Looking for vintage lumed 5500 Explorer dial (not Yuki)
Sogeha replied to Cayman35's topic in General Discussion
Maybe have a look at tonnywatches on Instagram or eBay and see if you like his. -
Query on noob V6s version of DSSD D-Blue HE valve
Sogeha replied to richard591's topic in The Rolex Area
I'm not trying to troll or make fun of a new member, but I wonder why anyone would want a working HEV in a rep. If it looks that part and doesn't leak it's good enough for me. If I am several hundred metres underwater, I'm in serious trouble regardless of how well my watch is coping. -
Is his son any better? Being newer to the business maybe he isn't as complacent. I am fast learning that nothing is every straight forward in this game.

Bamford Milsub (and Tempus Machina 809H) - Replica recipies?
Sogeha replied to hologramet's topic in The Rolex Area
Definatly interested. I would like to know more about the dials, maybe design drawings and pictures of previous custom work. As you said, the whole project revolves around getting the dial right. This is the 809h right? It would be cool to do a 216a as well. I may have a lead on a company to do the bezel. -
Hi from a new member from the Netherlands!
Sogeha replied to riesjart's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Hi and welcome. I tried RHN after following a link on google images but Dutch is beyond me. Good that you have been reading around the subject. Enjoy your time here. -
I'm reminded of the old joke about it taking all night to do what I used to do all night.

I hope not. I really want to see this idea come to fruition. -
Bamford Milsub (and Tempus Machina 809H) - Replica recipies?
Sogeha replied to hologramet's topic in The Rolex Area
I read on the TM site that they use genuine dials stripped and gold plated. That would account for the extra bling over regular gilt dials and would be well worth copying. I would be happy with high quality printing for the black if galvanising was not an option. it is very interesting about the possible source of TM dials. I had speculated it as a possibility, then dismissed it as a conspiracy theory of my own manufacture. -
Bamford Milsub (and Tempus Machina 809H) - Replica recipies?
Sogeha replied to hologramet's topic in The Rolex Area
Doing the dial properly is something I am very interested in. Printed gilt never looks right in my opinion. Rolex used exposed brass and a galvanising process. I know TM gold plate dials. I am guessing they use some kind of printing rather than galvanising, anyone know? If it is possible to get a dial printed to an high standard, then the gold plating, case mods and Yuki movement can be done. Meaning for a fraction of the original price we could have a watch all but indistinguishable from the real version. Anyway I would really like an 809H dial in a 216A case. -
It's not a fair comparison buddy. You already told us that the 6536 has had restorative work. Somehow I don't see you spending hours in the beauty saloon.

I was kind of okay with the lume not matching on my Black Bay rep, but for 20,000 I would expect better. The concept is quite cool and I agree it wouldn't be such a hard build. No way is the original worth the money when the beautiful Tempus Machina is only 5000 more. -
Long time lurker, recently made a purchase from KB
Sogeha replied to ks111's topic in Introduction/Rules/Support
Hello and welcome to the forum. Lurking for some time and reading is a great way to find out about this hobby, but I'm glad you intend to be an active member. I look forward to getting to know you. -
I can understand the attraction to that font. It does look elegant, but take pity on those of us using iPads and iPhones please.

Anyone have opinions on the JF 15450
Sogeha replied to mule play's topic in The Audemars Piguet Area
I would love some expert input on this too. I am slowly learning about AP watches and having fairly small wrists a 15450 would be ideal. Does anyone know if a genuine dial could be fitted? -
Hi Wouter, Welcome to our little corner of the net.

Just got it out of the safe, well shoe box in the bottom draw :-) If the case is proved can we rename high end builds "Dowlings" in his honour?

I've still got one of those. Now that is a collectors watch

The media is a problem because they are in the business of making money and more than happy to distort the truth and outright lie to do so. "Hey guys we are safer than we have ever been" does not sell papers. Study after study shows it to be the case. The media wants us to believe otherwise. Very recently we were made to feel the US Police were an endangered species. I in no way condone the murder of police officers. However the number of police officers killed in the USA is significantly less than it was in the 70's and 80's dispite an increase in the total number of officers. We have a long way to go before we live in peace, but things are not as cataclysmic as the media wants us to believe. As to politicians, well they and big corporations have a lot to answer for in the Middle East as elsewhere. I'm not pointing the finger at the USA. My own country had a large part in the cause of the Israeli Palestinian conflict by duplicity during and after the Second World War. The real truth is we all were involved, we wanted cheap oil and didn't much care how we got it. Destabilising an entire region hasn't proved to be too smart in the long run. The real tragedy is that we are all one species, supposedly the smartest. We all live on the same fragile rock. If we put a tenth of the effort into co-operating that we have always put into fighting, there would be nothing we couldn't achieve. -

I fully agree with the view that we should exterminate these murdering scumbags. I do have one point I feel very strongly about, we here on RWG are a diverse bunch of temperaments, race, religion and political viewpoint, yet we support each other like no forum I have ever known. I think it's pretty likely that some of our members are Muslim. I have said before, you can worship Mickey Mouse for all I care as long as you allow me to have a different view. I think I'm right in saying the first media use of the term Fundamentalist was in relation to the Wako massacre. I also believe it likely that many of my brothers here would either profess Christianity or have some affinity with it. I doubt the majority of Christians feel they have much in common with those fundamentalist. Similarly I personally know many Muslims who openly abhor and condemn ISIS and associated groups and see them as incompatable with Islam. One can argue theology all day, but either way we should be encouraging Muslims in that belief. If one really digs into world news, these murdering scum are killing far more Muslims than westerners. My real concern is that if we strongly identify ISIS with Islam, we firstly act as a huge recruitment drive for these scum by alienating decent Muslims, who contrary to the media are the majority. Also I believe we give these scum glorified status they do not deserve. I'm all for rooting them out at home and abroad and exterminating the vermin, but for their crimes not their religion or skin tone. -
Welcome.

That is great composition.

I feel inadequate. I have three badass Seiko divers watches on my bedside table and not one of them is a monster. So close and still I'm not cool.
-
I wondered about that. He claims the watches had increased in value, so the buyer wants his money back. He does so without hesitation because he is a good guy, then turns around and resells for an extra profit. Perhaps he did not have the cash. I don't imagine for one moment Mr Dowling is poor, but there is a world of difference between having a few million tied up in assets and have instant access to a large amount of cash. I suppose only time will tell.
-
I'm quite shocked, up until Dbane started this thread I would have had total confidence in Mr Dowling. I thought maybe buying from him was paying over the odds for his reputation and peace of mind, but never would I have thought his watches were not as discribed. I imagine I am not the only one who thought like that. Now I don't know. Perhaps one should not preempt the trial, but the submission looks damning. One thing is for sure I would rather buy a high end build from someone active on this forum than pay genuine prices to risk getting a franken from a "reputable dealer"
