Haha, I'm just messing about. Watch will be done soon
-
This is gold!!! uh, I mean platinum. Never saw or thought about this. Can't wait to see outcome, mods should pin this thread.
-
You sir, are a gracious gentleman!!
-
Splendiferous, isn't it!
-
They've been threatening this for years, but it will happen.

This is my first purchase as I make my foray into serious watch collecting. I've dubbed it the KingFrog. Forget my gen Rollie's, Zenith, Hamilton's and Tissot... This baby is where it's at...
-
You've also convinced me to use my Hodinkee Horween Shell Cordovan Nato Strap on my 5513 when it's done.
-
Guys you may be wondering where the watch is... I just can't do it, I can't bring myself to build a fake watch. I don't want to be a fake person. I've decided to take the nobler route, and collect Casio's. Here's my first one in KingFrog Green
-
Honestly I have to agree. The 1570 in my Datejust has been sucking lately and finally went ka-boing... I am ambivalent at best about the 1520 going into my franken 5513. The ETA movements, particularly in chronometer grade I would put up against almost anything. That's why they are used in part as a base for so many high-end workhorse movements from other "manufactures." I would not hesitate to yank the 1520 in a few months and replace it with a solid workhorse 2824 chronometer grade movement if it doesn't perform to expectation.

It's coming soon! Don't worry
-
Very wise and good point

Beautiful! I'm using the same 5513 underline dial in my build that should be finished soon! If you're looking for a gen crown and tube I have both 703 for sale, $250 shipped. Really lovely watch!

Inflation, market demand and speculation
508-Fanatic replied to 508-Fanatic's topic in General Discussion
It's amazing - I am surprised by the value in the rep's to be honest given the absurd inflation in the prices. PS: Somebody buy the crap I'm selling in parts lol -
1955 Rolex GMT was $240. Inflation adjustment is $1 then = roughly $9 today... so the watch would cost $2160 USD. Now, adjust for increases in labor, technology and materials surely we cannot justify a nearly 4x increase without it largely being market driven demand. The same it would seem is happening with our reps, at a much quicker pace, no?
-
Dude, it's clearly a horrid fake - but you only spent $145 on a horrid fake. Lesson learned. Check first, buy after. Get your money back, you can't sell rep's on fleabay.

Can you help me to find an accurate Explorer 1 36mm rep
508-Fanatic replied to PrivateJoke's topic in The Rolex Area
I think they are using gen pics and no, not familiar and seems really shady... over priced too. -
I, for one, had it yanked. Some neophyte was about to drop $700+ on that garbage. The seller played dumb, saying he wasn't an expert, just getting rid of old things. When I tried to press him as to what, with the power of Google, would lead him to say it was 100% authentic he was gone...

That said the best you'll get is a 5227 or Nautilus... the complication rep's are pretty terrible across the board. Simpler the better
-
I put it in my Breville smart oven for like 20 minutes at 425 degrees. Came out not half bad, nice little aging/patina due to it. Tempted to try baking the insert, then repainting the back of the insert, but I might try other aging techniques as well including high-intensity UV lamp.

No he's here in the states

We got a local guy that makes tools out of "904L" and he says it's not that hard to buy, not that expensive or hard to work with. Just Rolex's amazing marketing and people's inability to use "google"

Hey all - here is the case - pictures from NeckyZips who did the engraving between lugs. I'll take more high-res ones of the case all around once I have it back and it's going together.
