Greeting to RWG. Today is my first day here.
Sogeha replied to Hnguyen's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Hello and welcome. I agree that there is more genuine knowledge on vintage Rolex and less opinionated BS than on gen forums. -
I mostly drink wine and claim it as part of my five a day. The morning after looks more like the work Tracey Emin than Vincent Van Goth.
-
Very nice. I did something very similar using an inaccurate sub replica and a Raffles dial.
-
Good god man, you are drinking more than me. Was that last night's party?

Franken PAM = Cool custom watch, but rep Rolli = Cheesy?
Sogeha replied to naturopath's topic in The Panerai Area
I need to get up to speed on who Pratt is and what he does. Wearing a Canal Street Rolex to make oneself look big is cheesy and desperate. In fact wearing any watch including high end gens to impress others is sad. I wear watches that make me smile. One day it might be gen, the next a rep and on another day it might be something pretty cheap like a Luch. -
I don't think it will really show much even on a leather strap. Hanging out on these forums one tends to become obsessive and detail focused. Most people won't notice your watch. Most watch guys don't know as much as the average on this forum and we tend to fixate on images several times larger than real. Truth is most of us aren't teenagers any more and at the kind of viewing distance I'm likely to get while it's on your arm, I'd struggle to tell what time it is. It's just that if you have a pile of raw cases and an engraving machine, why wouldn't you do 5508 on Monday, 6538 Tuesday and 6541 Wednesday. It really doesn't seem that hard to me.
-
If the factories rep it, I want a PVD version with "Stailess Steal" engraved on it, a display back and Quartz movement. Some things just need sending up.
-
It's a 6541 but has model number 6538 and 5508. You have got to wonder what they are thinking when they decide on the engravings. Would it be so hard to engrave a batch for each model with correct markings? Other than that enjoy your watch and welcome to the forum.

Some truths about the politcal left from a gay Brit
Sogeha replied to freddy333's topic in General Discussion
Yes. -
Yes me too. It's a classic example of a watch I don't like enough to pay the gen price for but do like enough to by the rep. Strangely I get as obsessive as everyone else here about accuracy on vintage builds, but I don't give a damn about the fact that this only bears a passing resemblance to the gen. Enjoy your watch.

Some truths about the politcal left from a gay Brit
Sogeha replied to freddy333's topic in General Discussion
Sadly very few things are black and white, the Boy Scouts being a case in point. It s a worldwide organisation almost universally accepted as a good thing, yet its founder was a peodiphile. We don't have guns in Europe, except we do. I live on the Irish border and there are plenty of illegal guns here still. There is also a lot of gun crime in my local town, which isn't even a village by American standards. We have a shooting roughly every month. Population 1400. Two days ago a close friend of mine in Poland. A frail lady about five feet tall and crippled. Also Buddhist, hippy, pacifist, was out shopping and sees two guys get out of a car and walk into a large shop. You see the cctv picture, these guys are well tooled. She reaches into the car and takes the keys out of the ignition and throws them into some bushes or long grass. She rips up a paving slab, walks into the shop and hits the biggest guy over the head with it. He's in a coma unlikely to wake up. She kicks the second guy in the balls, he runs and gets into the car, she breaks the window and bodily drags him out of the car, causing him multiple cuts and glass embedded in his face and hands. The cops arrive. The newspaper report says it was good for the terrorist that the cops arrived to save him. Then yesterday this just a few miles from my hometown. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-36565801 The simple truth is that making it difficult for law abiding citizens to own the types of firearm under discussion does not hinder those with criminal intent. What it does do is seriously reduce the amount of minors who accidentally kill themselves or others. However the number of children killed by foolhardy use of farm machinery, especially tractors in Ireland is sad. Nanny State can say you can't have a gun or a tractor or it can say you will be held accountable if by your foolishness or lack of responsible storage and use your gun falls into the hands of a minor. -

Just some random thoughts in no particular order. I have a lot of respect for the OP and his knowledge of fine watches. I also don't greatly disagree with any of the statements he has made in this thread. A very similar topic on a similar forum became an American verses European slagging match, which in the end achieves very little other than causing division in the forum membership. We are all here because of our love of watches and interest in replica watches. There are forums for all political views and both pro and anti gun forums. You can worship Mickey Mouse and have sex with a (consenting) donkey for all I care as long as you allow other people to have different beliefs. I have grown very fond of this forum and it's members during my time here. I don't think locking threads or banning subjects is in the spirit of this forum. I think we are quite proud of not flaming each other or having long threads of bitter and personal arguments. I would hate to see that happening, especially if it was over, something other than watches. -
My Audi is a Volkswagen Golf with aspirations, I've also got a Mercedes that was built by Porsche.
-
Never mind deleting pictures. Your watch appears to be running backwards.

Right from the horse's mouth... The ride is over
Sogeha replied to swdivad's topic in The Panerai Area
To some extent he is probably not far from the truth. I find him painful to watch, but being totally wrong is not one of his many faults. I think Richmonte Group probably has milked the limited editions dry. Probably not going to be shovelling up discarded Panarai in the streets, but maybe not so much hype and a drop in sales of them. -
Genuine I take it? It's a beauty.
-
Put a WTB on all the forums. I think there are probably a few in parts bins around the world.
-
Dbane you are a hard man to like. I aspire to your builds, but you always move the goal posts higher and higher. H Q Milton would have trouble matching that watch.
-
Nearly 7000 posts and no longer active, I'm a little saddened by that, but wish you well in your current interests.

I think PGC could be done well on the Cartel case, just not by me. I can weld stainless, so I can stick big lumps on for someone with talent to carve off. I think the crown is a little low on the Cartel case, so perhaps when I am not so busy with work I will put lots of metal on the case and pay someone to take the right bits off again. In the mean time I wish you would stop teasing with your dials and agree to make me one. Right now I'm raising a glass of Saint Emilion to your health. Á la votre mon ami!
-
That totally agrees with my experience. I recently bought a Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine from Toro, partly because it was only a hundred Dollars and partly because the genuine isn't too expensive secondhand. I thought I'd see what I thought before splurging on the gen. As it happens I find the dial fussy and sometimes difficult to read at a glance. Anyway a friend who likes watches, but isn't really knowledgable admired it. I took it off and passed it to him saying it was quite nice but just a cheap fake. He didn't believe me and even went over to a mutual friend who was with us to ask his opinion. To be fair we know the dial isn't much like the gen, but the watch is nicely finished, has a weight to it and does feel impressive. I think a lot depends on where you live and the kind of people you mix with. Last year I spent a lot of time in Hatton Gardens, London (watch and jewellery area). I think a fake would be spotted in seconds there.
-
So seems like we are pretty much the same. I have a Cartel 5513. I want PCG, but need to overcome my fear. I even bought a Soki sub for ten Dollars to practice on. I used t build industrial robots, done lots and lots of shaping stainless steel, just never a watch case.
-
Your dials are getting better and better. You will have to attack the crown guards to make them pointed.
-
If it is a genuine military and not a fake or a genuine 5513 that has been messed with, then it takes some balls to list at 99 Cents. I wouldn't think genuine military cases are easily found.
