outlined in the Bible, then rape would be the prescribed punishments for rapists...
  12. If you're having that much done, you clearly want the watch to 'look real', so I would strongly suggest reconsidering your decision about not wanting to age the watch. I'm not suggesting you need to beat the [censored] out of it, but none of those other mods are worth doing if it is still going to look like a 'brand new watch' which should be +30 years old Best of luck with the project though, really looking forward to seeing the results
  13. Nice I think I'm probably going to wind up with something similar, but on a tan or mid-brown strap
  14. I had thought I wasn't going to age the dial, but seeing stuff like that certainly makes me question that decision
  15. I've decided I'm definitely: - Keeping it clean, no artificial aging of dial or case. - 100% homage with no branding marks anywhere on it (for wearing to countries who are less than rep-friendly ) - Cali dial - 127 gold hands (will leave me with a spare second sweep hand, but also means larger hands for better visibility ) - New strap. Possibly tan, but more likely matching leather to my planned wrist-strap project Once the PPI clears, I'll be able to get to work
  16. Looks like it was worth every penny, M
  17. That is very tasty, I wish I had the spare cash to bid on it Ahh, that's interesting, maybe some of the photos I saw online were indeed of blued hands, which simply appeared black due to the lighting conditions of the photo Thanks for sharing
  18. Ahh, cool I'm considering a new tan strap as well for my build, as I'm not over keen on the rivets through this one's stock 'pilot-style' strap. Of course, I can't complain about the quality, and as an unexpected gift, I'm more than grateful, I'm just thinking that if I'm going to make it over, I might as well go the whole nine yards and change everything so it's 100% custom as I want it I'll have to look for that thread in the morning, it's getting a bit early/late here at the mo, but thanks for the reference, I'll see what I can find
  19. It took me a while to warm up to them initially, but I really love the Cali aesthetic The blue hands do look nice, I wouldn't ever take that away from the Classic Look, I'm just feeling the gold hands a little more for my own take on it [Edit to add] That pic has convinced me to keep the build 'clean', rather than any artificial aging PS Dial and hands from Helena?
  20. Thanks for the pic, seeing those examples, I think the gold definitely lends itself to the vintage look, and from my time with a 127, I remember that the gold hands were easily visible, so I think I'll go with that combination (not decided yet on if I might age the watch, or just keep it clean)
  21. Tasty and at .22 cal, still legal to be owned in the UK (if kept at a properly secure gun club )
