About two years ago, one of my friends asked for some advice about Panerai replicas. He liked the Luminor Regatta model, and was very happy when it arrived. Soon, his father and a colleague also wanted their 253s, and as the official "Watch nut", I sourced the watches and sold them with the normal cautions and maintenance advices applicable for mechanical timepieces and replicas. Here is the tale of the three Regattas.. The first watch lasted about a year. My friend was helping his girlfriend moving into a new apartment and the next morning he discovered that the crystal was gone! Likely knocked it against a door post during carrying some furniture. Luckily there does not seem to be any damage to dial and movement. The watch has been sitting in my watch closet for a year, while I without luck have traced a new crystal. The second watch was taken for a swim in the North Sea this summer.. Here is the result, some months later. Some part of the movement is stuck above the rotor.. I am actually amazed about the size of the debris which have entered the movement... On the dial side, there is a white dust under the crystal and on the dial (salt?). Well, while this watch is beyond repair at least I have a replacement crystal for my friends watch.. And the last watch? Its movement have stopped. The case has some scratches, but no visible water damage. It has taken some beatings. Guess a repair/service is beyond my capabilities. Time to do some tinkering when the weekend comes! These are actually very nice, big watches. Just take care...

Well... I have to admit I was never a fan of Seinfeldt. But, I have noticed that he was a well known Breitling fan at the time. One seller on Timezone even listed a Slate Grey Chronomat as "The Jerry Seinfeldt watch". http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=4741020&rid=0 Unfortunately, the pictures have been removed.

To be honest I cant understand the fuzz about the Mark XVI.. I am aware of the heritage and all that, and I even enjoy smaller watches ( like the DateJust, vintage Seamasters or even the Air-King). But this one does not "sing" to me.. Just too plain. Well, each to his own. Maybe I also will get sold eventually!

Great piece! The Day-Date is truly one of the classiest Rolex models.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Nice to see that this quartz-watch is appreciated in here. Used models do turn up regulary, the bottom seems to be around 700 USD. This early model is just posted for 795 USD on TZ Sales Corner. I paid 1000 USD for mine. A good deal I think, considering the paperwork and Pro-bracelet. Aerospace on TZ SC Thanks, b16a2! I remember your cool Sea Harrier version! It was you who learnt me the "Aerospace Member club test". Well... I forgot to mention that this is a very special "CHRGOD" model..

Great watch! The Speedy is truly a good looker on black leather as well as bracelet.
-
Thank you, HackR! The titan version with the gold accents is a true beauty. It even has the Co-pilot module! The Aerospace bracelet is an odd bird. It gives the watch a much dressier look. The Pro-bracelet looks thougher. I have had that version before. I tried the Aerospace-members club test; to hit 123456 on the chronograph. This was the closest I got! Hmm.. I see that they changed the border of the pearl when they introduced the "Chronometre" version.. All this minor details you learn to notice when you are a WIS...

Takk! It wears a little bit bigger than a Submariner. Being titanium and a very low case profile, you hardly notice that you wear it! Titanium feels much warmer than steel, so it is quite comfortable. (Quite different from my Fiddy.. )

Thanks! The searchable archives at www.watchtime.com is a treasure cave for information. Well written and with lots of technical details. I have found lots of information there about the Sinn U1-U2 line, Hanhart, space watches and Navitimer among others.

This package arrived from the "Land of Hope and Glory" some days ago.. It was eagerly awaited after three weeks in transit! ( The name has been erased on the box,) Lets open it.. Hmm.. another package inside! Looks strange, but well packed. Well, then we open that one. ] That looks better! A Breitling travelling case and a plastic bag with papers. Even Herbert, my cat, got interested at this stage. A nice set. Blue dial Aerospace Repetition Minutes, 2000 model. One of the few Chronometre-certified of this model, before the name changed to "Chronometre Aerospace". Guarantee card and Chronometre certificate. The travelling case is of an odd tall model. Have not seen this before. It is in nice condition for a 10 year old watch. The AR holds up good, even though it is staring to flake a bit in the corners. The titanium bracelet has many surface scratches, but no deep ones. Guess the hardness of titanium prevents deeper scratches. Wrist shot! The flash makes the dial look bluer than in real life. It is kind of dark sky blue. The "famous" Breitling caseback with conversion factors. Not only useful for pilots, but also for an european Petroleum Engineer in a US company, like me. The conversion between Imperial and US gallons, made me remember an Airplane accident which in fact was due to confusion of units during refueling.. All in all, I am a great fan of the Breitling Aerospace. This is in fact my third Aerospace (the sixt if you include its predecessors Navitimer Quartz, Pluton and Intruder models) One of the best buys at the used market, I think. It is a "true" aviators watch, where form and fuction goes nicely together. I actually like this version with the Italic lumed numbers better than the newest "Avantage" model.. It looks to flashy for a tool-watch. The Aerospace has been in the Breitling line for decades and is starting to become a true classic. There are no decent replicas of the Aerospace, another reason to buy a genuine!

Sinn + HKTAN + quick and dirty photos = orgasm
chrgod replied to fotoman's topic in General Discussion
- 1.. I think they are a good combination as they are. Have not really understood the "black watch" craze which is at the moment, but the black Sinns are cool. -
Great finish under the bonnet. Rose polished spacer ring, decorated rotor and regulator on the balance wheel. The finish on the bridges and steel screws makes it looks like an ETA.
-
A nice Navi. Interesting to see that this old model is still being improved! Strange about the date font and sunken date wheel? Is this an A7750?-powered version? Does the caseback still have the "Messers1477 109" spelling error..?
-
Yes they are cool, in a "different" way. My guess is that the year is manually changed, you switch out the numbers. It could actually be ool to make a limited run of 100 of these with "RWG" logo!

Nice!

I really like it. But hope they chop the price. Thinking it would be cool to have at the office....

I think only digital babes are most suitable for avatars!

"In Russia, watch wears you!" One serious piece you got there. I like these Soviet/Russian watches. They have special designs. The Caspian Sea Monster, the Ekranoplan, is a worthy name to a big watch. My Poljot Shturmaniske says hello!

Yes, I noticed the same things.. Guess that since Travolta is a Breitling Ambassador they had to use a Breitling in the movie? The chronograph looked like a Colt Chrono or an Aquaracer. There are quite a few close-ups of the white Colt in the movie ( typical for countdown plots!). I suppose they did not bother to screw the crown back in. A rather mediocre movie by the way.. Good action, but I missed a nice twist in the end.

Authentic Rolex DSSD: All the details you need and more...
chrgod replied to ThinkBachs's topic in The Rolex Area
Wow.. Impressive post. I have not gotten the SDDS-bug, but interesting nevertheless. Finally I learned what "Ringlock System" is. -
Great watch. I really like these vintage Seikos. Nice size, interesting mechanics and a brand with a heritage. By the way, the Seiko chronographs from early seventies are still a lot of cool watch for little money.
-
Tag Heuer Carrera for me. My favorite watch. Trying a little different wristshot this time.

A friend of mine had the same problem, the crystal shattered while he was moving some furniture around and smashed the watch against a door post.. I had no luck finding a new crystal, was sent the wrong one twice! But, another friend used his rep 253 while swimming , of course the watch broke. At least now I can make one good watch out of two broken..
